And 2500 of those 4000 are there as fans of the Griz. :|

Clear proof that it would be the same for Montana.bigskyguy said:It did not work so well for the Vandals.

Oh wait a minute......... It's a Bball scenario.Hammer said:grizindabox said:Grand Canyon University is the newest member to the WAC...and Denver is jumping ship to the summit league.
If the Griz were to schedule Grand Canyon University in football Spanky would be among the first to proclaim the need for the Griz to quit playing down and schedule some 1-A competition. Oh wait a minute.........

You are misunderstanding my lack of love for the the BSC and FCS as love for the WAC. Have never exhibited love for the WAC. But when posters go overboard piling on the WAC or any other FBS conferance, or bowl games vs. FCS playoffs, someone needs to remind of the facts.Jerry Punch said:kemajic said:Oh wait a minute......... It's a Bball scenario.Hammer said:grizindabox said:Grand Canyon University is the newest member to the WAC...and Denver is jumping ship to the summit league.

Kemajic, I never saw that you responded to my point about the differences between SJU and LA Tech's unusually successful season this year and past abysmal seasons. It wasn't too long ago that Idaho won an astounding 7-8 games, and you were here trumpeting their success as a legitimate 1-A program. Now they are at the bottom of the barrel. I'm not saying the Griz can't move up, but what is with your love for the WAC?
I would much rather watch UM play Utah in the New Mexico Bowl than watch them play the Stony Brook Seawolves in the FCS playoffs. You can't be serious...Fortpeckgriz said:How does the Big Sky conference not look at moving up the entire league? I don't think the best team in the WAC next year could finish better than 10th in the Big Sky. That is a dumpster fire of a conference that had their ESPN tv deal cut from $4million to $1 million after Boise left. I can't imagine they want to pay to broadcast Grand Canyon vs Cal State Bakersfield. The Big Sky would be a much more attractive option for them if they were all FBS.

Jerry Punch said:Kemajic- I understand the W/L record over the last 10 years. That WAC doesn't exist anymore, though. It is gone. Most of those teams have moved on to bigger and better things. Other events have occured here in Missoula that change the game as well. A 5-6 Griz team does not exactly appear to be competitive in the Big Sky. What makes you think they could be competitive against the Old WAC?
In reality, I think the top echelon of Big Sky teams would be competitive with teams like LA Tech and San Jose State. But they aren't in the WAC anymore. Nobody is. Your argument is based on the premise that there is something better than the Big Sky. Of course there is. But today, and in the past, you lack the understanding of how to get there. Many, including me, agree with your premise. But instead of offering facts or suggesting a legitimate, palatable way to get there, you think that Montana should just "do it." In business and in football, things don't work that way.

The question we'll never know the answer to is this: Would the WAC have folded if Montana and MSU had made the jump when the then commissioner was introducing Denver (and thought he would be introducing Montana and MSU as well)?
