Why a lot of people don't like GU

What's with all the talk about swagger and arrogance in the GU program? If it's based on the above mentioned clearly biased and largely unfounded article, that's pretty weak soup. I have followed the GU program for some time, deem myself fairly objective about sports issues and I just haven't seen evidence of all this supposed arrogance and attitude that is being alleged here.

If reference is to some of the GU fans, that is a different matter. The school and the program certainly can't control the opinions or behavior of its fans. Witness some of the opinions posted on this site.

If I am missing some great body of evidence that the GU program is an arrogant, out of control program, please enlighten me. I just don't see any widespread indication that is the case.

did you not read my reply? do i not count because i am a cat fan? few is an arrogant ass. i respect coaches who love their players but all he cares about are himself, and his star players. he doesn't even give his subs on his own team the time of day! at the time of my working for him richie frahm was mere months from leading them to the sweet 16. i was talking to richie in a shooting drill during the kids part of the camp and he said that while their relationship always seemed good, coach few would hardly talk to him anymore! basically, he had no need for richie anymore, so why waste his time. as i said before, i have a ton of respect for what that program has done, but absolutly zero for few as a man. obviously he can coach but i will always root against them as long as few is at the helm. and for backer, i hate to tell you but few hates the griz, hates the cats, and hates every other person, player, and team in the country; and loves his starters! :thumb:

The bottom line is: Some people don't like the Zags because they used to be able to beat them at least half the time and now they almost never beat them. If the Zags came back to the pack, all of this talking them down would cease.

Maybe you can't keep track of posters, but it was cat fan who took the shots at Few, based on his experience. I simply took what YOU said, and now are trying to spin the shit out of. That is fine with me, but you can't have it both ways. I also said the Griz were not going to beat Gonzaga, especially at their house. I will say that the Griz played WSU far better than the Zags did. Ask Low from WSU who he thinks gave them a better game. And I do own what I type; I stand by my opinion that there is a difference between someone who may not have time to shoot the shit with a summer camp volunteer and someone who headbutts his own players. I see your comprehension skills are no match for your ranting ability. Please read what YOU WROTE, once more . You said it , not me. If think Lou could even admit to that, but maybe I am being overly optimistic. In your defense, maybe what you are missing is that words have meaning. Screw the ZAGS and their posters here. I do not care anymore. Thanks to the ZAG posters here, I officially am pulling for all regional teams but the ZAGS. I can no longer be on board with this program. I took much pride the last 10 years cheering on a regional team. I am now taking that energy to adopting the Cougs as my 2nd favorite regional team. The difference being the Coug fans are not coming on here thumping their chests.

Thanks to their posters here, I now realize they are now too ELITE and are no longer a NCAA darling. I do not want to be part of an elitists group of fans posting on another fan base website. GO GRIZ, COUGS, HUSKIES, BRONCOS, ALL the WCC, WAC, MWC, and BSC. What does the team from Spokane have in common with all the teams/conferences listed above (except maybe the Cougs)? They will all be watching NCAA games on the tube after the 1st or 2nd round.

Speaking of misquoting, go back and read what I said. I NEVER said you MUST support Knight. What I said was "I guess you supported", which was worded in a way you could clarify it, because I always thought someone who threw a chair must be a cocky, arrogant dick, words you used. I like Knight for his knowledge of basketball, and for the multitude of good things he does off the court, that most people don't know about or give him any credit for. I thought the chair incident was pathetic.

I simply took exception with the words you chose to use and justify by saying it was OK as long as he won a lot of games. If you don't think the descriptors you use would aptylu describe Knight's behaviour, then what would you call a coach that throws a chair? I think that is cocky, arrogant, and something a dick would do. So do you see why I asked the question?

But if being cocky and arrogant is the same thing as behaving like Knight (like you suggested), then everyone who is arrogant will throw chairs and headbutt players. Surely you agree that this is ridiculous due to the fact that there are many arrogant coaches and only one who has thrown Knight-like tantrums.

Speaking of misquoting, go back and read what I said. I NEVER said you MUST support Knight. What I said was "I guess you supported", which was worded in a way you could clarify it, because I always thought someone who threw a chair must be a cocky, arrogant dick, words you used. I like Knight for his knowledge of basketball, and for the multitude of good things he does off the court, that most people don't know about or give him any credit for. I thought the chair incident was pathetic.

I simply took exception with the words you chose to use and justify by saying it was OK as long as he won a lot of games. If you don't think the descriptors you use would aptylu describe Knight's behaviour, then what would you call a coach that throws a chair? I think that is cocky, arrogant, and something a dick would do. So do you see why I asked the question?

It is flat out wrong, however, to assume that anyone who is an arrogant dick throws chairs. And subsequently assume that if I believe Few to be an arrogant dick, then I support Knight-like behavior. You can't just flip the conditional.

An example usually helps: Let's assume that everyone who sits in the NEZ is a Griz fan (might not be true, but let's assume that it is). It is then fair to say that if I sit in the NEZ, I am a griz fan. Now, if I flip the conditional like you did, I would conclude: If I am a griz fan, I sit in the NEZ. Obviously wrong since there are plenty of grizfans who don't sit in the NEZ. Now, I may support some grizfans and not support others. (I may support some arrogant dick and not others). Just because I support one grizfan doesn't necessitate that I like any grizfan sitting in the NEZ. Just because I would support Few were he an arrogant dick, doesn't necessitate that I support the chair-tossing Knight.

It all starts with stating that if one throws a chair, he is an arrogant dick (correct), so if one supports an alleged arrogant dick, he supports chair throwing behavior (flawed).

The NEZ example made me laugh because most people that don't sit there think anyone who does is pretty much a freaking crazy ass Griz fan. The only ones I see complaining about NEZ fans, are other NEZ fans, generally when it comes to booing or standing.

The irony of the Knight/Few comparison is they are friends and I am pretty sure they have fly fished together.
