As a Wyoming native, I can tell you they aren't afraid of Montana. Further, they are light years ahead of UM in football and have been for many years. At least, they have the courage to compete at the FBS level. :thumb:

That makes absolutely zero sense! How do you lose to Cal Poly, a team Montana consistently beats, and claim to be lightyears ahead?

It's hard to decide which program is the bigger joke; Idaho, or Wyoming!!! Shoot, we even put more butts in seats than that dumpster of a program, not to mention out-recruiting it...It must be hard to recruit to the hell-hole in the middle of nowhere that is Laramie though

The game makes perfect sense. We are neighbors. There is fan interest. They've owned us and believe they always will. Montana is longggggggggggggg overdue to begin to change this. I'm sure our 2014 Grizzlies will be ready to start a new trend.

One poster on their site asked "Why don't we play Northern Colorado?". Well, that should be about as close to scheduling an automatic win as is possible. However, to the Cowboys and their fans it would be like the Griz scheduling a Division III opponent.

Even though Laramie is far from anywhere, I'd suspect we could get a good slice of Griz Nation into the seats. While No. Colorado may bring 100 fans to the game, I'll bet Montana will bring 1,000 or more. Let's send a sea of maroon into War Memorial Stadium, maul 'em, and leave all their fans asking "Why don't we play Northern Colorado?".

I challenge you to name three ways how Wyoming is "light years ahead of UM in football." Oh, & the fact that they play FBS football doesn't count.

Please. Entertain us.

This is the attitude that the rest of the Big Sky Conference has towards Griz football.

I'm not attempting to start a battle or be a d***. Those of you who've seen me post here over the years know that I respect your program. Just trying to point out how BCS schools automatically dismissing the Griz even having a chance stirs your ire just like so many egrizzers automatically dismissing the mere thought of another Big Sky team beating them in Missoula stirs their ire. The shoe's on the other foot in this case.

I'll go on record that I hope the Griz beat the Cowboys in Laramie.

Every single one of Wyoming's athletic facilities is better than UMs, every single academic center is better, and unlike UM, Wyoming turns out engineers, not Burger King managers. Wyoming actually puts money into athletics and academics, unlike Montana who cuts budgets every where they can because the state of Montana thinks it's a good idea to fund 8 four year universities in a state with a million in population. Wyoming football isn't great right now, but go back and look at the history of Wyoming football.. while Montana was a basketball school with a really bad football program, Wyoming was a football program playing in the Sugar Bowl. It's really easy to look at the last 10 years and say Wyoming football is terrible, that also makes you a dumbass incapable of looking at anything else.

I'm excited for this game, I think it'll be a great game.. and I think UM should be competing in the MW as they're very similar schools athletically and academically to other MW institutions. Actually had a great debate on Twitter last night w/ one of UWs beat writers and the former host of the Mtn West Sports Report. Too bad UM and MSU can't get funding to move.

Well I don't really want to enter this pissing match, but I would say that there is no way the Pokes are "light years" ahead of UM when it comes to football. Maybe in the '60s and '70s, but certainly not since 2000 or so. Their numerous close calls with FCS teams are a good indicator that we're more than capable of competing in 2014.

Grizmusician....you must be a youngster as you certainly aren't informed about Wyoming football. If you had sat in the stands in Billings like I did and watched Wyoming run over Montana, then you would understand. Further, please closely read the Titleist post for additional information.

I didn't throw out the light years comment, as I don't think it's entirely true.. Alabama is light years ahead. Wyoming's athletic budget is double UMs, I believe. But again, you're using a snapshot in time.. not since 2000 is 1/11th of Wyoming football history. College athletics is more than success on the field, athletic facilities at UW are some of the best in the MW. A renovated War Memorial Stadium, currently renovating the AA, just broke ground on an indoor golf facility, they have state of the art locker room/weight rooms, indoor practice facility, plus a giant academic center. That is light years ahead of UM.. but their athletic operating budget is still lagging behind players like Boise and others. When TCU was in the conference the disparity was even greater. For every close call w/ an FCS team there's been a blowout.. Pokes had blowout wins vs. AppSt and Texas State.. probably others I don't remember off hand. I think it'll be a good game.. Montana's more than capable of competing in the middle of the MW.

Spanky, how can you possibly say that Wyoming is "light years" ahead of Montana IN FOOTBALL, and the only evidence you can come up with is what went on between the Griz and pokes in the 1950's and 1960's??? NOTHING about college football is the same now as it was then. I'm not saying that the Griz will go to Laramie and win in 2014, but honestly, as far as programs go, the Wyoming is an FBS that Montana is VERY close to in all phases. And NO, War Memorial Stadium is NOT nice then Wash-Griz. More seats does not equate to a better stadium.

He does have a point though - tough market for art and english majors wondering 'what now?' while engineers are pretty well set out of school

Washington Grizzly has a much better atmosphere than War Memorial and has more butts in the seats and is much louder. It is too bad that Montana didn't have just one University like Wyoming does. Montana would have a 40,000 student University and be in the PAC12. Splitting resources between 2 universities that are as large or larger the WYO plus four smaller schools does hurt. Missoula and Bozeman are much nicer towns and areas them Laramie. Not many sane people would chose Laramie over Missoula or Bozo. If it wasn't for Colorado, u of Wyo would only have 6 or 8 thousand students. Wyoming does invest alot of that oil money into the U. They do have better facilities for the most part. They get over 2 billion dollars from State Severance Tax and their Share of Federal royalties. Although Montana has the largest coal reserves in the world, they have chosen not to produce much coal. Montana has seen the enviromental disaster that is Butte and tries to mitigate the damage at the cost of-dollars to the State education system. Wyoming doesn't care, they want the dollars. One fact remains, despite less money, the UM has turned many more Rhodes Scholars then Wyoming. Many academic aspects of UM are superior.
