Which WAC school offered Jack a scholarship? Football or basketball?

As of last Tuesday or so Washington State offered Jack. Oregon State also called the first of the week I am told and asked for video. Montana has also started to call Jack after discontinueing contact weeks back, and I hear they want to try to set up another "contact" to discuss changes in their recruitng priorities. I am very curiuos to see if Stew Morril stops by the McGillis house hole while he is in Missoula for the award Banquet. A quite period is aproaching, if already not hear already, meaning coaches can to "talk" to athletes.

As of now, three-star 2005 prospect Jack McGillis is still committed to attend Washington as a recruited walk-on. In recent days, however, the 6-foot-6, 195-pound shooting guard from Hellgate High School in Missoula, Mont., has received some serious interest from some other Pac-10 schools.

"I'm getting some offers, but I'm still committed to Coach Romar," said McGillis. "I just got an offer from Washington State, and Eastern Kentucky has a scholarship available for me. Oregon State has just started to show some strong interest, too. They asked for some game tape a couple days ago.

"But, as of now, I'm still committed to Coach Romar. He said they didn't have a scholarship for me, but he wanted me to be a part of the team and that I'd have a great chance to earn one next year. Coach Romar definitely wants me. He doesn't typically do this with walk-ons. He's been so good to me, and he is definitely one of the classier guys I've been around."

Despite his admiration and respect for Coach Romar and the Washington program, the possibility of a free college education is still very alluring to McGillis. Although he claims that Washington State and Eastern Kentucky are not options for him, Oregon State just might be an option if they were to offer a scholarship.

"It would take a school with the right academics, the right city, the right coach and a full ride for me not to go to Washington," he said. "I am intrigued with Oregon State. Their program is on the up and up. Corvalis is a nice place, and I've always liked the state of Oregon. We will just see what happens next. Things definitely are intensifying."

At 6-foot-6 and still growing, McGillis is coming off a very successful senior campaign where he averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. He was first in the state in both field goal percentage and three-point percentage at 63 percent and 51 percent respectively. He also shot 87 percent from the free throw line.

Certainly a very good shooter, McGillis does need to gain strength and improve his athleticism, but with his growth plates still open, he hopes to eventually grow to 6-foot-8.

No mention of the GRIZ :( .

************ Rumor Alert ***********

I am told the Krysco called Jack's cell phone right after he got off the phone with Oregon State last week. Jack recognized the number and did not answer, instead let the voice mail get it. Never returned the call.

Last month there were several comments on this board to the effect, that Jack had not received enough LOVE from Krysco.

Now that Jack has more options and LOVE, I suspect that the Griz will have the wrong academics, or are in the wrong city, or have the wrong coach.

I wish the only the best of luck to Jack.

Did the Griz offer Jackie Macgillis a scholarship? NO! So why would we care if he received a scholarship offer to Wazzu. I think we have an upset family member on this board blowing smoke about this subject. The way I am reading into this subject is like this, The Mcgillis family and friends are upset that Krysko didn't recruit him to play for the Griz. We understand your pain, but Who cares about the Pac-10.

What a idiotic reply no offense. The point the original poster was trying to make is..If Jack is good enough to get offers from a power league, then wtf was montana not doing offering a player from their own state who got offers from better leagues. Now Wazzu is nothing to get excited about..but they do have dick bennett..and Oregon State is going to be very good in the future.

Who in the hell cares if Krysko called Jack and he did not pick up???The point is we did not offer him a schollie and will not be offering him a schollie in any form. The coaches do not think that Jack is a markedly different or better player than Hasquet, thus they want to fill the remaining schollies with positions of need.

On another note, I am hearing pretty solid rumors that we landed a VERY GOOD big man in Oz. I guess we will see what happens.

IT means that we supposedly landed a very good big man in Australia, where Larry was recruitng with the assistance of Luc Longley. Nothing is confirmed yet, but a coaching source of mine in another college program said that the word is out that the griz landed a big time player down unda'.

I wish Jack well wherever he ends up. For someone so into Lorenzo Romar he sure is loving the attention of the other schools isn't he. He is committed but taking a "wait and see" attitude. Oh to be young and confused.

Oh come on, thats not fair on the kid and you know it. Romar gave him a walk-on spot, Oregon State might offer him a full ride. Its not like he has signed a LOI for romar.

Hey at least he turned down full rides from E.Kentucky and Wazzu.

Holy batshit suicide, couldn't you tell it was tongue in cheek by the oh to be young and confused comment. lighten up

What an unbelievable statement.

Why don't you keep smoking that Missoula ganj?

Good luck against PSU, MSU and all of the Big Sky schools.

I always enjoy watching you guys play but show some respect for the "legit" conference of champions.

UM had a great year last year and played a great game against an awesome UW team that didn't play that well that day, but still creamed your a$$.

No, it would appear that Jack would not get much playing time, but who knows.

Certainly, you can't think that anyone has had a better track record in the last 3 years of finding players that no one thought were top shelf.

Let's look at Tre Simmons, Nate Robinson and Will Conroy for starters.

I think Jack should take his shot at UW for two years and see if Romar is right.

He'll be playing, at least in practice, against and with some of the best players in the west in Roy, Bobby Jones, Jensen, Jamaal, Joel Smith, Appleby, Brockman, Perry Jr., etc.

Next year UW will likely bring in a legit Center prospect (7' Spencer Hawes), who is much like Andrew Bogut and another top 10 class nationally.

If he can make it in that mix, he'll have a solid shot at a career in basketball if he wants.

If he doesn't, he will likely get a great education, exposure to another side of life in Seattle and a ride from another school.

It would be tempting to take a ride from a WSU, OSU or some other Pac-10 school, but UW is building something great which should be at the top of all the programs in this part of the country and like Sinatra said if he can "make it there" he'll make it anywhere.
