Who should Haslam target for the New HC since BK only has a one year contract

I get what you're saying, and it's of course important for them to have strong skills in academics, enrollment and fundraising, but I personally really hope the new president takes a strong interest in and proactive approach towards athletics being the front door of the university and has a vision for what our athletics could become over the next 5-10 years. I think it's pivotal for the success of the entire university to all be on the same page. If they can't handle that or don't want to, then I don't want them as the next president, personally.
Hope you get what you want.

If the program is not accomplishing its goals/objectives, then yeah, the HC is the problem—like it or not. Buck stops there. Not even saying he needed to be replaced, but the buck STILL stops there.

One guy? Different WR coach. Different OL coach. Different RB coach. Different Recruiting coordinator. Different HC. And it wouldn’t surprise me to see Tim Hauck hang it up too…

But yea, basically same staff…???
As I suspected....Tim Hauck is gone too.

And rumor is that BH is taking Cooper and Linehan with him too.

1122: At what point is it not considered essentially the same staff?

Asking for a friend...
👍

Well, it’s certainly more different now lol

Personally, it doesn’t really change the calculus for me re: do we go get a different guy after this season, though.

If they have an excellent season, he’ll likely be back, and if not, they’ll go get someone new.

Is it “fair” to BK? Maybe not, but I don’t really care about being fair, I care about doing what’s best for the program over the next 5 years.

This is beginning to feel similar to the “interim” situation we had with Delaney…… it’s a bit of a cluster right now with all these coaching departures at the absolute worst time. A one year contract is going to be a tough sell to bring in a new defensive coaching staff

BK is kind of getting thrown to the wolves here, and a lot of it is on his "good friend" BH. I don't know how I'd feel about that if I were him.
BK should have the connections from his career to bring in defensive coaches. I mentioned one in another thread that was an assistant at Texas last year, worked with BK at Stanford and Texas, has DC experience at the P4 level at Texas and Arizona. He has mainly been running the 4-2-5 against 11 personnel though so if we are keeping the 3-3-5 base that might not be the best choice. I am sure there are others out there who do have experience with the 3-3-5.

Ya but all the assistants are on one year contracts as well, so if things don't work out then they can all get out next year.

Tyler Roehl
"Tyler Roehl is back in Ames.

The former Iowa State assistant coach under Matt Campbell spent last season with the Detroit Lions and is returning as ISU's offensive coordinator under new coach Jimmy Rogers.

We obtained a copy of Roehl's contract. It went into effect on Jan. 5, 2026 (The day after the Detroit Lions' final game of the season). It runs through Jan. 31, 2029.

Roehl will earn a $1 million salary in 2026. With satisfactory performance, his salary increases to $1.1 million on Feb. 1, 2027 and to $1.2 million Feb. 1, 2028." Ames newspaper a few days ago.

Roehl loves the Montana program and might have been available in the past before he went to ISU but we can't afford him anymore. Roehl wasn't going to come back to ISU when he was offered he told Rodgers he would have to double his current salary and a few days later Rodgers called back and said Done, when can you be here.
