Wiley quits

What happened?? :o I thought Jake had loads of talent and potential. An already thin situation, in terms of post players, just got thinner.

You all know the information I held out now. I did not say anything because I was asked not to post it on egriz. I knew awhile now. I don't know the reason, and doubt Wayne will release that to the public. I do know it was not due to trouble or bad grades. Wayne tried hard to keep him a GRIZ.

Too bad, I had high hopes for Wiley. I thought he'd get a lot court time this year due to his athleticism and his size. Damn...

Tough time of year to lose a kid, right at the beginning of the season. No chance to bring someone else in but maybe Wayne can pass his scholly on to someone else? Does basketball have partials? We must have a walk on?

This sucks. I was looking forward to him having a good year. His athleticism will be missed. Wonder what caused this?

No, Basketball does NOT have partials.

Did anyone know that Wiley was leaving before this article came out? Like, maybe somebody knew this was going to happen, but didn't post anything, but they knew before most of us? That would be cool.

he wasn't going to play many minutes, so he is a quitter, who cares

I honestly don't know anything about the young man or his reason for leaving, but GB1 may have a point. I knew he was a great athlete, but I have always been of the belief that you don't want anyone on the team who does not want to be there. It can kill chemistry and team performance. I wish the young man good luck. I would have killed for an opportunity to play sports in college and get my education paid for in the process, but I guess he wasn't feeling it.

Seriously, unless anyone knows the whole story, calling him or any athlete that leaves Montana a "Quitter" is damn disrespectful to that athlete, family, and friends. Leaving a school for their own reasons certainly does not make anyone a quitter!!!

How would you feel if the reason, or reasons he left were due to family related reasons, and he felt it be best to be closer to home? Maybe he just did not feel Missoula was right for him any longer. That happens, and again does not make him a quitter. If you are going to call someone a quitter, back it up as to what makes them a quitter. Is every athlete that transfers to another school a damn quitter?

Rather we know the real reasons for his leaving or not, I recall reading an article on everything Jake Wiley overcame to be in position to play college basketball. It was a damn good story. Many people wrote the kid off in his childhood. In my opinion, GRIZ or not, the kid is a winner. A quitter would have never overcame what Jake Wiley did.

Jake, thank you for your time as a GRIZ, and I wish you the best man. Seriously, would those of you calling him a quitter please provide the proof!!! Unless you can do that, I hope you reconsider that damn label of anyone.

Well...ummm, he quit. So there's that. And no, I'm not "labeling" anyone. Simply pointing out the proof that you desire.

So if leaving team, job, area, etc gives someone a label of "quitter", most of this world is filled with quitters then. The kid is not a quitter. He chose to not be at Montana. I guess the definition of quitter varies from person to person. To me, quitter is someone who quits on life, and gives up on their dreams, or allows themselves to hit rock bottom.

He will likely play basketball elsewhere, or at least go back to school some place else. Hell he might not do any of those, but decide to work for a living. To me those are a matter of decisions and doing what you feel is best for you and/or your family. Leaving a school or a team does not justify labeling anyone a quitter. If leaving a school or team is all it takes to label someone quitter, then current GRIZ, Riley Bradshaw, Jamal Jones, Jamal Anderson, Ellis Henderson are all quitters too. Yet, because they left other places for Montana, no GRIZ fan labels them as quitters. They were not, or are not quitters, neither is Wiley.

Amazing how the athletes who left elsewhere for Montana are celebrated, and given accolades are put on high pedestals, yet one leaves Montana, and they are a quitter. We cannot have it both ways, this attitude of labeling a kid a quitter over leaving a damn school and team does not deserve to be labeled a quitter.
