I'm actually surprised Herder has us at #3. I think a lot of it has to do with the run last season, but I thought he'd be hesitant of the QB situation. I personally think we're in good shape at QB. Go Griz!

I think the Griz would have been at #2 if the QB wasn't a question mark going into the season ( As a Cats fan I need to make sure I point out that I do feel that the Griz have very good options at QB, and I don't see that as an issue.) I can see arguments for UM being #2, as you beat the team that is #2. Sitting at #3 with the schedule you have sets you up perfectly for a Top 2 seed if Cat/Griz goes the way last years did. One of the 2 teams ahead of you will lose to the other, and as long as you don't have an NAU game (seems like most FCS teams have one every year) you should be sitting pretty going into the rivalry game.

Yeah, well said. I think the defense will pick up where they left off, but a lot of losses there as well. Luckily some depth, speed, and new transfers coming in. Sac St looks strong this year as well.

I honestly believe the Brawl could be between two undefeated teams.

Western Carolina game shaping up to be quite a show!
I agree. Picked 3d in SoCon. QB is preseason offensive player of year. 4 first team preseason all-conference and 10 total. 40 returning lettermen. They lost to Furman last season, but Furman won the stat battle. WC threw 2 picks

2024 Preseason Southern Conference Coaches Poll

Team (1st-place votes) Total

1. Chattanooga (5) 61

2. Furman (3) 56

3. Western Carolina (1) 49

Could easily be the best home game of the year!

I am surprised Herter picked Montana at #3.Pretty high pick but then again we are playing weak opponents overall so that may be a factor.

Griz could have been 2 or 3. No surprise at all. UM isn't playing weak opponents.
Gris have a fair non-conference schedule but they have the easiest conference schedule based on pre-season rankings. The only games that I see gris struggling with are WCU, EW, and MSU. Weber could give them a run but in wagriz will be tough and UND lost way too many guys to be very good.

Putting MSU ahead of NDSU is pretty crazy considering that NDSU won three more games than the cats last year, and also won the head-to-head.
