Who's headed to VA?

So psyched for this game. It will be one of the 2 biggest (of only 5) home games. Chicken JMU Bagged LU, so Coastal and Montana are the only 2 quality home games. They did fill that game with a good one, SIU, but it's away.

Bring back Sam Rutigliano and I might consider attending the game...

Great to hear some guys are coming. For Bama. Not sure when single game tix go on sale but I think it's a ways yet. I'll try to post when I hear. As far as history, it's all over around here. The best spot is the Appomattox battle ground where Lee surrendered in the civil war. Then on to Lexington where VMI is and Lee and stonewall Jackson lived. As far as the mountains go, the blue ridge parkway and the peaks of otter or a short drive away as well.

You should probably ask everyone there to not fly any rebel flags while Montana is down there, these guys have a problem with history and such.

Should be fun, but then again we always have fun on these trips.

The Civil War era is pretty abstract for a Montana kid - it just didn't figure too prominently in Montana history, except that most of the first miners into Montana Territory after the Civil War were expat rebels. Its incredible to see those battlefields. Chikamauga was awesome, Tennessee was awesome. I cant wait to visit the battlefield sites around Lynchburg.
Actually, Montana played a VERY prominent role in the Civil War. Gold was discovered at Alder Gulch near Virginia City Montana on May 26,1863 by Bill Fairweather (right dab smack in the middle of the Civil War). This is the largest placer gold deposit EVER discovered with 10 million dollars in gold being taken out in the first year alone. This money was used to fund the Union war effort and many believe this discovery changed the tide of the war for the North. If you are ever in Nevada City in the summer, check out the living history exhibits they have. There are some old timers who will tell you all about it. Then, go to the Bale of Hay for a beer and check out the Brewery Follies in Virginia City they are quite good.

The Appomattox surrender grounds are incredible... I wish it wasn't a short visit, I could spend an entire day there

I'd love to go to this game. Finances and time off work are another story though. :thumb:
