Why don't you hear about legal trouble from Lady Grizzers?

If anyone really believes there weren't Griz and Lady Griz basketball players at that party this weekend, you need a reality check real quick!! I think what a lot of people are really looking at when it comes to ALL student-athletes is, not whether they break the rules, it's whether or not they get CAUGHT!! If you think that for the last 30 years Robin Selvig has only coached TWO players who have violated the law, team or school policies, you are crazy. Now, the answer to why more football players get CAUGHT than basketball players, I don't have that answer other than what people have already SAID, which is the liklelihood per weekend is higher because there are over 100 football players to 15 basketball players.

Couple points. As noted earlier, the Griz rosters show more track & field athletes (cross-country, indoor, outdoor, M&W) than football -- and maybe more than FB and BBall combined. Somehow, they did not show up on the police "blotter." Perhaps a high-jumper or BB center is not "newsworthy"? Or are they "lily white?"
As to getting caught, or not -- same statement goes for student who are not athletes. What kind of people say: Oh, I HAVE TO go to this rave! It's just the thing! Oh, I know there will be guys dealing drugs, and the cops will be watching. (And maybe setting up sting operations.) And I'll probably drink too much, and (for women) some guy could sneak me some [choice of date-rape drug] ... but "it's where the action is." I just HAVE to go. Absolutely brainless c**ks and c**ts.
Was I ever tempted, BITD? Sure. Did I go? Nope. When it's obvious the police with their paddy wagons will be out in force, even a half ounce of common sense should say: "Stay the hell away!"
 
Idagriz, I'm not defending football players' mentality. I'm simply saying there is NO WAY, in Robin Selvig's time at UM, which is a long damn time, he's only had two players break the law. Can I prove it? Of course not. But seriously, if you think each and every weekend for the last 30-plus years, there have been only TWO Lady Griz basketball players who have broke the law, team rules, ect., you are just not living in the real world.

Never thought you had that (defending) in mind.

We are in total agreement, I think. Three factors at work, I suspect: (1) Smaller number of potential violators involved, as suggested above. (2) BBall players are generally less well-known than FB players. And (3), BB players have perhaps a lower "sense of entitlement" as to what they might get away with.
 
I believe this is all a a conspiracy by those that believe that Montana is and should be a basketball school. I will not mention names, mtgrizrule, but you will see all those basketball first guys use this to push their agenda....Montana was and should be all about the "round" ball. :coffee:

I enjoy and support both football and basketball programs. I hope there comes a day when both football and basketball are well supported and recognized.

Slight exaggeration on the "no one cares," but not much -- definitely a lesser level of interest for most fans.

As to rape of a man -- just can't get my head around the notion. (Sorry if I offend the occasional gay, physiological male, but I just can't.)
 
Shannon cate is now in hall of fame and on coaching staff....just saying ...Robin might not be as pure as you think

It is long past his time to retire. UM women used to be a national force..now....they play the same slow game..against mostly teams also play the plodding game.
 
re track & field athletes and x-c men & women -- in many cases I think you are double counting, that is, same people competing in indoor & outdoor track, or x-c and indoor/outdoor, so actual # of individuals will be less.

and while we're at it, wasn't Stuberg a guy who stood by as other freshmen Fb players beat (and kicked) the crap out of a kid> Von Appen being name of one guy who disappeared. so should he have been tossed for standing by?
 
I've taught at the junior high and high school level. Football, basketball and baseball players are invariably the biggest headaches when it comes to athletics to deal with. I'm not saying every player exhibits horrible attitudes about classwork or blatant disrespect towards school officials/teachers but it's more common than other sports. Male track and soccer athletes have tended to show some more academic motivation.

I've seen one or two cases of lack of academic motivation from female track athletes but that is it. Female athletes are more motivated behaviorally and academically. Maybe females aren't enabled and propped up on a pedestal by adults like male athletes in money sports? Maybe female athletes don't emulate their role models acting like d'bags on ESPN like males do?

Or maybe females tend to be more mature at a young age than men are? I'm going with this one.

No Stuberg was getting a DUI in the summer that never hit the papers....wait, no that is him. :thumb:
