Why Didn't The Big Sky Expansion Happen in 2003?

Can one of you guys help me on the voting history on this? Yesterday all I could think about is how unfortunate the vote against adding NDSU/SDSU was.

I really hope with the FBS shakeup happening, the Big Sky and Missouri Valley could figure something out and prepare themselves for a strong conference at the new second level. My dream conference would consist of this:


NDSU
UND
SDSU
USD
UNI (football only)
Montana
Montana State
Idaho ( they will be dropping down to FCS. Mark my words )
Idaho State
Weber State (need them for basketball)
Denver (basketball only)

Would be an awfully competituve conference.

In 2003 the Wac was undergoing a shakeup (again) and there was a lot of discussion of Montana moving up. The rest of the league on the west coast had no interest in adding teams in the Dakotas. Of course back then UND was still saying it was a mistake for NDSU and SDSU to move up and claimed they never would. Hindsight I guess.

My recollection is that the presidents (including Dennison) were concerned about the travel costs to Fargo for non-football sports. I know Dennison voted against it.

Probably a good call. I would like to have them for football, but probably not the other sports. It's not like we could dilute the BSC more, but that would do it.
