Time to wax philosophically about this season. Going undefeated to the National Championship is the goal of most teams and their coaching staffs. Soooo many uncontrolable variables make that a challenge, providing posters to this board plenty of things to criticize/praise.

In an effort to quantify our beloved Griz' efforts this year, use the numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5 to evaluate just a few of the criteria that contributed to another play-off season. Add any other criteria you'd like to grade.

Number 1 is "needs improvement", number 5 is " Good to perfect" Simply list the question # and your grade... #1..4....#2...3....#3...4 etc.etc.

I agree with nearly all of Badland's grades - except the following:

#2 - Offensive Execution - he voted 3, I would vote 2. Minor, I know...but just too inconsistent this year.

#6 - Positive Offensive Adjustments - he voted 4, I would vote 3-. Took too long to adjust inside receiver scheme to mitigate o-line play. Peak and valley gaps all season it seemed.

#18 - Not sure how to grade impact of injuries...Gus going down certainly limited his reps...did not seem to hurt in the short-run, but perhaps hurt us in the long run (NDSU).

I know it's been debated ad nauseam...and still is, but I think the D grades very high for the season.

Overall Grades:
- Offense - 3
- Defense - 4
- Special Teams - 3-
- Coaching - 3+
- Optimistic for next year - 5

Stitt just wants the ball back wherever it may be, eliminating the risk for muffs or fumbles. The only place on offense that I didnt really like is at O Line...those dudes have to get better...HAVE TOOOOO!

What type of logic wants to eliminate muffs......I know that most posters will not be truthful about how often they see a muff....I would say daily.....

NDSU certainly took advantage of the upside of the "risk" with its 100 yard return. And for any risk, there is usually an upside to taking it. In that case, 7 points. Any strategy has to have some kind of SWOT analysis, and Stitt seems like the kind of guy who does something approximating that. And of course, that's why SWOT analyses tend to be highly subjective. I was interested in the "4th Q strategy" of running up a lot of plays. The "explanation" -- tiring out the other team -- was "interesting," although that was my first thought -- there's got to be "risk" there, in terms of your own offense getting tired, in terms of number of times the ball is handled increasing the risk of fumbles and interceptions, and in terms of increased risk of miscommunications.

Saturdays' game was Stitt's "4th Q strategy" on full display. Each play averaged about 17 seconds, faster than the 19:24 second pace played against NDSU the first time around. But, the natural result of four turnouvers made the number of plays only 65, compared to 92 the first time around. But, Stitt had clearly designed the strategy to be another 92 play game. Is the speed-up in the pace of the play responsible for the miscommunications, overthrows and interceptions? Is that the inherent risk? Probably not at the magnitude seen Saturday, but there has to be an assessment of what the risk is, all things being equal, and it would be interesting to see how Stitt assigns that risk. Stitt attempted the same pace at Cal Poly game (a 16 second play average on 92 plays) with similar results and the ISU game (99 plays, 18 seconds) and even with a different quarterback got somewhat the same results including interceptions and fumbles.

I didn't say I agreed with the logic, I love big special teams plays...they generally have more of an impact on games than anything....I was just assuming thats his reasoning.
