I doubt that phu talked to JJ about a transfer. I think that would be a NCAA violation. U of M would have to agree to let him talk to JJ and I doubt that would happen if they were planning on keeping him.

You really think engstrom wants jj back? he would have given permission in a heartbeat.
Engstrom isn't the one who gives permission.

Silly me. Youre right, engstrom has never over stepped his bounds. Not sure what I was thinking.

I never said he didn't step out if bounds, just pointed out the obvious. Don't get your blue and gold panties in bundle.

Many players and some coaches have said in interviews that there's more under center and pistol options in the offense this year. Not a total shock. Also keep in mind that probably about 70% of Hauck/Phen's offense was still read-option, esp with Swogger/Bergquist/Selle - those guys were in the shotgun more often than not and ran zone-read.

JJ will be a problem for defenses in any offense that allows him to spread them out. He is a weapon to run or throw. He can get it done from under center, pistol or shotgun. It will be great to get him back no matter the formation.

Boy I bet all the teammates who stood by his side enjoy this kind of talk. I'm thinking the rumor mill has been fed a quarter.

I must have been really drunk during Hauk's time cause to me he ran more of a pound and ground attack with a little bit of play action thrown into the mix.. At no point did montana's offense resemble teams like Florida and W. Virgina who ran the read option back then..

I'm not trying to start a pissing contest, it was just my observation of how I thought Hauck/Phen ran the offense......

I can't believe it's been nearly four years and people still are totally bewildered on how to spell Pflugrad's name.

Just look at the time when this was posted.. It holds ZERO credibility!

I will be shocked if JJ does not remain a GRIZ. I do think in the long term it might be wise to change the offense to more traditional. However it needs to be done slowly. It will be a nightmare transitioning all at one time, no matter who is behind center Also the OL is pretty damn good under the current system, which is the main reason to not do this overnight.

As for Guffey, ETC, I think a few of you are being smart asses. I talked to him before and after the GRIZ/NAU basketball game. He was in good spirits, and spoke of the future very positively.

Let me get this straight, we're going to an on the ground, pound it out offense with THAT recruiting class we just had? The one that focused nearly 100% on speed and pure athleticism? Right...

I can't see JJ leaving, why would Weber want to take a chance with him? If he wants his life back and wants to have an offense that will see him produce, the Griz will have it, not Weber. Weber I don't believe would want to get in on the whole "accused (albeit not convicted) rapist" deal.

...Is that Delaney has completely scrapped Pflu's read-option offense for a more Hauck-like power-based attack. In addition, supposedly when JJ picked up his playbook this week, he was not happy, to say the least. Do with this information what you will. I am in no position to call out the people that would back me up on this, but suffice to say it I have absolutely zero reason to doubt it. Go ahead and flame me if you want, I really don't care, just trying to bring some legit info to the board. IF this is the case, this would be a blunder of epic proportions by Delaney. You get JJ back only to run an offense that mitigates his greatest strengths??? I seriously hope I am wrong...

P.S. In addition, supposedly Delaney is enamored with Gustafson, maybe this explains the transition...
I have heard the same rumor regarding JJ's unhappiness with the playbook. I also heard from a good source--a friend of Phlu's--that Robin met in Missoula late this week with Jordan and his family about his possible transfer to Weber. Phlu told them he would carry the paperwork for a waiver from the NCAA. This from a close friend of Robin.

Additional rumors: Guffey, Murphy, and Christie Anderson have all been asked to resign/retire. Guff has employed a lawyer claiming age discrimination.

Think JJ's family left Missoula early last week so they weren't around for this supposed meeting which others have already pointed out is a likely ncaa violation if there was no permission.

I full can see Engstrom instructing Delany to change his play book to keep JJ off the field. It's sad to say, but hey Engstron is the same guy who decided not to renew O'Days and Robins contracts. No I did not fire them, UM is going in a different direction. Looks like Engstrom is doing the same thing to JJ, new direction, new play book.

You don't honestly believe this is possible, do you?

I mean...wow. I've heard some stupid things before, but this one...this one takes the cake.

Pflugrad said towards the second half of the season they quit running zone read, still zone read looks but actual plays called . JJ was getting to beat up to run straight up zone read. I don't JJ will be complaining about not running zone read . It will probably keep him healthier .

JJ will be one of the top FCS qb's in the nation this year, so I hope there isn't any truth to the rumor. UM will field a very strong team this year with JJ behind center.

What the hell? These rumors make me so mad that I want to crush my beer can. Someone get me something to crush my beer... Okay, thanks lady.

Thanks, I'm much better. How about we wait and see how this all plays out. :thumb:

I call bullshit on all of this! Delaney just came off the worst record the Griz have had in 30 years he is not going to do anything majorly drastic to cause more obstacles on this team that have already been done the past 18 months. Especially with a Qb that got us a TD away from the NC just 15 months ago. If Delany does do this, he is a traitor and an idiot.

You can't run an offense you don't know how to coach. It was always up to Pflu to teach his offense to the coaches he hired. Smith and Rosenbach, and Gragg for that matter with the poor blocking schemes in 09, were all coaches who had to be coached up by Pflugrad.
Pflu's gone and the coaches on staff need to coach what they know best. The new OC and WR coaches never spent time with Pflu, but they've coached together before. Things are going to be different.
I hate to see Pflu's offense junked. It was changing the pace of football in the Big Sky and will continue to do so at Weber and MSU with it's new Chip Kelly influenced OC. Montana isnt going to be part of that.
Thank God there's more than one way to move the ball.
