Who is visiting this weekend?

Growler, I rarely ever post, and I usually only do it when someone as f***[*] stupid as you out-does yourself. First of all, if you watch the video, there's one or two shots he makes at around 6 or 8 feet showing nice touch. Second, oh youre shocked at a recently turned 18 year old 7 footer mostly dunks and shoots layups in a highschool basketball game? Third, 7 foot highschoolers dont "create" shots! Guards do! 7 footers convert them you retard! The only 7 footer that I can even think of that creates shots is dirk nowitzki. If this kid could create shots at 18 yrs old and 7 ft. tall, shoot outside the key and had much of an offensive game outside dunks and lay ups, hed be signed with kentucky for his freshman year waiting for the nba draft the next year. Furthermore, freddie owens seems to think he has some ability, and maybe we could take a poll here at egriz...freddie owens vs. growler1 spotting basketball recruits...

anxiously awaiting your comeback, small fry...

Here's a 5-minute "best of" video clip of young Mr. Martin's senior year:

Thanks for the link.
I like the looks of this kid. He seems to move good and he used his off hand without a problem. Put a little muscle on him and he could be a good one.
Anyone know who else is after him or what he thought of his visit here?

I hear we are competing with Cal Poly and Cal Davis, at least so far.

Martin got some interest last spring with South Dakota coming close to signing him. He had a very nice summer and started to get some more attention. He is considered a project but with a very big upside. Mobile seven footers with decent lateral movement are not easy to find. He will be attending a prep school in Milwaukee this year and will have a four years plus a redshirt starting in 2012-13.

Hope he comes here. Is already a very good player and has the potential to be an outstanding player. Thanks to MGR for calling him to our attention. MCat seemed to be a bit off course on this one.

All I saw were dunks and lay-ins. where is his ability to create a shot, or to score from more than 3 feel away from the rim?

He's a 7 foot center. Seems like you know about as much about basketball that you do football.

Know it’s a highlight video, but the kid runs the floor well and appears to have decent athleticism, good hands, and good feet. The real question is whether he can develop and the gain the strength to be able to hold his own physically.

How dare egriz have too many openminded, benefit of the doubt posters. :thumb:
Do post more though, Case. Especially if you like basketball!!! Basketball is actually close to sane, more often than not. :thumb:

Look, asswipe, my mother has forgotten more about basketball than you know. This kid is a typical slow, white 7-footer who has no offensive skills beyond dunks and lay-ins, if this video is any indication of his skills. I will use your obvious argument to validate my point. 7-footers don't grow on trees. If this kid had skills, Montana would never get a shot at signing him.

Sorry to burst the bubble of all of you maroon-kool-aid-dreamers who think every kid Tinkle recruits is the next coming of Krysto or Sugar Ray. I deal in reality, not pipe dreams. Uh, one more thing casewinter.....GFY!

It is too early to tell how good this kid will or won't be. I do not see a slow 7' footer, and I did see very good hands, and agilility for his height.

The few times he shot from beyond a few feet, he looked fluid, and not awkward. Believe it or not, an occasional good big does reside in the BSC. Granted they are few and far between, but Qvale certainly was good enough to go elsewhere. We did not land him because he was not good, and others did not want him. Many years ago we had our run of PF/C that were better than average bigs. LK,Tinkle, McBride, and Engellant come to mind.

Just because a tall lanky kid is not going to a big conference program, does not mean he will be no good. Yet, it also does not assure how he will be. If he comes here, we just have to wait and see. I know I won't have many expectations for any big until they are Juniors. I have a feeling, with Hutch and Reader ahead of him, he will have time to develop physically, and skills wise.

Uuummm... Brian Qvale?????? You effing moron. Oh ya, he was only 6' 11".

FYI Tanner Samson a 6-4 shooting guard from Colorado just committed to Elon. This surprised me. Most I talked with thought the Griz main competition for his services was Pepperdine. Now could someone please tell me where Elon is!?

Elon is in North Carolina (had to look it up.. I had no freakin idea either). Joined Div1 for the 1999-2000 season, and has had one above .500 season since (2005-2006). Has had multiple 20+ loss seasons though. Wonder if came down to something where he wanted to play right away and thought he had a better chance of playing as a true freshman for Elon than Pepperdine or the Griz?

As always, thanks for keeping us informed on recruiting mslacat :thumb:

Hmm, that is somewhat surprising. Elon is in a beautiful part of the country, but of course, so is Pepperdine. Makes me wonder if there isn't a family connection to either Elon or North Carolina.

Hopefully coach pulls head out of sumo butt and recruits some Filipino's this year. Filipino Michael Jordan is 17 years and in Makati (Metro Manilla) and I know him well.

Have you or the "Filipino Michael Jordan" bothered to contact Tinkle to express an interest in the Grizzly program? Sent him a tape by chance? As the Grizzly coaches undoubtedly do a great job of identifying potential prospects, it would not surprise me if they missed a potential recruit located in Metro Manilla.

Just a thought.

GFY. Qvale played in total obscurity is Western N.D. And, he was Selvig's buddy. That's the ONLY reason we got him. Gain some smarts before calling people morons who know much more than you do about the game of BB.

Qvale wasn't playing in obscurity in Williston. He was being recruited, and I believe offered, by better schools than Selvig, altho Selvig was getting recruiting by multiple schools too. Yes, they were friends. This possible package deal was what kept LK from offering Bobby Howard sooner, altho Tinkle belatedly offered Howard in the morning before he was announced at the new UM head coach. I wonder if Qvale's younger brother who plays o-line at Nebraska was playing unknown in obscurity in western ND. I see that G1 continues to make up stuff and make dumb comments, even on the hoops board.

Except for that Washington State, Boise State, Idaho, Wyoming, Wichita State, etc etc offered him...

Yeah... obscurity...

Just admit it.. Tinkle is a hell of a recruiter, and had the Griz BB program headed in the right direction. He is excellent at developing big men, and really..what better guy for a post player to learn from than one of the Griz Greats who played professionally overseas for many years?
