Who should Haslam target for the New HC since BK only has a one year contract

Right, but despite there having been even more roster turnover and some replacement of coaches from 2024 to 2025, no one would argue it's a different staff/different team, and the expectations followed from that.

It's true, the HC is a big change. No argument from me. I'm hoping BK changes some things up that we've all been varying degrees of frustrated over.

But I just view it as "what's different now that wouldn't have been if Hauck had decided to coach this year?"

Hauck hired Meyers, so he wouldn't. The RB, OL, and recruiting coordinator would all have to be replaced, and it wouldn't shock me if we already have had ideas on who we want from before Bobby decided to leave. And as of right now (maybe not for long, though), the roster is the exact same as it would have been.

So you're right, it is different, but not because of the coaching change, which is how I view it. If things change even more from now, I might amend my stance.

Okay, but I'm not sure it's worth spending much time on whether the changes are because of the head coach change or not. I didn't play close attention to what you and AZ were discussing, but I agree with both of you, as I understand what you were saying. Again, my view is that the biggest change may be that NDSU may be gone.

You're right, I'm going around in circles on stuff that ultimately doesn't matter right now.

BK and his staff deserve our full support.

It was just a hypothetical situation, for fun. I think Kennedy is going to be around for a while, especially if he is remotely successful, which just became more of a reality with NDSU popping smoke and jumping to the MWC. Now UM SDSU and MSU just became the main players for the FCS NC.

I just think asking any coach to go 11-1 in his first year is a big ask. Plus, the schedule is much harder (IMHO) this year than last. I mean, if he goes 9-3 (losses to Oregon St, MSU and one other) and into the quarters or semi's is that good enough?

As CDA would say....only time will tell.

I would think that BK and Haslam must have had some kind of conversation about expectations for this year and future contract possibilities. At least I would hope so anyway. Most people would want a little more leeway and/or a little more time to prove their worth before facing the chopping block. Unless what Haslam is telling BK isn't the entire truth and he plans to replace him no matter what. I guess we'll all find out at the end of the season.

Nope. But Ill had 2 secondary/d-back coaches, one of which was the DC who left. I think Tim likes living in MT, but maybe he is game for another challenge.

I think some people are speculating since his contract is up this summer, and there's been no news (yet) of an extension.

Coupled with the new president coming in, he/she may want to bring in their own AD.

Okay, but none of that makes sense regarding a new AD. When does an FCS president ever bring in a new AD?

Notably recently WAZZU's new president came in and fired their AD a few months after taking the job and a month before Rogers left for Iowa State. I know Cruzado ended up firing Peter Fields over disagreements on who would follow Rob Ash, although that was years after both had been at MSU.

Presumably in a situation like ours, where the current AD's contract is set to expire, if the new president wanted someone who aligns with their vision for athletics (assuming Haslam doesn't), they could choose to not renew Kent and instead hire someone new.

If we ultimately don't extend Kent Haslam, and there's no indication as of this moment that we have, they'd have to bring someone new in, anyway.

But maybe you've heard something on a potential extension of Halsam.

I've heard nothing. I can't imagine a new president at this level would not re-up Haslam. I can't imagine that UM will hire a president who knows much about athletics. I assume the new president will have his/her hands full with the academic, enrollment, and fund-raising. Why take on athletics too? The criticism of Haslam may not be a dumb as the criticism of Hauck, but in that direction.

I get what you're saying, and it's of course important for them to have strong skills in academics, enrollment and fundraising, but I personally really hope the new president takes a strong interest in and proactive approach towards athletics being the front door of the university and has a vision for what our athletics could become over the next 5-10 years. I think it's pivotal for the success of the entire university to all be on the same page. If they can't handle that or don't want to, then I don't want them as the next president, personally.

It’s like the old saying goes: Athletics are the front porch to the University. It may not be the most important part of the house, but it’s the first thing everyone sees!
