Wyo is afraid, very afraid

FYI- There are only 6 four year state schools in Montana not 8.
There are nine if you include Rocky and Carroll which are private schools. Seven public institutions, I believe.

Edit: I stand corrected GF is private as well. So ya six Public institutions.

Havgrizfan......I have wanted us to schedule Wyoming for years as I have been of the opinion that we can now be competitive unlike the 50s and 60s. Given the teams they play compared to such teams as Ft. Lewis, Western State and some of the Big Sky teams like Northern Colorado, not to mention their record against us, then, yes, they are light years ahead of us. Until we can beat them on a regular basis, they are light years ahead of us. I suspect that Jim O'Day should be given the credit for scheduling Washington and Wyoming. When he got away from Dennison who only wanted to schedule teams like Ft. Lewis, Western State because he knew we would win and fill the stadium, Jim was able to begin to develop a schedule against regional FBS teams.

As a Wyoming native, I can tell you they aren't afraid of Montana. Further, they are light years ahead of UM in football and have been for many years. At least, they have the courage to compete at the FBS level. :thumb:

I challenge you to name three ways how Wyoming is "light years ahead of UM in football." Oh, & the fact that they play FBS football doesn't count.

Please. Entertain us.

Every single one of Wyoming's athletic facilities is better than UMs, every single academic center is better, and unlike UM, Wyoming turns out engineers, not Burger King managers. Wyoming actually puts money into athletics and academics, unlike Montana who cuts budgets every where they can because the state of Montana thinks it's a good idea to fund 8 four year universities in a state with a million in population. Wyoming football isn't great right now, but go back and look at the history of Wyoming football.. while Montana was a basketball school with a really bad football program, Wyoming was a football program playing in the Sugar Bowl. It's really easy to look at the last 10 years and say Wyoming football is terrible, that also makes you a dumbass incapable of looking at anything else.

I'm excited for this game, I think it'll be a great game.. and I think UM should be competing in the MW as they're very similar schools athletically and academically to other MW institutions. Actually had a great debate on Twitter last night w/ one of UWs beat writers and the former host of the Mtn West Sports Report. Too bad UM and MSU can't get funding to move.

Yes, and when they played in the Sugar Bowl in the early 60's where was the star QB from?
Right, Troy Montana.......Gale Weidner! :)

Washington Grizzly has a much better atmosphere than War Memorial and has more butts in the seats and is much louder. It is too bad that Montana didn't have just one University like Wyoming does. Montana would have a 40,000 student University and be in the PAC12. Splitting resources between 2 universities that are as large or larger the WYO plus four smaller schools does hurt. Missoula and Bozeman are much nicer towns and areas them Laramie. Not many sane people would chose Laramie over Missoula or Bozo. If it wasn't for Colorado, u of Wyo would only have 6 or 8 thousand students. Wyoming does invest alot of that oil money into the U. They do have better facilities for the most part. They get over 2 billion dollars from State Severance Tax and their Share of Federal royalties. Although Montana has the largest coal reserves in the world, they have chosen not to produce much coal. Montana has seen the enviromental disaster that is Butte and tries to mitigate the damage at the cost of-dollars to the State education system. Wyoming doesn't care, they want the dollars. One fact remains, despite less money, the UM has turned many more Rhodes Scholars then Wyoming. Many academic aspects of UM are superior.

Wyoming is Dick Cheney......Montana is Mike Mansfield. One of those guys sold his soul for a barrel of oil?

:thumb: The economic, social and environmental philosophies of the 2 states interestingly reflect this reality.

There's a lot of time between now and then. Two recruiting classes, and the unknown, unthinkable( this years Griz problems). To think Wyoming is quaking in their boots at the prospect of the Griz coming to town two years from now, is ridiculous.

Wyoming is a 2.5 point underdog against the Idaho Vandals this weekend. The Wyo fans claiming they have loads of young talent and that Christiensan is doing a great job building the program is equally ridiculous. :coffee:

About now Growler usually chimes in. Who shot him?

I don't give a s--t if we play the Cow Pokes ......or not.

Afraid? Come on. Make up afraid stuff etc.

Both teams appear to have a lot of young talent that are getting a lot of experience this year. In 2 years both teams will be better. They have 2 big advantages in scholarship numbers and home field advantage (high elevation), but I like our chances. This game is long over due in my opinion.

Must have hit a nerve mr. Moderator!! That statement sounds like a Cat fan... Wyoming is a good school, the smack has now started 2 years earlier!!

He does have a point though - tough market for art and english majors wondering 'what now?' while engineers are pretty well set out of school

Hey guys, there is a business program, law school, pharmacy school, social work program, chemistry program, psychology program....etc.... you just decided to ignore the fact that we have numerous phd programs at this university. I could go on if you want me to.........

we produce "burger king managers"...... thats an absolute joke. I have a friend working for a marketing firm in downtown seattle, and his starting salary was 120k. He graduated with his masters in marketing from UM, with some fancy title at the end of the degree. I have another friend who is a pharmacist, just recently graduated from UM, and his starting salary was 90k.....I have another friend who is currently in the physics program, and when he graduates, he will probably be making 6 figures as well....Mr. Mod, that was a pretty ignorant statement regarding the integrity of our academic institutions at the UM......it's sad that you think of us UM grads in such a way.

No shit. It's only a liberal arts school  Check the job availablility of a pharmacy graduate.I would bet there are way more unemployed engineers than pharmacists.
