Will coaching improve?

MD does have the keys to the Cadilac. My hope is that he puts his foot down on the accelerator and keeps it there while never losing track of the road ahead. It seems like he went into coast mode in a few games last year and it bit him badly. I think 2013 will turn out to be the Year of the Griz.

The coaching will be improved this year with a year under their belts. JJ returning will be huge for the attitudes on the team and the players will play much harder. The huge cloud has been lifted and these kids and coaches will rise to the challange. Our offense will be much better and be able to have some ball control and allow the defense to get some rest and be fresh when their time comes to make stops. We should see a much improved Griz theam this year.
Go Griz!!

We are going to win a lot of games this year. The team has been coming together and will continue to do so. I think the obvious coaching mistakes we saw last year were made worse because of our 5-6 record.

I think we will see less coaching mistakes and player mistakes. I am kind of thinking that our current staff could end up very historical before they finish up here. Seems odd at this point, but coach Delaney could end up legendary before he is through. He is keeping the ship afloat and we will have one very fine team this next year.

Wasn't it at Eastern last year when Coach Delaney gave the ball return to Eastern in both halves?

I am not particularly knowledgeable about the intricacies of Football Strategic Theory, so can someone explain that to me?

It was UNC not Eastern...

We will have a better & possibly much better record this year due just to the team being more experienced. It is much easier to coach a solid team than an inexperienced team. I see this team as being a top contender in the Big Sky. Don't flat out blame last year on the coaches.

For those in the know, will any of the football staff be attending coaching clinics this off season (please. no coffers+moths responses)?

I would never do that BUT there were some WTF moments last year.....

my biggest concern with the coaching is Hynson. I'm hoping that Lurch can keep him from pulling stunts like he did on special teams last year. You want some WTF moments... there is a bucket of them right there.

Agreed. The two coordinators thingy seems silly to me. Remember it took JJ half of 2011 (Weber game) to get into his groove with Jason Smith (even tho they had at least 1.5 years in the system). i'm afraid it may take even longer with 2 OCs which he as no experience with yet.

I'll go out on a limb and say that with the fact that it is no longer 2012 and all that went with it is behind us(the microscope is being lifted a bit) and the coaches learning curve will begin to flatten out we will see an improvement in the coaching. Even further I think Scott Gregg is gonna suprise some people. That and the fact moral will be heightened should prove positve on the football field. :thumb:

Jason Smith?

Wanna bet..... I heard on kickoffs we are installing a new play that when the ball is kicked our players will break down right where they start and wait for the kickoff return to come to them. That way they are insured of being in their lanes.

oops, Jonothan.
And technically, in the second half of the CalPoly game, JJ started to show his accuracy (much earlier in the season than Weber, but the playcalling didn't seem to mesh with JJ until Weber as JJ was basically hurt until then). Why on god's green earth would someone want to put JJ under center? It would be like entering a Ferrari in the Baja 1000.
