The bold is the point I’ve been trying to make.
He might be the rare kid that has a family who tells him to stay.

I'm not trying to disagree at all with your larger point, with which I agree, but he may be the kid that gets an offer and stays. His parents were real big on him staying even in the adversity he faced early on. Probably just wishful thinking

It's actually sort of an interesting question, there are probably a number of factors. Recruiting territories would be one. Unless we find a unicorn; an in-state QB who can grow to run an FCS team, we have to look further afield. One problem there is that our back yard with lots of population is Washington/Oregon which have powerhouse FBS teams known for throwing the football. Good Idaho kids are probably looking at Boise St or one of the Utah FBS programs.

Pressure from the fan base to win not just right now but always might affect how the staff look at QB's. The Griz fan base don't seem really big on allowing "growing pains" like a couple of 5-6 seasons.

I think you will find in the future that with the new college football realities it is less likely rather than more likely that we see Bobby's program or anybody's program more likely to develop kids who stick for 4/5 years at QB.

Or you may be on to something and perhaps developing QB's is not one of the strengths of Coach Hauck and his staff. Hell, we can't all be good at everything. I for example happen to be excellent at being a potentially gay, soccer playing, Canadian but I'm lousy with DIY projects.
Solid post, other than the digression of the last sentence. Most of the great Big Sky QBs over the past 10-12 years have come from California, and we recruit that state hard. But we never seem to even offer the QBs who have become great QBs. EWU has had one-after-another, and NAU had a couple of them. And of course Idaho had one last season. But we never offered any of them! Why? It's not like we are being out-recruited with these guys........ we don't even give them a freaking offer!

I was going to suggest that if the OP is truly tired of chapped and chafed asses, that perhaps he should avoid inserting his finger into them. But it just seemed too easy.

Are the mods going to allow this 3d crap to go on? I see that 3d says Titleist will vouch for him. Is Titleist now the protector of 3d like he has been with Alpha?

I replied to what he ACTUALLY posted...even if he meant what you think sacrament state and montana state are returning starting Q.B.'s from last season...

Another couple of good Q.B.'s on average to bad big sky teams are Richie Munoz from weber state and Dante Chachere from Portland state..

Now what do you got?
Suck State’s QB is a white version of McDowell with a slightly better completion rate. Mellott doesn’t fit our system. And I wouldn’t want either Munoz or Chachere under center at UM. I’ll take what we’ve got over any of those 4.

You're hilarious! You know NOTHING about "what we've got", except hype. There is no history to make your outlandish statement. And Hauck would take Mellott this season in a heartbeat! Just what is our "system"??? ROFL

If Hauck took Mellott he'd be playing safety.

Chachere IS McDowell. Literally. Almost identical stats. Bennett is a poor man's McDowell. Little better passer, worse runner. We've kicked Mellott's ass all over the field two of the last three years...

So yeah, I wouldn't want any of them under center. I'll take our changes with Fife, Ah Yat, Huot, et al.

Mellott would be our starting QB this fall, and it wouldn't be close.

There is one little problem the Griz could NOT overcome. He is an Engineering Major, right?
You are correct. My understanding is that there was little interest betweem Mellott amd U of M, in part because it was known that his career goals would send him to MSU. My understanding is also that he feels better about the choice academically than he does athletically.

Hard pass. He’s a hell of an athlete, but wasted at QB. should be a slot receiver, RB or safety.
Always have wondered about him in the slot. I think he would have been incredible there. And he is such a smart kid, I would trust that he would adapt very quickly to finding holes in a zone and sitting down to get easy completion for his QB. Quick and strong enough to be most press coverage he would ever face.

I am not sure his body would hold up at RB or safety, but I don't know.
