Who's your pick for RB?

I watched Mcombs in the fall last season and was really impressed. The offense really struggled and he was about the only back who made it past the line of scrimmage.....the entire time. I bet Mcombs and Phillips will really turn some heads. Can't wait to see all the others as well.

Just too many injuries I'm guessing? Otherwise he's a former 4 star who started as a freshman at FBS before blowing acl again.

I know it's not likely with Stitt's offense, but it sure would be nice to see a 1,000 yard rusher again. Who was our last one? Chase? It would sure open things up a bit more. I know Stitt likes to use multiple backs-using the best one for certain situations-but it would be great to have "the guy" to go to.

Stitt has said in his early press conferences that he expects to have a 1000 yard rusher. Despite the air attack tendency he wants the best O-line in the country and wants to run the ball. If Calhoun stays healthy I think he will have 1000 yards rushing 1500 all purpose yards.

As a cat fan, Calhoun scares me. That dude is good and I never got Stitt's using of Nguyen more last year. I don't think we knew enough about Calhoun to say it was to save him from injuries. Cat/griz was a different game when he was in. Last game, need to win, so saving him shouldn't be a factor.
That is but one of Stitt's deployments that makes us scratch our heads in wonderment. Certainly, late in the year Calhoun was on thin ice having had multiple concussions, but earlier in the year? Nguyen was given credit for being a better pass blocker, but without a top end he doesn't scare defenses running the ball; could be knocked down with the swat of a hand. Defaults east to west, while Calhoun runs north to south and gets into the end zone.

John Nguyen had lots of faults. Getting knocked down with the swat of a hand wasn't one of them. I saw that dude literally almost get his head ripped off on a face mask and still got about 5 yards on that play. LOTS of times he drug players, pushed the pile, etc., etc. Did he go down when four guys blew through the O-line and hit him in the backfield? Sure...but I don't think it's an accurate statement to say he was easy to bring down.

I agree and was thinking the exact same thing when he said that. Pound for pound for probably one of the toughest guys on team
Don't disagree with that, could not have competed if he wasn't very tough, with his size. But he was arm tackled often in close quarters, not the open field. The fans with such a buddy love affair with the Nguyens must have Napoleonic complexes. They were good role players, never in the league of feature backs like Reynolds, Hilliard, Green or Humphrey.

Did he run sideways at the hole and wind up losing 6 yards instead of putting his head down and taking the two yard gain? Those tackles were not gang tackles. Would have been worth the gamble had he the speed to outrun defenders on the perimeter. But those losses were often drive stoppers.

Well, I don't have a buddy love affair with him, and I'm 6'2", 270 so no Napoelon complex here...just that the kid gave his heart, soul and body to this team for the entertainment of fans and to bash him now seems just a taaaad disengenuous and completely unnecessary. Nobody has EVER compared him to Reynolds, Hilliard, Green, or Humphrey, but then again three of those four had long careers in the freaking NFL..so yeah, if THAT'S our standard then you're gonna be disappointed a lot.

Yeah definitely not great. The conviction looks really bad but I'm sure there is some context there. He was 19 at the time and the girls were between 15 and 17. Because they were minors don't know their exact age but if they were 17 and he was 19 it's a little different. I'm sure the coaches will look into that matter and his knee if he's serious about coming here.

All I have seen is that coach Green is following him and coach Green follows any FBS transfer back. Green has told me that it is more difficult to recruit FBS transfers unless you have a previous connection or they have an interest in coming.

I am excited about Jeremy Calhoun, I hope he stays healthy, he's top-notch.

Without having seen any action this spring (yet), I have a hard time believing Tre' Favors won't contribute in this his SR season. Reason being, he looked really good running the ball last spring to me, and reports have been that's he's bulked up even more. Sounds like he's hungry and capable to me. We shall see, I hope so though. I like to see seniors go out with a bang.

Every coach in the country would like to be able to have a 1000 yd rusher behind the best O-Line in the country.

Talk is cheap. I believe we really need an O-Line that can pass block, RB's that can catch the ball, and one RB that can get those tough 1-2 yds on the goal line so we don't have to use our QB there all the time.

Coach Stitt values running backs. Heck, he was running back himself in college. And, he had several 1000 yard rushers at Mines along with a bunch that had 11-18 TDs a season.
