It happenin

I'm just going to throw this out there. When it was leaked in 2017 that Hauck was going to be hired as the next Montana head football coach, I remember Kent Haslam came out in an interview saying that he had not talked to Bobby nor had extended a job offer to anyone. A few days later, the official announcement was made. It's pretty obvious that Kent and Bobby had been talking and they were likely just wrapping up final procedures before announcing.

Just because Shaun Rainey interviewed Kent and Kent said that he hasn't received an invitation, or that things are "uncertain" doesn't mean it's the end of the world. For all we know, Kent very well could be talking behind the scene with the MW and keeping it hush like he did with Bobby's hiring. If anything is happening, it wouldn't surprise me that Kent is keeping everything very close to the chest.
I mean what is Kent going to say? "Oh hell yeah we're begging to get into the Mountain West! Cant wait to ditch these losers in the Big Sky"

It serves zero benefit for him to talk about this at all in public right now. There's a 0% chance he hasn't been on the phone all week with other AD's discussing this. He's probably been subtly discussing this for a decade now behind the scenes. Just gonna have to wait it out and not fall for every smokescreen.

We will do nothing if it is decided there is a future in the FCS. Full stadium, strong revenue——why do anything?

The difference is winning all those playoff games in the FCS. Winning a meaningless bowl game (see the Greater Idaho Potato Bowl) verses winning all the games to get to the FCS Championship game and maybe winning that. That is exciting and more of an accomplishment. For a little school with limited money, which Montana is, that is an accomplishment with being excited about, and proud of.

Is there anything more fun and exciting than the playoffs in WaGriz??!!
Yes. G5 playoff games. Against teams people have actually heard of, and not Ualbany (whateverthefuckthatis)

We are not talking to the MWC until we are--We and The Shi##y Kitties are not joining the MWC until we are joining The MWC !!!

Discussions are taking place right now with the MWC, and we will only find out in the immediate future about these talks if they are successful when a press conference is held at UM and/or @ MSU informing us that we and the SK's are moving to the MWC--we both go or we both stay home--no way the BOR let's us go MWC without taking our figurative little ugly stepsister MSU !!!

If these talks are unsuccessful with the MWC, we probably only find out months to years later if at all.

I used to be opposed to moving up, but with the FCS continuing to shrink, moving to FBS now might increasingly become a necessity for both today and especially tomorrow !!!

Did they though? A couple weeks ago, all signs were pointing towards the 2 leagues maintaining their scheduling alliance, and then literally last week the PAC12 changed their mind and reversed course on it
I don’t think that was true. I know Oregon State was giving off some signals.

This team is not moving up. There are too many "Satisfied as we" types. The FCS has become Division 2 and G5's have become 1AA. You move forward or you fall behind. There is no "standing pat". I fully expect UM to not make the jump. The Board of Regents is never going to approve it. They are as backwards as the "Stay puts"

While I wish things would just stay the same, I know they won't. Hell, I miss the days of having Boise State and Nevada Reno visiting Missoula, but the world moves on. The new conference alignments are hovering up more and more of the money, leaving less scraps for FCS teams. By this time next year, what will be left of the FCS? Most of the teams worth a shit have moved up over the years. The Montana schools, Idaho, and to a lesser extent, the Dakota schools are it a tough spot. Small economic bases and tiny TV audiences all put a ceiling on athletic department funding as it is. I can't see any more payday games for visiting FBS teams. I think the BSC will shrink a lot over the next couple of years either due to teams moving up, or others having to deal with the financial reality they find themselves in.

Which of these home schedules would you prefer to see?

Idaho
BYU
Air Force
NDSU
Utah St
South Dakota St

Missouri St
Morehead St
Western Carolina
Weber St
NAU
UC Davis
Portland St
I'd much rather see the Idaho, BYU, Air Force, NDSU, UTAH State, South Dakota State, Montana any day of the week. It's not hard to be a whale in a mud puddle, and that's what NDSU, South Dakota State, and Montana are. It's harder to be a big fish in a pond where just about everyone is equal.

There has been talk of a G5 playoff and as the P4 continues to separate themselves, I think it will probably happen.

I think it is likely that the MWC will lose 1 or 2 more teams. Maybe Air Force goes to the Pac, or maybe the join the AAC to be in the same league as Army and Navy.

Personally, I think it is pretty likely that before this is done UM and MSU will be asked about their interest in the MWC. If they are interested in making the move I think they will probably be invited. UM, MSU and the Dakota State's would be a fun and fairly regional conference.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. Without their natural resources, Wyoming would be in a similar spot and may be at some point in the future. One university helps their position from a financial perspective. I have been opposed to moving up in the past. Two main reason. First, The economics and required revenue to support moving up. Second, the playoff system vs bowl games. I now believe it is the time for the U of M to move up. There will be a tiered playoff system at some point in time. The revenue continues to be the issue. Where does it come from? TV contracts aren’t going to be enough. Montana fans have been phenomenal about supporting the program. Big boosters as well. Yet, increased ticket prices likely won’t fly and attendance would drop. I am also concerned about passing any fees to students. Enrollment has been an issue. I don’t expect that issue to be alleviated in the foreseeable future. If anything, U of M and MSU will both experience pressure in the future with student enrollment.

There's simply too much money to be made to NOT implement a playoff. No one is going to watch a bowl game with 2 G5 teams -- much as they don't watch the fcs playoffs now. But they WOULD watch a playoff series with those teams.

Look at all the changes within the BSC which have occurred in the past twenty years. Griz domination through 2011 followed by irrelevance until the last few years. EWU and Weber were major players for many years, now phffft! Scats were in their proper place until recently. Idaho's return was kept in check by the Albatross around their neck, Petrino. Now, back as a major player.
The 'move up' talk was always there, just no opportunity/invitation. Now, the big boys are cannibalizing their weaker members, Big Ten and Big 12 have about twenty members each, PAC 2 is now the Six PAC, other conferences are threatened with extinction through shifting events.
The BSC is a flea on the tail of a big f'king dog. Rough ride ahead. IF the FBS adds current FCS members, the FCS playoff picture for the last few years will be their menu list. UM would be high on the menu. Facilities, and fan base, are in place. Griz are available. Patience.

Watch Air Force. Seems like the AAC will be calling soon, forcing the MWC to restock. There could be other defections from the MWC. In fact, I think the MWC has a lot of motivation to reload soon to head off more defections. If Air Force bolts, I bet the MWC makes a big move for at least NDSU, SDSU, and hopefully the Montana schools and Idaho.
