Worst D-line we've had?

If you truly think Caleb Kidder is not one of the best UM has ever had you are not very bright. To completely trash one of the best players and young men you could ever hope to meet is sheer stupidity!!! Time to shut up

Kidder ranks up there with the best d-ends ever at UM.

Preseason hype yes, production no. Should have kept the weight and stayed playing inside. I do respect his effort to lose the weight and try to continue the run of NFL D ends but is not on their level. Good yes, but still not on their level, but few ever will be.

Lots of production. Draws a huge amount of attention from opponents on every play, and opens up opportunities for others. Coaches have nothing but high praise for him, as of when I last heard them talk about him. Think he will get drafted higher than our other d-ends did.

I would hope coaches talking about their players would praise them.....I think he was doing great things against weak teams, fair against NAU but EWU he did not. Wags, Bierman and Holmes got lots of attention from offenses their senior years and still had great production

You would hope that coaches give all players "high praise", saying they are changing or disrupting every play, they are in the running to be all-american and conference defensive MVP, and they have NFL scouts looking closely at them, they have a chance of being drafted? What a dumb comment? Coaches don't give high praise to every player. They sometimes criticize players. They often say nothing about players. Jeez, you sound like one of those everyone gets a ribbon people.

Agreed. The level of lack of football knowledge and ignorance on this board is just astounding at times.

You realize, in the 2nd half, Semore went to a zone coverage and the Eagle receivers just sat in the openings and then took advantage of bad tackling angles and still went for big yardages. Those 3 for EWU are crazy good and made Montana's entire secondary look very bad. Their usual mistakes were magnified where, against the Sac States of the world, it was not a big deal.

Caleb Kidder does demand full attention, From D-End almost always doubled teamed. In the EW game he was gassed. I mentioned in an other thread that he was having trouble getting off the line. I do not believe he was at 100% for this game. Now, I haven't talked to him or his parents after this game but is was evident he was not 100% or completely gassed from playing everywhere. Double teaming will wear your ass out! Is he as good as Holmes, Wagenmann or Biermann? The only true answer to that question would have to come from putting him at D-End on every snap to get an accurate comparison, otherwise it is only speculation. One thing for sure, he is more versatile than all three of them and bigger.

Probably not the worst d line ever but certainly the most overratted.. would say Kidder is maybe the most overratted player ever. He has accomplished nothing yet he is talked about as if he is a superstar. Just list the definite ends um has had over the years and Kidder isn't even in the top 3 or 4 in the last few years.

Kidder ranks up there with the best d-ends ever at UM.

Apparently these guys never stop to wonder why Buss and Strahm are always running free and causing havoc in the back field....its because every play Kidder takes 2 sometimes even 3 to stop him.

Y'all miss the point of my post yet again, Kidder is a great player but he is a big strong guy not a flat speed rusher, having him in the standing position is not maximizing his talent in my opinion, and please keep throwing defensive stats at me, how many sacks do we have in the last 2 games? Maybe 1 vs NAU and like 2 qb hits, think we got 2 or 3 vs EWU. I was asking a question, so I'll take it as a no. Kidder is not on the same level production as dends before him, but they may not have been as good standing either. But to say I'm ripping him and calling my thread stupid, just shows how arrogant some of you are on here, nothing ever changes, too many of you live your life vicariously through Griz football!

Hard to sack a guy when he has already thrown the ball to an open receiver. Suppose you could hit him, but that would add 15 yards to the play for a late hit. The talent difference between NAU/EWU and the other teams we played this year is pretty obvious.

Actually, one of the better d-lines UM has had in recent history.

UM is 2d in conference and 25th in nation in team sacks.

UM is 2d in conference and 24th in nation in Rush D.

UM is 1st in the conference and 8th in the nation in team tackles for loss.

Kidder draws double teams and changes or disrupts virtually every play. He is a beast.

Not sure what the complaint is here.
Bingo.

Bingo #2. One of the BEST things a D lineman can do is eat up blocks that allow linebackers to flow unimpeded to the ball carrier.

Probably a good candidate for dumbest thread ever.

Agreed. Can't wait to see what dumber post pops up tomorrow.

You may be right but "dumbest thread ever" is an enormous category. I'm prepared to go top 10 but really the body of work in this genre is staggering.

Seems to me your point was asking if this is the worst DL the Griz have ever had. I don't believe it is, as ever is a long time.

Everyone knows the 1940 line, led by Andre Maginot, was the worst ever.

Boy howdy....followed closely by the 1951 line anchored by the consensus honorable mention All Big Sky NT Tits McGee...

Kidder is an excellent DE. You really can't compare him to Wags and Holmes who were assigned to speed rush around the edge and get to the QB. Kidder is assigned with bench pressing the OT into the backfield. Ask the LB's and other DL if they are benefiting from this. Kidder is doing his job at an extremely high level. It is really a shame that people can't understand that. DE isn't always about sacks and contain, especially with how Kidder is being used.
