Why is it surprising?

I thought I died. My dismay is/was far beyond getting a few drinks and a day or two getting over this. I thought we would do some things better and perhaps lose but this?

I am going to ISU and I'll enjoy the game and yes we will be luck to win the damn thing. We might play well...who knows?

Coach also said after the game that they had many missed reads. aka, missed crossing patterns.

Way to throw your QB under the bus, coach. :o

He said "we." Not like Ash, who actively blames kids for his shortcomings every week. He's a pathetic excuse for a DI coach.

FACT: The Griz program has basically stagnated for more than a decade. The level of play it used to get away with is no longer possible with parity arriving in the Big Sky. Portland State is just one example of teams we used to regularly beat like a drum. At an earlier time when UM was the gold standard in the BSC/FCS the powers that be elected to take their foot off the gas and put football on cruise control. We're seeing the results.

The Griz have not stagnated over the last decade. We have moved backwards over the last 5 years. The big sky conference is no better now than it was 10 years ago. We just are not as good as we once were.

That a team, with an new coach and new offense (relying on passing), breaking in a new qb, who breaks his leg and then the backup breaks his foot, loses in the rain and on the road, to a running team, with 1 loss and who has beaten 2 FBS teams?

It's surprising because the Griz no longer reload year in year out like you used to. You talk about this new coach new qb excuse, guess what...Portland states coach is coaching in his first year and their qb is in his first year as a starter. You have suffered some injuries at the qb position, that sucks, but you were also 1-2 in games your starter played...

The excuses grow old, good teams, good programs find a way to win regardless of the circumstances.

Portland State has a running offense with its first team qb still running the team, right? Your comparison is apples to oranges--and inapplicable. UM's new offense is a hurry-up spread pass-dominant offense. It's now being run by the 3d team qb. He is not yet ready to run it as a hurry-up. Surprised that you know little about the game that you can't see, understand or admit the huge differences between PSU and UM's situations.

Great point. Most teams aren't even doing well with the 2d team qb, let alone their 3d teamer. I truly don't understand how people can't understand that offenses don't run as well with their 3d team qb, especially an offense like Stitt's.

Were the Griz stagnating when they went to back-to-back national championships in '09 and '08. Or the semifinals in '11?

My thoughts are simple. I continue to think we will be a better team next year and the year after. I was hoping we were better than we actually are. Pure "Griz fan" thoughts and I like being a Griz fan and will continue to believe we will get better as time goes on. Recruiting good players simlar to the good ones we see on other teams will be key as we move forward.

I think PSU is the best team in the league. Good players, good coaching and very few weak areas.

Valid points, but UM had their starting QB for most of the first 3 games and went 1-2 (a worse winning percentage than both of your backups), Portland State, same situation, 3-0, and weather did not play a factor in any of those games. Both teams had new coaches, new qb's, is that a better comparison for you.

Portland State has a much better Oline than UM. That's the biggest difference in allowing quarterbacks to be successful.

Good point PR, but don't take Fatigue personally, some people just struggle with common sense.
I'm not sure who Fatigue is but I'm guessing it's a typo. If you bother to read my next post after the one you quoted you would see that I actually agreed with PR, however, his tactics of treating everyone else as less than human get old and he doesn't need to start a new thread for every little point he wants to get across.

Sorry, you are right, I did not read the next comment. I admit to only reading about 1/1000th of what is posted on egriz, so I admit, I am not a well informed poster and often times what I post has already been addressed.

How the season has gone, and what the expectations were at the start, is not exactly a "little point". It is one of the major "points" of the season, and how the season is turning out. It surprises me that some posters apparently didn't realize that this could be an up and down season, and that there were going to be more downs as the QB's got hurt. I often post directly and don't post to avoid hurting the feelings of posters who don't know what they're talking about and I don't like or respect. I'm not an every poster gets a ribbon type of poster.

13,798 of 'em.........you certainly are a poster! Do you "like" or "respect" anyone? Does anyone "like" or "respect" you? That many posts at a keyboard by yourself seems to answer both questions.

Who really cares how many posts any poster has? By the way, I surely hope fan websites turn to participation ribbons. :thumb:

There are about 15 posters on the board that I don't respect, plus the various Cat or other trolls. Yes, lots of people respect me. I know lots of the posters, hang out with a few, get lots of emails, calls and PM's from posters, and see run into a number of posters at tailgates and around town. How about you? Does anyone respect you?

JMU is 0-2 since their starter went down. Villanova is 2-3. It's usually the way this game works...

Ohio State, third strings first start - big ten championship. Adjusting isn't impossible, I'm worried Stitt is so in love with his system he won't.

Feel free to explain your statement that OS starts its 3d team qb. Also, give us your time line showing that the OS situation is similar to UM's, in that the 1st team qb was hurt in 3d game and 2d team qb was hurt in about 5th game. Note that getting beat out means the qb isn't a first teamer any longer.
