Winning Two Straight Road Games

Lest we forget it's the same ISU that has an FBS win and the same record as the Griz this year. Lest we forget last year we were losing to NAU, CP and UNC on the road. Lest we forget many, many posters were predicting losses to PSU and ISU. Point being, those that were hoping he'd fail so he'd be gone are some disappointed little puppies today after two straight road wins.

Pump the brakes a little. All I am suggesting is a little bit of perspective. Your OP makes it sound like the Griz are World-Beaters, and the doubters should be icing their nuts. In two road wins, we have 2 quarters of good defense, against arguably mediocre teams. Having said that, I loved the second half. It gives me hope.

Go Griz, and Go Stitt! And that is no sh$t.

Again, Stitt can't win road games. When he does, the competition suddenly becomes inferior. It's a classic eGriz model....

Explain how PSU isn't a poor team? Yesterday's come back was encouraging but let's not get to high yet. ISU dropped some easy balls in the 2nd half that helped us tremendously.
Okay, so we dropped three or four balls against EWU that would have absolutely buried them, and if we do that, we’re 5-1 and in the top 15.

This year feels different. When we went down 19-28, I seriously thought we wouldn’t recover. Instead, they rallied and finally showed me that they can fight all four quarters and get a win on the road.

If we win our remaining home games, we are in the playoffs. I like our chances to go 4-1 from here on out. The good thing is that the two remaining teams with great defenses don’t have that great of an offense to go with it.

We aren’t out of the woods yet, and the defense still bugs the hell out of me, but damn, this is the best I’ve felt about this team in a long time.

Maybe everyone can just calm the heck down. I like Bob Stitt. Runs a clean program, is a great example for his players, he can recruit very well and he values his family. Not to mention he treats people with respect and appears to be fairly humble. It amazes me how many people forgot where the Griz truly were a few short years ago. No I am not talking about winning. I am talking about a damn dumpster fire that was largely self inflicted and Stitt had nothing to do with sanctions, coaches getting fired, players acting inappropriately or a lack of leadership at the very top of the university (Engstrom and the damn BOR). I truly hope Bob Stitt is successful. Another coaching change would result in a setback IMO. The defense has got to get better and so does special teams. Anyone who watched a game can clearly see there needs to be improvement. I am 100% positive the coaches are aware of the weaknesses. Players have to do their part as well. The team is only half way through the season. Time will tell. Until then, try to not sound like an absurd ass and just support the team. Kids are working hard and they appear to have a way better attitude than last year. Freshman QB, ton of talent on offense and hopefully this season will go well. Go Griz!!

Spot-on assessment of the Big Picture :thumb:

Dumpster fire. Please explain.

Pflugrad got fired. Do you blame that on anyone or anything other than Engstrom?

Sanctions were for a player mom fronting a few hundred dollars for a week, at the request of a concerned out of state grandpa, to bail out his grandson and a friend—after the cops wrongly tased and arrested them. And a lawyer that was evaluating and setting up a possible contingency fee case and-or providing a small amount of pro bono work for students, which is something they routinely did.

This is your idea of a dumpster fire?

The Weber and NAU games are back-to-back and we will likely be the underdog in both. And the others aren't gimme's. Your liking our chances to win 4 of the 5 are pretty optimistic without substantial advances in our D and ST units.

Weber, NAU and the Cats scare the heck out of me. And I don't see NColo and UND as gimmes. Every game is going to be a dog fight.

Very true. We have been seeing this year Stitt do exactly like he wanted. Smart QB running a the RPO, mobile QBs but not running QBs. OL capable of a 1000 yard rusher. Limited sacks. Aggressive WRs with a mix of speed, size and agility who we can rotate 6-7 guys. Can put up 40 on pretty much anyone and run 80+ plays a game. He's literally exactly what he said he wanted to install. He did it in 3 years.

On offense agreed. there is definite need for a more experienced DC on the defensive side though

3 of those 5 are at home. We win those and we're in the playoffs.

PR, you forgot the free hotdogs some volleyball players got at a tailgate. That was the straw that broke it all (or the match to the dumpster)!

