Will Jordan Stay?

Another thing though to consider is the UM Court situation. They have expelled him once before, although it seems like many times it was on false/inaccurate information.

I'm assuming Paoli will make a couple calls & clear this up really quick...

an FYI..Plu has been a great family friend of the Johnsons for years. Jordan's dad coached Plu's son at Sheldon . Plu was coaching at UofO, while his son helped make Jordan the POY in high school football in Oregon. Plu stood with this young man and it cost him his job (unjustly) . Jordan probably wants to leave Missoula in his rear view mirror. It certainly wouldn't shock me if he did transfer to Weber. I am just very relieved and happy Justice was served and wish and pray for both familys.

I think the fact that he's been allowed to stay in school the whole time is a good sign for him.

From another thread:

I can't imagine JJ won't be back. I suppose Paoli may have to work some persuasion on the university and university system, but I don't see that as a major obstacle. The momentum to allow him to return will be large. The quick not-guilty verdict on a long and important case was a resounding rebuke to the prosecution, and in some respects to the university. The downside for the university, as well as potential additional stress on the accuser if Paoli has to fight and seek redress from the courts, will be significant. If Engstrom tries to fight this, he may create even more issues for his remaining in his job. Johnson has been lifting, and lifting hard, with Steven Pfahler since last fall. He has been hitting the weights with a vengeance, perhaps as a stress reliever. My guess is that he continued to lift at night during the trial. He is very strong. He was throwing in the fall. At times, there were over 15 players in the court room. Coaches, grad assistants, equipment people, trainers. O'Day and Foley lent their support. Pflu would have been there on occasion, but was a potential witness.

A transfer to Weber (or any FCS/FBS) would require he sits a year, and there's the technical question of his redshirt - was that granted this last season? If not he'll be a senior this year. If he wants to play Montana is his best bet.

I believe you can take the redshirt any time for any reason as long as start to finish is no more than 5 years. In this case it was good that he did not take it in the first year as Growler always stipulates.

I have this weird feeling that should Jordan decide to stay, he is destined for great things. We already saw how much he improved by the end of his Sophomore year. But now he has weathered this awful traumatic experience. I feel as though this can only strengthen his resolve to prove himself at Montana. This experience will have changed his entire life, and I feel will give him a new mental toughness in the face of adversity. When you think about the nerves you must feel in a National Championship, it can't be remotely close to standing in court awaiting to hear whether your life is ruined. All things moving forward will be in a completely different light for him. I really hope he does decide to come back, and can't wait to see him in a Griz uniform again. Go Griz!

Although I can't speak to JJ's current state of mind, I do know that as of last semester, he was telling close friends that he was committed to seeing this through and hopefully continuing his career in a Grizzly uniform. He understandably could have changed his mind since then, but I kind of doubt it given today's quick and unanimous result. As to the matter of his University status under the conduct code, signs are fairly positive. Upon last year's Student Conduct Court debacle and JJ's subsequent expulsion, Paoli had UM's new Conduct Code evaluated by a retired federal judge, who said that not only were the proceedings against JJ unconstitutional at best, but also opened the door to massive liability claims against UM. For this reason, Regents' chief Clay Christian allowed JJ back in school pending the results of the trial. Given this situation, I don't believe RE or the Regents are going to be in any hurry to open themselves up to the host of lawsuits and additional scrutiny that would come with pressing this matter any further.

I agree. He may turn into a very special player for us. His story/play could end up legendary before he is through.

Some doors open as others close!

Great point. I feel he may become legandary in Grizzly history. Some doors open as others close.

I fully agree. He will be on a mission. His teammates will too.

I think Paoli should bring a claim against the university to get a settlement to cover the Johnson's legal expenses. The claim would be for the wrongful and illegal university proceeding (i.e. how it was handled, including the changed standard), which the retired judge (above) believed was unconstitutional and caused damage.

Now that's an idea...

In an article I just read on Fox Sports, Kent Haslam states that Johnson now has the right to appeal his removal from the team due to a "change in circumstances" but that he hasn't yet had contact with Johnson.

JJ could've already left if he really wanted to....sure, he had to come back to town for the trial, but was there any legal reason he had to stay in Missoula? And he has remained in school. I would like to think that that means he is planning on staying here and pursuing reinstatement to the football team. One thing that became clear during the trial is that he has a close relationship to his teammates and some of the coaches. I would imagine they will be lobbying him to come back.

What about against the county? The detective was obviously an agenda fueled predator, incompetent at best, malicious at worst....and the DA who proceeded with a shit case.

either way he would be coming back in 2013 as a Jr. If he was to red shirt in 2010 his missed season last year would have been his soph season.

Haslam and Gee are on the committee overseeing such appeals. Is believed to be a formality without intervention by RE. Could be done in time for spring ball.

This speaks well to his maturing mentality; don't forget his physical maturing as previously mentioned by PR with his lifting regimen. He was a bit frail before; I think this year of strengthening (mentally and physically) will make him far more durable and capable of a 16 game season.
