Why he's the administration's top choice

If Stitt is the choice as so many seem to think, why hasn't an announcement been made? For all I know a press conference is being scheduled for today but in literally every situation I am aware of once a choice is made the announcement is made quickly so as not to hurt recruiting. Could it be that KH has other candidates that no one has even mentioned or is he waiting for Pease to interview. Or maybe Stitt is looking at other opportunities? Something just doesn"t add up here and there may be more going on than we know. Any ideas?

At this point my feeling is we have people interested in the job . However the one candidate we want has some other options and is holding out to see if he lands this other job.

Let's say that is Stitt. If he or any candidate is saying they need to see how or if this other options plays out.

If that is the case then UM had better look to option two. This also lets you know that candidate will be gone at the drop of a hat for the next job.

I also fear that all of the candidates we are looking at are holding out with other coaching changes taking place. This could be the most likely scenario. They are all waiting to see if they can take the rich girl to the dance. If not then the girl next door is there and ready to go.

I think we should keep an eye on Colorado State. Every candidate on the list for the Griz gig could likely be in the mix there as well. We might not get an answer until that job is filled.

Personally I'm very frustrated with the fact that the media(whomever) has hired and announced the choice before the athletic director. If in fact it's not Stitt it makes him and everyone else look bad. If it is Stitt it makes Haslem look bad. People need to go to work and let the process work  That's the time we will know who he is, what he plans to do, and who he will keep. Till then I really wish news outlets would stfu. I'm getting a headache!

I think your correct. CSU is in the Las Vegas Bowl I think this Saturday. I looked at some new out of Fort Collins and they sound to wait until after the Bowl game to make a hire. That being the case I bet we don't know untill next week who are hire is. Heck throw in X-Mas and it could be the following week!
Sort of a bummer and it just shows how much more pull FBS programs have. UM is not that far off mark from CSU as a college. They just are in a position to pay moe being at the FBS level.

If we are waiting on Stitt or someone else to see how the CSU job pans out then we are really in trouble. If we have offered the job to someone and they asked for some time to mull it over while they pursue another opening, then we offered the job to the wrong person. If we have to wait for CSU to announce their new coach before we can make an announcement, we have surely dropped to the bottom. Next Up Please!

I agree. If we offer the job and the person does not jump at it, they don't want it.

I have a feeling that once the coach is named its not going to be anyone that we seriously thought was a candidate. I have no info but just a guy feeling.

What if it is a situation where Mrs. Coach has to be consulted / convinced it is a good place to move to, a good place to raise kids, etc? Maybe she has never been to Missoula, or Montana. Maybe they have kids who have never lived anywhere else, and are very ingrained in the town they live in? As a wise man once said, if Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

I agree if we've offered a job to someone that doesn't say yes I'm absolutely in, than its the wrong man.....could it possibly be that Haslam has his man in Stitt, but maybe say TG is throwing a fit, and theyre waiting for him to say he'll stay and coach under Stitt? Many said if he didn't get the HC job he was gone....just an idea...I think this hire if Stitt will be great....he seams like a guy with an awesome attitude, a great system, and anyone known as the INNOVATOR of something generally has a good future ahead of them....you want swag and a connection with recruiting kids...how bout a pr campaign called STITT HAPPENS...this guy will be great on so many levels IMO.

Nick Saban has said the same thing.. his wife calls the shots.

There is no reason to believe she knew anything about the UM other than perhaps hearing about the rape allegations and the thugs in the football program. My wife would sure ask for an explaination.

A clean, stable program... one free from even the slightest hint of past controversy.

Other considerations aside that's what Engstrom and his surrogate Haslam want most in a new football coach. And that's why probably Bob Stitt sits at the top of the prospect list. Stability? Fifteen years at Colorado Mines. This is a mid-career guy who would seem less inclined to bolt after a couple of seasons thus putting the aforementioned pair through another time consuming search.

Stitt's Mines team is made up 100% of engineering majors who no doubt have precious little free time to create negative press for the school in the local and national media. Even one season at Harvard would appeal to Engstrom who probably sees that as some kind of reflected glory by proxy adding further to the prestige of making a hiring from a highly regarded earth science school. Not even Stanford has such a narrow recruit base as Stitt has had to work with at Mines.

And once they digest that they'd be getting a guy who won't have to elevate himself from a position coaching job to learn the responsibilities of running the total football program via a lengthy on-job-training process. And oh yeah, they'd also be getting an offensive-minded innovator who might have the more mundane X and O types conjuring up a decades old image of what another outsider, Don Read brought to Griz football.

Do you have inside information that Stitt is the administrations top choice.

Seen MD at Barnes and Noble this afternoon, and he didn't have a clue what the administration was thinking, at least that is what he said.

If Stitt is the choice, why has it not been announced, there is no conflict for Stitt or the administration.

MD eluded his staff don't know what to do and the clock is tick,tick.tick.

He also agreed with my comment that an announcement won't be made till after Sat.

Saw my Uncle Mick this weekend in Butte. He was watching his some of his grandkids...Butte Central girls b-ball, and attending church at St. Anns on Farragut st.
