It happenin

Well IF they call, we'd best answer because there probably won't be another call coming. There's a G5 playoff looming, we've done everything we needed to do facilities-wise, the team is good, the stadium is packed...fresh off a NC game run...if not now, when?
This! Absolute travesty if we have the opportunity and don’t take advantage.

It's done. Nothing from UNLV, Nevada, SJSU, or Utah State. These are the 4 they're taking (at least this round). Now the wait begins. Who does the MWC backfill with?

Do they really want two schools 10 miles from each other, that bring the same market?
Same concept as taking USC plus UCLA on a much smaller scale. The community there is deeply invested in those two schools and their rivalry. So ya, that's my bet.

El Paso metro is less than a million people. LA metro is 12 million. literally NO ONE gives two shits about NMSU sports. in 2022 they ranked 124 out of 132 FBS schools (UNM wasn't much better, clocking in at 116) in football attendance. UTEP was 104th. An AVERAGE of 28% capacity for football games over the previous 5 years...So, not sure how "deeply invested" the community is in those two schools.

For what it's worth, both average less than HALF what Montana draws every weekend (which would rank 68th).

Seeing as you quoted population, perhaps you missed the part where I said "at a much smaller scale."

UTEP and NMSU are my bets. Don't let it work you up so much. You're welcome to make your own (equally meaningless) bets.

lol. So responding with facts is being "worked up"? Whatever dude. My money is on UNLV and SJSU. Two very large media markets.

If you think you would sell out WaGriz every week for a mediocre FBS team you are nuts. I can speak for my self no way would I keep mine to watch some .500 team play hoping someday to get to a toilet bowl. And currently can’t even out recruit MSU for players (just lost another yesterday and top 6 MT kids are already committed to MSU) try going head to head with those schools to stay competitive. Best facilities/home field in FCS and are not even close to being top recruiting school, hell not even best in the state. Look how Bobby did at UNLV and you will get the picture of what it would look like here.
Spittin' straight bullshit there, Ursus.

The immediate assumption that Um would be a "mediocre FBS team" is a non-starter.

Responding with facts I'd already addressed, sure. But I'm referencing who the MWC will backfill with. UNLV and SJSU are already in the MWC.

Quick reminder that we have to have an invite to move up.

I imagine NMSU and UTEP are the MWC's first moves. After that, likely see if they can peel away any Texas school. Then maybe a Cali-based FCS. After that, maaaaaaybe they'd look to other Big Sky schools, but none of us have the media markets to be very attractive. Really hard to see how (financially) it would be justifiable to add TWO schools from such a small market as Montana.
I wonder if there is a way to combine UM and MSU and view it as one single media market? When you look at Missoula and Bozeman a part it’s not moving the needle for any broadcast contract but if you’re able to justify 1 million and Montana as a whole that is a number they wouldn’t ignore.

And it wouldn’t be a false number. Walk into any sports bar in Montana this Saturday and the Cats and Griz will be on the tv.

Nothing would change around here. We’d sell out. Probably even more so with FBS teams coming in. If the G5 does a playoff then I’d be all for moving up. FCS is so stale and no one but us care.

Quit honestly, I think FCS football has a grim outlook. I fully expect the FBS money games to go away which will force most FCS schools to rethink football. The money just won't be there, and a large number will be forced to drop to a lower level with fewer scholarships, go non-scholarship, or just drop football.
