Why bobkittens over the Griz?

We lost to psu. At home. On Homecoming.

We got absolutely embarrassed by davis.

nodak throttled us from the opening minute.

We don't deserve a playoff spot, people. We may end up getting one, but we don't deserve one.

A playoff spot for this griz team? Fuck that noise, right Everett? Maybe you can put together a petition or something to force Kent to just say “thanks but no thanks” to the selection committee because, well this team is just so damn undeserving. To think of rewarding this griz team and their seniors with a home playoff game and then a possible second round game in one of the Dakotas is just so wrong. roll:

I think it's funny to see people who never played the game and who don't understand the game, saying things like "this team doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs". My god, what are they thinking? Who do they think they are?

Loved your suggestion for Haslam declining the invitation.

My view is people who say stuff like that don't deserve to be fans. Should be banned from following the team.

This shouldn't be very hard to understand, they beat two teams that we lost to. Got it kids?

Seems you are blinded by common sense. Don't let that confuse the others on this website. :ugeek:
Yea right... common sense wins and losses don't matter to some. Dig up some meaningless stats, that will make us feel better.

Seems to me that if UM beats MSU and then has a better record, that it's clear that UM should be selected over MSU. It would have nothing to do with the 2 mentioned losses. Head to head win and better record trumps.

Yep, but it shouldn't be a mystery that they are ranked now and we are not.

Since dutch has obvious issues using the "quote" function, I'll reply to him here so as to keep the board somewhat legible for those of us who have used a computer previously.

Dutch, my man, I would absolutely love it if the Griz and their seniors get a playoff game. I'll continue to stand by my position that it's undeserved and that this isn't a playoff quality team, but that won't deter me for one moment from attending the playoff game and thoroughly enjoying it.

See, I'm of the opinion that you can be a reasonable, rational, objective person and still remain a fan. Call me crazy!

It is a bit of a mystery to me, but no big deal. Why are they ranked ahead of the Griz?

So, if UM got into the playoffs and won its first game, would you still believe they didn't deserve to be in the playoffs?

Will Kent Haslam recuse?

I remember when O’Day was on the selection committee he had to leave the discussion if the Griz were being discussed.

So conceivably there will not be a BSC voice if the Griz come up for consideration.
Kent will be there if the Cats are up for discussion. That being said, does anyone really think Kent Haslam is a positive influence for MSU to get into the playoffs? I hope Kent remembers what Mark Emmert did to the University of Montana a few years back. A year long investigation that turned up free hot dogs at tail gates and free legal advice from a grandma. If MSU wins I wouldn't bet on them making the playoffs.

If the cats win they are in. And Kent will most definitely be pulling for ANY big sky team to get in as that’s part of his job.
Keep telling yourself that. His job is to put together the BEST 24 teams from the FCS not just the Big Sky.

Couldn’t agree more. I didn’t say he would do anything unethical to get a big sky team in. In the same breath, he’s not going to intentionally keep the cats out because they’re the cats like someone suggested.

If we lose Saturday it’s moot.

SOS and resume, its really isnt that difficult if you know anything about the game

SOS and resume, its really isnt that difficult if you know anything about the game

The SOS's are almost the same. MSU got clobbered in 2 of its 3 tougher games. In the SRS (Simple Rating System), wins and margin of loss or victory, are just as important as SOS. So, getting blown out by highly rated team doesn't didn't do the Cats any good. The FCS playoff rules refer specifically to the SRS. It's really not difficult if you read and understand the playoff rules.

UM's SOS is better than or comparable to 6 teams in the CAA, including JMU. UM's SOS is better than all the teams in the Southland. Better than most teams in the Southern. Not as good as any in the MV. NI seems to have the toughest FCS SOS. Better than UND.

As for resume, the Cats have nothing on the Griz. Only the winner will have a chance at the playoffs, and the winner will be ranked higher in the FCS poll too.

It seems that you are unaware that the FCS Stats poll (the ranking) is done by media and there are no restrictions on what information each voter decides to use. Some may use something simular to the playoff selection criteria and others may just fly from the seat of their pants.

When comparing the 2 teams.

4 common opponents, MSU went 4-0 um went 2-2

MSU losses, 3 teams ranked in the top 5 currently, 1 team that is on the bubble and had rankings during some of the season,

um losses, a 5-5 MVC team that MSU beat, a 4-6 BSC team (home game) that hadent won an FCS game in like 19 games, a 6-4 Ind/BSC bubble team, and a currently top 10 ranked team.

I think um played 1 team that is currently ranked while MSU played 3

That all said I think the winner this week get a playoff birth, I also dont believe that either team will be able to go beyond the first round unless they happen to draw one of the weakest teams in the field.

Baloney, I see plenty of teams in the top 25 that either team would beat.

Only playoff quality teams deserve to be in the playoffs. Just because a non playoff quality team like this year’s edition of the griz were to beat a playoff quality team in the first round of the playoffs doesn’t magically make the griz a playoff quality team deserving of a playoff spot. It would only mean that the playoff quality team that they beat didn’t deserve to have to play them and didn’t deserve to lose to them because the griz didn’t deserve to beat them because they were not a playoff quality team.

Remember the 2011 Giants, I think they were 9-7. They didn’t deserve a wildcard spot because they were not a playoff quality team and they didn’t deserve to win all of their playoff games and the super bowl for the same obvious reason. What you seem to be advocating for is rewarding a non playoff quality team for beating a playoff quality team in the playoffs. Does that really make any sense?

The Cats and Griz are playoff quality teams. Hopefully, one will get in.
