Vim's 2018 Montana High School Football Recruiting List

Nice to see Corbin Walker on the list. He lit up the MSU camp and has set what may be the Butte High record in squat weight at 595. Nathaniel Ferguson is listed as FB/TE /P in your top 30. Actually he plays WR/TE/P/K and will add LB to that this year. He also lit up the MSU team camp as did Bo Mortinson (RB), although Ted Dawson couldn't tell them appart in his news cast... Ferguson got some attention at the July Griz Camp as well. Btw, who was the "Thing" at the July camp? Had to be 6-8 350. It was an impressive bunch of linemen there I thought.

"Thing?" Having topped out @ 6'8" before the ravages of old age & gravity took effect, I want to remind you that words hurt. FYI, "soft" isn't too far behind. Bastards.

Assuming its Quick.

Quick didn't have the summer many expected. But I still like him and still think he's a top 10 talent. Projects to the interior of the offensive line or defensive tackle.

Agree, Quick didn't have the summer of a top10 recruit. At the beginning of the summer I had in at 11-13 range in the state but I personally didn't see much improvement. I still think he is a top 30 recruit, and a top 10 offensive lineman. I'm sure they recruited him at center, he isn't quite big enough to play gaurd and surely not tackle in the BSC. So we will have to see how he does his senior year at center. Congratulation to Conor!

Griz owning the state in recruiting so far, despite the kitties marketing slogan suggesting otherwise, with commits from 5 of the top 7 players in the state. The hopeful addition of Mr Turner would make it 6 of 7. Congrats to the staff and all of these young men, and Go Griz!

Good get for the griz. Pepe is the definition of an Athlete. Doesn't just play multiple positions, plays them very well.

'Scat Spin: It's a down year in the state....

Got some free time today and decided to watch some film. So now that I have my top 50 done and that will be posted before the first games, I thought I would watch some film on kids that are outside of the top 50. I have a number of kids already, but please feel free to throw some names out there that you think should be receiving some recognition!

Good thing that updated list steered clear of any cat bias. None whatsoever.

Has a list ever had cat bias? Give examples.

I went back and compared HR's updated season list to his previous list and there actually wasn't as much movement as I initially thought. To be honest I had Vim's list more in in mind when I made that comment, as opposed to HR's list. Vim, if your updated list resembles HR's updated list then I would say there would be some head-scratching moves that tend to favor cat commits - HR's not as much. On HR's list the two biggest movers are cat commits now in the top 10 (Estes and Kleinhans), while Griz commit Graves rose slightly and Griz commit Pepe nearly dropped out of the top 10. I've watched very few of these guys play so I am not in a position to judge them one way or another, other than based on the movement of guys between versions of the list.

That said, I wish all of the best for everyone on the list regardless of the whether they go to the Griz, cats or elsewhere. I love seeing the improvement of MT football across the board as these lists get deeper with talent every year. Thanks again to HR and Vim for the time and effort it takes tracking players and putting these lists together. :thumb:

And Go Griz!!

a question for h.r., vim or anyone in the know......i noticed that pepe is listed as an athlete recruit, after watching him fail to make a play on sulser on the first play of the second half (either poor angle or lack of speed) either way he looked very ordinary.....i really like him and wonder if his natural position might be at linebacker on the defensive side of the ball....he would be plenty fast there, but can he bulk up with the weight ? our current receivers are much quicker than him, at least on tape....can someone comment on what position he will play for the griz....

Keep in mind, many kids on the Griz roster and on a Big Sky roster will fail to make a play on Sulser on more than one occasion. Jackson can develop at safety, linebacker, wide receiver, or running back.

Yeah, I think Sulser might just be that talented

My feeling on Pepe from what I've read on Skyline, Missoulian and his twitter activity is that he's more of a Cat fan but they never offered which kind of was disappointing for him. I just kind of wonder if MSU does come with a offer if he'd flip or not.

Pepe is a very good football player, but Sulser is just that good. And while there was movement from recent commits in my list, I try to stay as unbiased as possible. I also had a recruit who committed to the cats who was in the top 10 drop out. I don't care what school these kids go to, I just rank them as I see accordingly. And I wish the best of luck to all of them wherever they continue to play football.
