Would UM fans like THE BIG SKY 12?

Zzzzzzzzzz... Another entrant in the Griz moves sideways sweepstakes. What we have here is just another status quo ploy that would have the Griz continuing their nearly half a century presence in a conference they really should be planning on leaving. Going from a 9 to 12 teams in a BSC already populated by a strangely disparate collection of schools, some with ongoing budget and program success problems, offers zero, zip, nada benefit. Some of these schools have been dangling by a thread for decades without showing any progress. And before you grow the BSC you need to consider if it will even exist in the foreseeable future. I expect the NCAA has taken note of the screwed up nature of the BSC/ FCS and those observations will be reflected in their August 2011 D-1 reorganization announcement.

I think you can add on WAC drop down or two to the list over the next few years and maybe drop a big Sky team or two as they drop to D2 or drop football. I expect some weird changes to happen as schools squeeze budgets.

How about
Montana
Montana State
UNC
Cal Poly
UC Davis
SUU
PSU
SAC
San Jose State
Fresno State
NAU
Weber State

Billings: I enjoy your comments, but Fresno State - one of the most aggressive programs in the country scheduling the UCLA's and Wisconsins of the world - entertaining the Idaho State's and Southern Utah's ??? Their 44,000 seat stadium would become a cob webbed holding facility for illegals and the daft administrators who approved joining the BSC, because nobody in the San Joaquin Valley would pay anything to see the Bulldogs play such inferior competition...I'm giving you a pass on this one. I'd like to think you were still suffering the effects of a concussion when you sat down at your PC. Could you have meant the Montana-Western Bulldogs?

Silvertip, you had a typo in your post. Based upon your comment below, you obviously must have meant to type in "W.A.C." instead of BS Conference.

Utah St. and Idaho would be better fits for a conference than the CA schools, but they are no more likely to drop down. It's only the status quo (skeerd) crowd that thinks the BSC or FCS is a good deal. Once a program has seen the greener grass on the other side of the fence, they never come back.

A geographically more compact conference would be:

Montana
Montana St.
EWU
CWU
PSU
Idaho
Idaho St.
Utah St.
Weber
(SacSt, UNC and NAU to GWC)

Reduced travel, good rivalries; more competitive too, but there's nothing in it for USU or Idaho.

Is this the reason the SWAC doesn't participate in the playoffs? I've often wondered. I remember playing Alcorn State (?) in the playoffs back in the 90's and blowing them out by 50 points or more.

We have only played one SWAC school:
UM 48, vs. Jackson St. 7, 11-25-1989

Ineligible
*Ivy League - These football teams do not compete in the FCS Championship (no post-season play).
*Any team which schedules a game on the same day as the games in the tournament. (e.g., the SWAC Championship or Grambling vs. Southern in the Bayou Classic)
*Any team in process of moving up to FBS, or still moving up from a lower classification.

I say Ida-who? is the likely drop back-to-sanity school Poke. They can't keep up with Boise, while ISU, Montana, MSU, EWU and Weber are all natural rivals. They're a bottom dweller (okay, EXCEPT for this past football season) in a "Who are they?" conference. A small pill to swallow to gain some respectability back in the athletic arena.

Yep. Replace SUU with Idaho and you've got a possibility there.

Since the play-offs are now 20 teams (huge mistake IMHO), in a possible scenario, could they participate if they are:
- Not in a play-in, first-week game
- In the top 16

???

It seems like it is possible that they could conceivably be eligible from this year...

Get real. You are not helping your argument any with ridiculously stupid statements like that.

Don't you go worrying yourself about me. I do realize that he is being facetious. He is also making more and more foolish arguments that are not helping his cause.

He should be happy with the new recruiting list. There is something in there for everybody.

Why do people keep insisting( see praying) that Idaho would return to a Big Sky Conference that they were fortunate enough to leave behind 15 years ago. They've made it very clear that isn't in the cards. After some rough early years they've picked up some substantial WAC TV money - $600,000 last year.
And how many TV $$$ did the BSC divvy up to its members in 2009? As I recall zero, zip, nada...

I hear there are plenty of season tickets available in the Kibbie Dome since Idaho has their shit together and it is so bad in Griz land.

Exactly; you get it. With Wash/Griz and its faithful, Montana is far better postured for FBS than Idaho is even today after 14 seasons. And Idaho fans have no regrets in spite of their rocky road.

Yet their athletic dept is still in the red, despite the bowl win. They have a piece of shit facility that they can't sellout, which they did all the time when they were 1-AA. They can't even think about building a new facility either. Yeah they really have it going on, don't they.

Hell yeah I'm ready to head down that road! Wa Griz will look really funny with 15,000 people in it, don't you think?

Idaho NEVER sold out the dome back then! They has to get corperates to promise to buy tickets for them to move up... dont change history to help your case.

I don't remember ever seeing Idaho on ESPN or whatever... the only game I remember was on Foxsports in an opening game against Reggie Bush and SoCal... and I think that $600,000 was aided by Boise's success. That'll change. I don't know tip, if you don't fit into your big-boy panties, try something that fits. Like the Big Sky Conference and FCS Play-off Football. Oh whoops, I forgot, Ida-who? made the Hummingbird Bowl or whatever it is... congrats on a great year Vandals.

Mayor LaTrivia: Okay, so why did you only talk around the Holy Grail of the FCS, while gritting your teeth like the third person in line to use the only inflight toilet, instead of just blurting out the abomination (or is it ObamaNation?) "that dare not speak its name?" (Sorry O. Wilde) So, let me say it for you... The National Championship!!!! ...the beginning and end all for those who soil themselves while hyperventilating over a game that is not only bogus - but unprofitable. The Humanitarian Bowl, much maligned by lovers of the status quo, paid out $750,000 last year. And so I repeat a variation of my previous question - which remains unanswered - How much did the Griz realize from their last trip to the Holy Grail? And the answer is....? I thought so. 8-)

And can anyone identify a single Idaho fan, player or administrator who hankers for the good old days in the BSC and longs to return? Didn't think so.

First of all... is there an interprator in the house??? Second of all... Quit thinking with your little head and realize... It ain't about the money, Honey. Why don't they call the Hummingbird Bowl the $750,000 Bowl??? Cuz evidently Tip, that's all it's about, right? SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

PS: If you're bashing Obama, good job... I couldnt tell.

Ya... I took a poll. It was 2,438,034 for coming back... 162,893 against. Amazing huh? Even tho Vandal-ites are calling the past 15 years, "The Golden Years"... even more Amazing, huh?? Even tho they can't recruit well enough to beat an FCS puke like Montana... even more, more Amazing, huh??? Boy, I can't wait for Montana to move sideways and experience "The Golden Years" of WAC-level sports. Wow, I'm getting a tingle in my underwear like you other "envious" Griz fans. WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR!!!!
