Play action would probably work if the QB wasn't already faking a play action every. single. play. of the game already. IMO.....
Don't disagree with that, but perhaps the problem with the play action currently is that they have JJ fake to a RB (or no one...) and then make him stand back there and wait for ONE slow developing deep route to open up. That kinds of takes away the surprise.
If the opposing teams defenses are doing what you say with the linebackers, then play action should be working. If it isn't, than we are doing it wrong. We don't have good success with intermediate or even short routes. Either they aren't giving JJ enough options, or he is in love with the deep ball. They should have got the TEs involved much earlier Saturday...IMO.
