Why Isn't Pease Being Given More Attention Again?

Wish Jonathan Smith was interested:

2014 – Washington – Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
• 2012-2013 – Boise State – Quarterbacks
• 2010-2011 – Montana – Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
• 2004-2009 – Idaho – Quarterbacks
• 2002-2003 – Oregon State – Graduate Assistant

UW fans haven't been thrilled with Smith this year but a lot of blame should be on QB limitations. It says something that Petersen (highly respected offensive mind) chose JS as his OC over Pease, etc.

Pease was still employed at Florida when Peterson hired Smith if I recall correctly.

Nope.
Ahhhh, so that's why he's interested in coming to UM. There is probably a little bad blood between him and Peterson. JS is clearly a great OC. Just as long as we don't wind up with Tim Rosenbach as our OC.

So if I am reading this right, his "self assurance" from his player days followed him through his coaching career here. He followed Don Read and Jerome Sauers (yes Don read spent a year at NAU after retiring here) to NAU. His self assurance has seemingly been problema everywhere he has been.

He came here to interview last time. He was so self assured that had had no plan for the future of the team, no list of possible hires etc etc and as a result wasn't hired. He has been spiraling down for a number of years getting further away from a HC instead of closer He was recently passed over for an OC position and is now looking for a job?

As suspicious as all that sounds, what is it that he has learned since the last time he interviewed. Is five years enough time to learn, gee whiz, you have to have a plan and a staff to be a HC? Or to we just need swagger?

Swagger again would be nice!.

I dunno. I suspect any of the names mentioned could go either way. The difference will be Kent. He needs to be hands on enough that there is plenty of oversight and removed enough that he isn't involved in the day to day "coaching" decisions.

We are in a position now where the HC relationship with the community (and press) is as important as pressing flesh with boosters. Its clear to me, that the program is moving up and soon. I suspect more than a few are underestimating where RE wants to go with things.

Straddle the fence much? You backhand Pease with your language, talk about relationship with the community being crucial (i.e. not BH) but then you could go with anyone. Come on. We all know you are an academic. Your slip is showing. :thumb:

You may be right Griz Pony - sort of.

What RE wants is a football program where he can sit in his box with assorted mucky mucks drinking room temperature wine with stinky cheese an look down on out team playing a high class school (No PSUs or even Easterns) he doesn't want to be embarrassed by either the teams performance or who they are playing. They need to be an academic peer or better. His goal is top build and enhance academics. Whether they carve out another FBS conference from Missouri Valley BSC and the left overs or join a conference of note is irrelevant. You can be a contender every year for the FCS title, and you will be nothing (There is a reason the Ivys don't play - the other FCS schools are beneath them) You are better off at 500 in the FBS.

The Washington Money is not about athletics, its a "part" of making UM a more "elite" school. RE and his crew aren't hanging out with Boosters" they are hanging out with the Jack Poes, Denny Washingtons, Davidsons, the tech folks etc etc all to attract the academic money. The new coach needs to fly with that crowd. Good ol boys need not apply. Pease may fit in, I duuno, Bobby may have gone to Charm School the last 5 years. But whoever the new coach is had better be able to fit in. It requires being more than being house trained.

Well from what I have seen and heard, the monied intelligentsia are not that impressed with RE so maybe he's trying to climb into a perch he isn't capable of sitting in? Many of those individuals actually care about football at UM and realize that coaches rarely "hang" in their social circle. And they don't need to. They need to have a team that wins and consists of good citizens. It is the rare coach that played sports as a child and also hung out in debate and chess club. I think RE overestimates his understanding of either end of that spectrum. He is a cloistered academic that is detached from reality. It is nice that he has found academia and he should leave this decision to others.

While I agree with everything you said, I think TNT is on to something. I have felt from the beginning that RE was more concerned about the wine and cheese events AFTER the game and that football was just a "neat" thing to do on Saturday afternoons. Somehow he strikes me as one of the asinine individuals that are constantly asking "what happened!?!?" And "did we score yet?" And driving the people around him nuts with his incredible lack of even the basics of what he's watching on the field all while feeling intellectually superior to everyone around him. Just my $.02, others opinions may very.

Exactly the reason it would be awesome to get Bobby back...just to watch him drive RE into insanity!

RE has told me to my face that he prefers basketball. I don't think he really likes football and the fact that it is critical to funding and enrollment at this school irks him.

The football program is our best marketing we have available...theres no coincidence that the year after we played UNI at night with a packed house and than before that the App State game that the years to follow we had our highest enrollment ever....kids see the school and atmosphere on TV and say hey, that looks like a cool place....I had a buddy from Pittsburgh that literally came to UM because he saw that App State game on ESPN and thought "it looked fun"...hahaha

I've heard, but probably not true, that the Washington's said if you want our money for "academia", $$ designated for football comes with it.

When you have spent your lifetime going to a mailbox every two weeks and finding a check in it for your living, it is really hard to understand marketing, economics, and reality. We are seeing that play out with our enrollment issues and cuts to academia. RE wants to blame the "economy" and the fact our degrees aren't as marketable as MSU's, but we all know Waded is a way better leader. Who is John Galt?

This is not surprising to me as football is generally not enjoyed by those that lack both testicular and intestinal fortitude.
