Who's your starting QB?

This. I just wish the coaches would work with McDowell on his release and footwork. He short arms every damn pass, yet still does a decent job of finding his target. His natural inclination is to run, but that gets him in trouble at least 1/3 of the time. He would be a true threat if he learned patience and improved the technical components of passing. I was impressed with Chambers in the SDSU game. I believe he is truly a dual threat QB and MSU isn’t using him correctly. Hopefully McDowell will be the same. Vidlak is a true passer, but the run game is more predictable with him as QB. No problem there IF our receivers were achieving the required separation. They aren’t. Additionally, he missed on a read to a receiver running a fly route. Almost got picked. All he needed was a quick pump fake and he had a touchdown. Not sure he is experienced enough yet. Maybe that is the point. Get him more game time.

Respect your opinion. Chambers, however vs SDSU for 3-9 for 53 yard and 1 pick. Those are horrendous numbers. I don’t think he’s a good passer and has struggled with that throughout his career including at Wyoming.

He led a hell of a final drive and threw a near-perfect pass to.....almost win that game. Hard not to like both cat qbs IMO.

I just hope someone gets on the same page as the receivers. Otherwise it is going to be a long year and we will be lucky to finish 5th in the BSC.

Both of those kids are class acts. I have absolutely nothing but good things to say for the type of person the Mellott kid is.

Chambers was a yard or so off on his pass, though. Definitely past the LOS when he threw it, and significantly so.

Not as seen through kitty rose glasses.

I don't know about you, but i am absolutely thrilled that the referees have picked right up where they left off last season. Theres a head linesman among them for just that reason and yet... I may be a being a bit harsh, he likely had to blow his whistle nine times more than he anticipated given all the false starts.

Did anyone else think Mcd looked a little less confident or maybe more gun shy after the late hit when he slid.

I got the sense that McD was so intent on making the pass plays “happen”, he postponed running when he should have. He seemed hesitant to run the entire game, unlike the first game, where he ran with abandon.

I feel he will be the exact opposite this game. I think he is starting to get a handle on what's expected of him. He knows he fits in on this offense. He will make to most of his chances.

It was a good drive. Sdsu also was completely in prevent defense very willing to give up 10-15-20 yard chunk passes. You or I could have completed those. He’s a good player. He’s not a very good passer. Never has been.

Well, facts are a stubborn thing. They don’t lie! Good post and thanks for being respectful. Those are bad numbers. No way to put lipstick on that pig. Apparently I had one too many watching that game. He looked to have good arm strength and almost had the one in the end zone, which would have made him 4-9. Still horrendous.

Who has the better leadership presence? That’s my quarterback. That was the one thing that had made Humphrey “the guy”. Was he a top tier qb? Most would argue not. But, the team was noticeably more fluid when he was in. He was confident/took command, composed, managed his huddle well, and the team followed suit. That’s who will ultimately be my qb, I haven’t quite seen the confidence in either qb to convince me of one over the other. Hopefully this FS game will give us some answers, I’ve a feeling one of these guys will need to step-up or we are in trouble.

No worries at all. I think it was deceiving because on that last drive, he orchestrated a pretty good drive down the field with a number of completed passes while the other team was in a prevent defense. So I get it as it made him look good

Extremely deceiving. MSU had 87 yards passing for the game and over half of those yards (45) came on that last drive with SDSU way off the ball in prevent allowing those underneath routes relatively uncontested.

Bingo!

I find it odd that this entire discussion is of QB accuracy. and running ability. I question Pass protection, Receivers inability to Read coverage and find open spaces, and our passing attack scheme. I could not believe how we threw into double coverage regularly, or our QB running out of the pocket and having to dump the ball anywhere to avoid a sack, Hopefully these will be addressed and corrected or we are in for a long season. A life long Griz
