It happenin

Geographically and program readiness speaking I'd agree with UM, MSU, SD State, and NDSU.

I think it'll all come down to TV market. And are there other teams that the MW could lure away (let's not kid ourselves that geography matters anymore) from another FBS conference before looking to the FCS. The Pac-12 will be looking too.

If I'm not mistaken the Pac-12 is loaded with quite the war chest of cash. They could probably buy out any contracts and still have plenty of cash to throw around.

UM, MSU, SD State, and NDSU need to make the jump up to replace the 4 leaving for the new PAC conference.
They would probably add NMSU, UTEP and both us and MSU. Also Sac State and Idaho would probably be options before the Dakota States due to geography, markets etc.

Quick reminder that we have to have an invite to move up.

I imagine NMSU and UTEP are the MWC's first moves. After that, likely see if they can peel away any Texas school. Then maybe a Cali-based FCS. After that, maaaaaaybe they'd look to other Big Sky schools, but none of us have the media markets to be very attractive. Really hard to see how (financially) it would be justifiable to add TWO schools from such a small market as Montana.

I understand the media market issue but someone needs to explain to me how Wyoming is FBS with way fewer people than Montana.

Because they're about an hour away from the northern end of a growing multi-million person metro area, and even so, they're still one of the least "valuable" MWC teams.

I’d imagine it’s also call “Oil.” That’s just a W.A.G. on my part, no real info to base that comment on other than having driven through that state and smelling/seeing all the oil pumps.

The only reason the Big Sky gets two games a year aired on an ESPN network is because of the Montana schools, which tells me Montana and Montana State must have a large-enough market for ESPN to take the bait. Something tells me that FS1 (Fox Sports/Mountain West broadcast agreement) wouldn't be upset with airing Montanan/Montana State games.

Realistically, I don’t see UM going anywhere, the feasibility a few years ago brought a lot of clarity. The UM would need an extra 10-20 million a year, if I recall correctly from memory, which is suspect at best. Unless there’s a drastic increase in student fees, like most other schools do, and the BOR allows for it along with the state allocating more $$ to the University System, which I also don’t see happening… unless they add another 10% onto the ever growing pothead business in MT, I don’t see where the extra revenue comes from. The ticket prices are already outrageous, so they’re pretty much at the top end of that hill. So, TV revenue, not going to be enough year over year… So where does the extra $ REALISTICALLY come from?

There are other schools that make more financial sense. I don't see the Montana schools having a chance unless the MWC gets down to like 4-6 schools, and I doubt that many more are getting invited to go elsewhere.

Ticket prices are outrageous....FOR A BIG SKY SCHOOL. They don't even touch what some G5 and P4 schools charge. I got 2 NEZ tx w/seat backs for $550 last year. FIVE YEARS AGO I paid $2200 for 2 season tickets at Texas Tech games.

Well IF they call, we'd best answer because there probably won't be another call coming. There's a G5 playoff looming, we've done everything we needed to do facilities-wise, the team is good, the stadium is packed...fresh off a NC game run...if not now, when?

If you think you would sell out WaGriz every week for a mediocre FBS team you are nuts. I can speak for my self no way would I keep mine to watch some .500 team play hoping someday to get to a toilet bowl. And currently can’t even out recruit MSU for players (just lost another yesterday and top 6 MT kids are already committed to MSU) try going head to head with those schools to stay competitive. Best facilities/home field in FCS and are not even close to being top recruiting school, hell not even best in the state. Look how Bobby did at UNLV and you will get the picture of what it would look like here.
