Why transfers chose Montana

Rental QBs is a very recent occurrence for all college teams. Hauck's inability to recruit QBs goes back many years. So, since his latest rental QB is currently third on the depth chart, and his rental QB from last season has already left the building, and his other rental QB fell on his hooter in his last three playoff games, and then bolted for greener pastures, should we then say that Hauck is successful in using the portal to find a suitable QB? Just wondering.
I would take a Dalton Sneed every year. I would take a Craig Ochs every year. Who else Disney? Lucas Johnson healthy..hell yes. There have been QBs that started w/ Griz and others that have transferred. How do you know Fife is 3rd on depth chart? And if he is doesn’t that say something that a guy that had just turned down Minnesota and won some big games at Fresno St is third string? Shit the Griz coaches must have done a great job developing these young guys. Just take a seat there sweetie.

The top 10 teams from this poll all had one thing in common, all of them either had a multi year starter or somebody who signed with their current team right out of high school..

You are using "multi-year" to carry a lot of weight there. Sneed and Humphrey came for two years. McDowell would have been a "multi-year transfer starter." Fife came in with two years. Vidlak didn't work out, but he came with a ton of eligibility. The same as many of those schools above.

We also have three guys we recruited straight out of high school, with two of them competing for the starting job with a multi-year transfer. Welcome to the new era.

It is pretty normal now.

Hauck didn't recruit Ochs or Disney, Glenn did. There were no QB rentals back then. QBs moved-down to avoid sitting for a year while transferring between FBS schools.

I have a feeling that you love being called sweetie, sweetie

Poffenbarger did not sign with Albany out of high school. He went to Old Dominion first, then Albany, and then he transferred to Miami.

Gronowski and Miller stayed for the chance to win another national title. If they had been playing for lesser teams they would have hot-footed it out the door. Money combined with the chance to showcase one's talents at the FBS level is pretty irresistible. This is the new era of college football. Might as well get used to it.

Great information. Gee, both NDSU and SDSU ALSO had QBs recruited out of high school who were multi-year starters. And we use rentals here at UM. I wonder if there is any correlation when discussing winning at a consistently high level, and recruiting QBs? Inquiring minds wanna know.

Nice try. The "new era" only started two years ago. Hauck has never been able to recruit good QBs in his coaching history. There is that.

Now what what? None of that changes the point: COUNTLESS teams (and very, very good teams) utilize the portal to their advantage to better their team. Bobby's no different. Turdandwrong tries to make it like Bobby's an outlier when he's most obviously not.

Couldn't care less. It's why you have more than one guy in the QB room. He's found some VERY good QB's, and he's found some not so good QB's. Just like every other team using the portal (or out of HS). If it were a perfect science, YOU could do it. But alas its not, so you're relegated to the sidelines, pissing and moaning.

Nice try. The "new era" only started two years ago.
Kyler Murray - Rental
Baker Mayfield - Rental
Spencer Rattler - Rental
Cam Ward - Rental
Joe Burrow - Rental
Bo Nix - Rental
Caleb Williams - Rental
Jaylen Daniels - Rental
Michael Penix - Rental
Will Levix - Rental

Man....the list goes on and on and on...and it started long before 2 years ago. You should just put down the fucking shovel.

Yep, Everyone has the resources to recruit 5 stars. And btw Penix was a transfer as well after getting 4 years at Indiana. He was a 6th year senior when Washington made their run.

Of course having a chance to win a national championship plays into it..gronowski said that.

He also said loyaty to the sdsu, Brookings, his coaches, teammates were just as big of reasons, he also said multiple teams showed interest, and he was offered big time money to move up. Another of the factors was he thought long term staying at sdsu gave him just as good of chance to go to the n.f.l. as would have been playing fbs level football.

He sounds like a class kid.

I don't disagree with the majority of that. My point is simply that QBs like Miller and Gronowski are few and far between in the FCS and if they aren't playing for a top team then they probably aren't going to stick around very long because they will undoubtedly have opportunities at the next level. Which proves that once you've got them, it's hard to keep them. We saw Bobby recruit some phenomenal kickers who didn't stay for various reasons, one of which was Buschini who transferred to Nebraska. So the argument that Bobby isn't doing it right because he hasn't recruited high school QBs who have stuck around all four or five years is completely outdated at this point. Getting the best guy you can get at the moment and keeping him as long as you possibly can is the new rule, however you make that happen.

As well, the portal has made recruiting quality high school QBs even more challenging. Players no longer have to worry about getting stuck at a school because they are buried in the depth chart. So a player that would normally be FCS has the freedom to walk on at an FBS school and kick the tires as it were, and then transfer if it doesn't work out. But now they can transfer FBS to FBS, even within conferences. And if the second school doesn't work out? Just transfer again. The only real incentive to transfer down is to get playing time. Not having to sit a year anymore changed things.

The staff has done an excellent job in the portal lately and I don't think anyone can argue with that.

So You think mark gronowski from sdsu and cam Miller from ndsu were 5 star recruits high school when the signed to play at their schools?

Ndsu has had Carson Wentz, trey lance and Easton stick all drafted in the nfl, not one was a 5 star recruit..how do you think ndsu got them to the n.f.l., by luck?

Too funny. Penix played multiple years elsewhere and then transferred. The main point of discussion is transfer qb’s not 2 year starters.

Lance was only a one-year starter. On pace to be biggest qb bust in nfl history.
