Aw now, give the guy (or gal ... must be PC) a break. Aside from the preponderance of recent crap, this forum is labeled as "... football ..." etc). ;) :lol:

Myself, I think EWU has earned its place as a tough (now!) foe. Used to be, NAU played that role (seemed to me), outside the "natural" rivalry with the kitties.

Personally, I think that, if the Griz (and JJ) can "suck it up" despite all the outside distractions, they can parlay an "us against the World" theme into a damn good season.
NAU? When? NAU has beaten us exactly once in the last 24 years.
Oh, get over yourself. :(

For quite a time, it seemed like NAU "played the Griz tough." I was simply giving them credit for that, compared to other teams in the BSC. I know, lot's of fans figure -- "if you lose, it doesn't matter whether it was 1 point or 100." Well, some of us give a bit of credit for "playing it close." Using a "win it all, or you're losers" philosophy, every team -- including the Griz -- are perennial losers. (Only one team can be champion, unless you're in the BCS.)

I think we both agree that no team in the Big Sky has consistently challenged the Griz in football for a long period of time. (Certainly not MSU.) But different teams have had runs where they made the Griz worry about winning that particular game. For awhile, NAU was that team -- now it may be EWU. That's all this discussion is about (IMO).

I have no better idea than anybody about how the Griz football team will come out of their current media-driven adversity. (And we do not know what further bombs may be dropped.) Worst case, all the distractions and uncertainty will lead to a disastrous season, from which the Griz may not recover for years (if ever). In that case, which particular team thumps us worse will be rather academic. Best case: (as I said) the Griz team -- supported by its loyal fans -- will "close ranks" and kick butt all around the conference. I like to think that is not a totally unlikely possibility.
Griz fans seem to forget that EWU has a won a national championship much more recently than UM..

Not sure why you picked this particular "conversation" to quote, but I -- for one -- certainly do not forget how long it's been since the Griz were NC ... or played in the NC game, for that matter.

Earlier, this forum generated a lot of static about the pros and cons of playing the NC in Frisco. (What were the flights like? How were the bars? Where would we tailgate? Was the field/stadium any good? Etc.?) Well, we've never been there, have we?

EWU will probably be the toughest or 2nd toughest game next year with App State. Both teams have a lot of question marks, but are both generally good to great, and the games are usually close. Could go either way

Whereas the Cats have suffered blowouts in 4 of the last 5 years, EWU actually hung in there in their losses

Ignoring that MSU is rated preseason at #3, UM at #5, Appy at #6 and EWU at #22. MSU will have a good defensive team and a QB established in their system; EWU, not so much. The ASU game will be our toughest by far, followed by MSU. Playing in front of nearly 30,000 ASU fans wanting revenge, since they have never beaten us, will be a lot different than playing in front of 9000, only 6000 of which are EWU fans.

Actually looking forward to the EWU game more than the Cats. Both teams ought to be good this year and this is one of those years where both teams have the same strengths and weaknesses. The offenses for both teams ought to be very good and both have questions on defense.

I do however disagree slightly with most of the EWU fans that appear to have already proclaimed Mr. Padron as the second coming. BLM was a fantastic qb in part because of his ability to pick up the nuances of the EWU scheme very quickly. Despite his obvious ability, no one really knows if Padron will be able to do the same. He certainly has the physical attributes and appears to have the intelligence, but whether he will be as good or better than BLM is anyone's guess.

With this game being relatively early in the year, (9/30), I think the Grizzlies do have the advantage even with the game being played in Cheney.

And William & Mary was preseason #2 last year, so those numbers don't mean sh#t

Anyways, I said probably (unlike you) because we don't have any idea how things will turn out next year, but recent history sides with me :|

The Griz have lost 2 straight in Ogden..........now if only Weber could be competetive in Missoula. :?

Don't sell yourself short. You've only lost the last two by a combined 56 points. :lol:

I've been a big fan of EWU and when the Griz aren't playing them, root for them. When the Griz are playing them, I'm nervous.

In the last 10 years...
National Championships:

EWU = 1
UM = 0

Since you favor recent history, in the last year.....

EWU = 6-5
UM = 11-3
CPSLO = 6-5

And then there is always....

UM = 14
CPSLO = 2
We were talking about the last 10 years, UM, EWU and national championships.

If you want to talk Cal Poly, UM and national championships then it's CP = 0 UM = 0.

If we are talking playoffs games against each other it's CP 1 UM = 0.

If you want to talk in the last year then UM has lost an AD, head coach, OC, DC, O-line coach, 9 defensive starters, 5/6 offensive starters and they are under a federal investigation.

...and the Griz will still dominate. Ouch.........

So you guys just think you'll pick right back up where you left off and be a kick ass team right out of the chute, so much so that you'l be favored in the EWU game on their home turf?

I don't think anyone said that. What I said was that ASU will be a tougher gig than EWU for the reasons stated, in spite of them having problems of their own. I have no problem standing behind that statement and believe that anyone that doesn't agree is not very knowledgeable about FCS football on the national scene. In a lot of ways this is a trap game for Montana. I do believe MSU will be better than EWU this year, but it will take the season to find that out.

Regarding UM's season, it would not be wise to discount them. The team is coming together even more under the pressure. The defense will not be as dominant in spite of getting Jordan Tripp back, but the offense is going to be way better. Anyone from the Spokane area should know our OC is impressive and he showed it in the spring. He has a lot of returning talent on the O side.

I don't really want to enter that pissing match (again), but we ARE all posting on a Montana message board :\
I am just having fun with kemajic. I respect the hell out of Montana. Wish they were on our schedule this year.
