This. It's really not that difficult to be respectful.

That said, if you are the type of person that gets wildly upset at every little comment that doesn't fit neatly into the narrative of your world view (not directed at you GGN, as I see you as the antithesis of this and it's great having you on the board), you are doing little to further this or any conversation. Perfect points. It bothers me to read Sunday morning armchair quarterbacks continually criticize the performances of one particular player--especially if they have no idea what the play call was and what the rest of the the team did to cause a breakdown on a specific play; i.e., Did a receiver quit the route or run the wrong route? Did the running back go the wrong way? Did a lineman completely blow the designed block? What happens to an offense that has a penalty inside the 20?

To a certain extent, I even get upset in the stands listening to "fans" complain about the coaching when they have no idea how badly their team is physically inferior to who they're playing. I even get upset and quit going to games when I listen to the armchair quarterbacks I'm sitting around talk about their glory days, be it high school or some nondescript college experience and they somehow twist the performance of certain players by marginalizing or minimizing the potential of the kids presently playing. In my eyes, every kid the coaches put on the field or court has the potential to become All-Pro at the next level in the event they decide to put in the requisite work to get there. It doesn't just "happen" to those who are legends in any given sport and that's why I'm still on the kids side.

I hope that the people who comb through every post on football message boards looking to support the misconception that football fans are aggressive, unintelligent contributors to society's problems are reading every one of your responses (with the one racist exception) on this thread. I believed in the past that there were mostly good people here who were often drowned out by the loud, overbearing voices of a couple of troubled men (#band). Now I know it's true.

And, I certainly wouldn't want to discuss football or anything else in an environment where people were on eggshells, hoping not to offend the oversensitive people in the room. It's nice to be in a room where the difference between being assertive and aggressive; between healthy debate and bullying or taunting and harassing are widely understood.

Daughters learn from their Daddy’s how they should be treated by men and sons learn from their daddy’s how they should treat women. And they are always watching.
My wife and my father did not get along for many years after we were first married, however my wife was always very fond of one thing, my dad taught his sons how to treat women. It came to be the thing that turned there relationship. In the end, before he died, I’m not sure my dad wouldn’t have taken her over me...actually, given the choice I’m almost 100% positive he would have.
