Would Weber State actually leave the Big Sky?

Summarize:
Idaho schools aren't leaving the BSC. If Idaho wanted to go, they never would have come back.

SUU and texas schools join the WAC. Done deal.

Montana schools are not leaving.

NAU and Weber are targets for WAC, one gets accepted, maybe both. I don't care what they say publicly. At least one leaves the BSC.

California schools - sac may go to WAC but not holding my breath. The other two are football only and I don't think wac wants football only.

Usd would be a good choice but they don't have scholarships.

A good wac football conference helps the BSC with a good western opponents. And we trim a few teams down from 13 football to 10

To me, looking at the footprint of the wacky WAC, I feel that UNCo is the most likely to jump ship. They are having the most budgetary problems and seem to fit what the WAC is going after.

The Cali schools are too far out of the WAC footprint or they might be good targets. I would say the same thing about UI, EWU, and PSU. Although they are all feeling the budget crunch as well.

The other possibility is that the WAC is finished expanding.

UNC just left the WAC for baseball because of budget issues, why would they join for football?

As mentioned I find it highly unlikely WSU leaves but at the same time it is still a possibility however slim. In terms of travel it would make perfect sense for them as they would literally have 3 in state opponents (2 for football unless UVU adds a team) to go with the 4 Texas schools, 2 cornerstones if you will:

WAC
Southern Utah, Weber State, DSU, Lamar, SFA, SHSU, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State

That alone would be a solid foundation for the Conference with a lot of room to grow and if UVU adds football (which I believe is only a matter of time) that's 9 teams. Also have potential growth in the form of additions from the Big Sky (Cal Poly, UC Davis, NAU ect.) but if just Weber joined that's not a bad looking Football Conference.

Weber could still schedule Idaho State every year and in terms of Non Conference Scheduling it would be a huge benefit for the Big Sky.

It doesn't make any 'travel' sense at all for WSU, not really for SUU either. It may actually cost SUU more to travel to some of those outback Texas towns. I don't think the WAC is looking to the North or to the West for its next mark. NAU isn't going anywhere and neither is WSU. I appears to me that the new WAC is a Soutwestern conference, Texas based. Draw a circle with the center being the center of Texas and the circumference being SUU. Inside of that circle will be where the next school will be targeted. I think that SUU only went because they have never felt that they can consistently compete in the BSC and they want to foster a rivalry with Dixie. It had nothing to do with travel expenses. If it did, they would be staying put. UVU would be a better fit to the BSC if they were to add football and they are an outlier for the WAC, as it is now.

With the moves the NCAA is making with FBS football and the budget woes of many lower tier G5 programs, there could be a lot of movement over the next few years. FCS may become a better solution for many programs out there.