CMT, thanks, I agree with you. It's just the"internal problems" you speak of were NOT deep and wide; there were a few, small non-issues (see above). Engstrom's cowardly, fecklace "leadership" turned a mosquito bite into gonnosyphilitus!!! He should have stood up for HIS organization, defended HIS team against the fake news attacks, and calmed the zombies. Instead, he was too chicken, so he chose to cower which fed the bleed lead frenzie. He still needs to be held accountable!!!!!!!!!!!

If the second half trend continues from yesterday, I like our chances. This looks like a much better team than we’ve seen under Stitt so far.

That said, I agree with you that it won’t be easy. It’s tough to gauge any of the remaining teams. I think losing to three of the last five remaining teams last year will help motivate the team to come out and play well.

I have a ton of confidence in the offense. Hopefully we’ve started to turn the corner and we can correct some of the defensive and ST inconsistencies.

None of the games scare me, but I agree with your overall assessment. However, winning the last 2 on the road, and getting the record to 4-2, is a good accomplishment and very good step in the right direction. ISU is actually a pretty good team with pretty good talent, from both observation and from what I have been told by people who know what they're talking about. PSU is pretty solid too. Those games were tough road wins, and not gimmes.

I am starting to feel more optimistic again about the team and the season, but we shall see. While the defense baffles me at times, even as it continues to defend many drives and make key plays (while giving up a ton of yardage), the offense is more productive than I expected. I see huge effort in this team, and it's been there in every game, and I detect no quit at all.

Jacob, agreed. Our problems were made more than they were by very poor leadership and unfortunately the repercussions were devastating for the school not just football. Engstrom made a mistakes and then failed to lead effectively after those mistakes. He needed to become a new leader or move out of the way for someone else. He did neither and so was removed by someone else. Too bad the damage had been done. The UM will recover and so will football though I am sure there are some enjoying our struggle at this point. Might make our return to prominence in the Big Sky more enjoyable though when it happens.

Apparently either winning two in a row is winning over some of the doubters, or our opponents are getting progressively worse.

PSU - 30 votes that we'd lose
ISU - 9 votes that we'd lose
UND - 1 vote that we'll lose

Not so hard to win over with the 12 members of MB. At least "Growler" finally (publically) admitted he really does want the Griz to lose.

I hate predicting, feel in some way responsible if we come up short. With that said, I have a very very good feeling about this game in particular, the ones following not so much. Kids are focused, confident (but not over) and excited to be home. Even with UND on the upswing I wouldn't be surprised if the clock ticks down in the 4th with us three scores ahead.

.....gulp....

Near as I can tell there is group of fans that prefer Bobby Ball style of football. And frankly Bobby won alot of games but HOW he won those games and HOW the big games that were lost seems to escape this group of fans. Look at the playoff record, those teams lost 3 times AT HOME in the first round. People remember Bobby Ball as physically dominating, well it was, IN THE BIG SKY conference. When they played the other conferences in the playoffs not so much. Do some research, look back at those losses. This is the partially reason why he didn't succeed at UNLV, no way could he recruit physical enough players there to beat up on a weak league. I'm not bashing the guy, he won alot of games. Don Read knew he wasn't going to out physical the other teams so he simply outscored them.

Honestly, I know this pisses off some of the older fans, but I love the idea Montana being a fast-paced offensive powerhouse. We aren't Midwestern, Great Plains, Big Ten people out here. Let's get some QBs who could throw the ball over them mountains and crazy athletes and a giant cornfed O-Line. Let's be flashy and have some fun.

Not worried about the offense: Griz defense needs to Haul butt to the Ball, Break down, square up, brad to the numbers, wrap up, drive through the ball carrier, or hold him up and let your friends do the stripping. Simple basic stuff...

I, am however somewhat concerned about our running game. Offensive linemen must do a few things: Fire off the ball, get a foothold in defenders jock, climb his frame, smell his breath and drive his butt backwards. Simple basic stuff

That’s some played-the-game verbiage right there, and damn sound advice. F$&k the group hug method, get the guy on the rug ASAP.

Agreed. My old coach used to say "get there quick and arrive pissed!"
