I think the Griz beat ISU comfortably this weekend.

I also picked them to win @UCD, Vs. UNC, and @ PSU. Davis has proven, at least to me, to belong to the bottom half of the conference this year rather than the top half.

If that came to fruition, then one more win-- @ID, Vs. SAC, or Vs. MSU-- would put them into the tournament. Even if they end up 7-4, I bet they get in.

Frankly, I hope that they win at least five more times before the Brawl. As much as I enjoy watching the Griz lose an individual game, the rivalry is way more fun when both teams are playing well and are highly regarded. It's not nearly as exciting going into Cat-Griz if one side or the other just expects to get stomped.
Need to be 8-3 to make playoffs. Ferris St. game doesn't count.

I selected all 8, because hypothetically they could all be won by the Griz. My hypothesis is that the Griz will have a lot of swagger and DOLA, but it is yet to be tested so it remains a hypothetical hypothesis. But this poll doesn't even list any hypothetical playoff games or a hypothetical NC, all of which would be wins hypothetically speaking! I bet my hypothetical life on it. This is sports, its not supposed to be fun.

This is not true. Nothing in the selection process says a team MUST have 7 Div 1 wins only their record can’t be .500 or below. There are other factors like SOS and how they’re playing at seasons end. Hell I think UNI has gotten in a couple of times with 6 wins.

You forgot the ever important factor of Denny's wallet.... he bought you a game last year and i am sure Haslam is already puckered up again this year!

if SOS is a factor, the Gris are sunk!!

They will not get past 5 wins, so it's moot...

If they ens 7-4, then it is really 6-4. Zero chance

I think you're starting to get it. I had to learn it this, too. We know how important these polls are, and how many people use them. We owe it to them to put our lives on the line when making selections.

6-5 teams have gotten in before. A UM team that's viewed as 6-4 for all intents and purposes would be a 1/2 game better than that. They would also bid well to host a game in the first round, which clearly factors.

This actually really surprised me, because I have always just accepted it to be true when people said you need 7 D-1 wins. That isn't actually true. I just went and looked up the official NCAA "NCAA FCS Selections 101" link that they have up.

It says that "Less than six Division 1 wins MAY place a team in jeopardy of not being selected." (Emphasis theirs)

So it looks like you only actually don't HAVE to have six D-1 wins. Obviously if we end up with six wins we probably don't deserve to be in the playoffs, but that is the only guidance I am finding. If anyone else is finding a different requirement, I'm happy to be proven wrong. This was ten minutes of googling, so I didn't do exhaustive research.

Thanks for being patient. I have never won a conference championship so I’m a little slow on the uptake on this stuff.

8-3 makes the Griz a bubble team with only 7DI wins, one over a transitional FCS team. If there are 4 other BSC teams with at least 7 DI wins Griz get left out.

8-3 is not a bubble team. 5 big sky teams made playoffs the last 2 years. D2 games count; they just don’t count as a sort of required 7 D1 threshold. Some of you need to read the playoff criteria.

Playoff criteria. Note the words “may place that team in jeopardy”. Personally, I don’t think the Ferris win would
put the Griz in jeopardy, but I suppose it might depend on the situation of other bubble teams

“Overall record
Record against Division I opponents (an institution with fewer than six Division I wins may place that team in jeopardy of not being selected)
Record against opponents from other AQ conferences
Record against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents
Head-to-head record
Record against common opponents
NCAA Simple Rating System (NCAA SRS) Data
FCS Coaches Poll
Input from regional advisory committees

Therefore they are non-counters, as specified by the committees over the years. That is why there is a discussion everytime a team schedules a D2 team. Yes I have read the criteria. Yes I have discussed it.

The Griz would be considered a bubble team at 7-3 D1 wins. Their saving factor, assuming the defeat UNC, Portland St, and Idaho St, they could have two good wins. The two wins would need to come from rated teams, if UC Davis doesn’t continue to fall.

If that is the case they would be in most likely. It doesn’t matter how many teams come out of the Big Sky, as there is no conference limit.

There has not been anything that has shown that will happen. Good teams do lose, but good teams do not lose in every phase of the game to an 0-3 cellar dweller.
