Who will be the next UM Coach...

Hauck. Bring back Bobby-Ball. While I didn't always like the way he handled the media etc., I did like the style. Those teams were always tough as nails...and built for deep playoff runs. Baldwin and Hauck are both proven Head Coaches...with respect for the Griz brand and traditions. I think the new-blood deal is over-rated. Continuity with the program and recruiting is much more important. I'd take either or, but given the choice - I choose Hauck.

I do miss the type of disciplined, tough football we played on both sides of the ball with BH. Many on this board have a real problem with the fact that BH lost 3 national championship games but seriously....those teams were built for the playoffs and holy smokes....did pretty damn well. Does that mean another coach is unable to come in and have similar results?? Of course not but BH is definitely a known commodity that I would be happy to see back in the Zoo.

Pflugrad took the fall, but the problems that we went through were all with players that BH recruited here. Jordy is the only exception that I can think of, and he was acquitted.

I quickly searched for UNLV football off-field incidents and didn't find much. Prior to his arrival at UNLV however, issues were off the charts. Fair enough that when he was at Montana his teams had a few, but he dealt with those appropriately in my opinion...those players charged and convicted of serious crimes never played again.
Bottom line, sure there may be a perception of smoke, but from my perspective I find no fire. His team's off-the-field incident realities at UNLV should matter - and I couldn't find much to see. AND - we are talking about young men in Vegas.
I just don't see anyone as well credentialed in the list of names in the poll above as Hauck. Perhaps politics of BOR will win out I suppose.

So Hauck has been getting his ass handed to him in Vegas for the last few years. If he hadn't coached here before, would anyone on this board want UM chasing him for the position of head coach? I mean, lots of losing coaches out there to choose from.
Perhaps we should look for a coach who has won recently.
If we're looking for old coaches who bailed on the program for big dollars, why not Joe Glenn. At least he won the chipper and knew the fight song.

Tough to win at UNLV, been discussed as nauseum. Hauck > Glenn. Just my opinion, but very true about the chipper!

Other programs are improving their programs, meanwhile UNLV moves at a snail's pace. Until they get the boosters, community. and state to commit the resources to UNLV it will remain an almost impossible to win at, regardless of who their coach is. What UNLV faces is similar to every Big Sky school not named Montana, EWU, and Montana State. At best, UNLV is an occasional middle of the conference team from time to time. Normally, they are the bottom of the barrel.
Hauck was a damn fine coach for Montana. He will be damn fine coach again at Montana, providing he gets the job again. I have faith in Hauck like no other coach at this level at Montana. To me, Hauck is a no brain decision, and a perfect fit. He will do even better here this time, if he can cut his loyalty to coordinators who are holding the team back. If he brings in a better OC than before (our current staff is better than Phenicie), and has Tim Hauck or Gregorak at DC, defense will be great. Hell even the much too passive Paulsen would have a solid defense here ( I hope Paulsen will not be the DC).
Also, keep in mind Hauck has learned much more while at UNLV. I expect Bobby Hauck 2.0 to be even a better coach at Montana this go around. I am hoping for Bobby Hauck or Pease get the job, unless there is a dark horse we are not hearing about. Personally, I'd love to see Rolovich interview and get the job. :thumb:

Oh BS! There are all kinds of examples of coaches going to shitholes and winning. That's just an excuse UNLV hasn't been nearly as bad as bobby's record there was. He is not the guy we want to get us to where we want to be.mtgrizrule said:

He's made his money. He and is wife are from Missoula, or close by. Some people aren't money hungry and throw quality of life into the equation. He has kids, and you cant beat Montana as a place to raise kids. 200k and live in Missoula Montana? That's good stuff, right there!!
All I know is Montana BETTER hire a head coach that implements a HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE and a STIFILING DEFENSE! Not to mention game changing special teams units.

That is not to indicate that Gregorak and others would not be able to do the same thing.
