Who else thinks Favre will return to play for the Vikings?

I have a hunch it's going to happen. Brett just can't let it go. His competitive juices will start flowing here in a couple months. The Vikings will make a financial offer he can't refuse. Why else would he ask for his release from the Jets a couple days ago? Plus, his statement that he is retired "at this time"?

Where there is smoke there is fire.

He's coming back.

It was hard enough to watch him in a Jets uniform. It would be unbearable to see him in Viking gold and purple.

I think it would be classic.

All of the Vikings fans who couldn't stand Favre for all those years, now having to root for him!!!

Truthfully, I hope he just stays retired. He shouldn't have come back last year.

What a joke....

I think the #4 jersey is going to be put away for a while if he signs with the Vikings. This is really tarnishing in legacy in my eyes...

ReMax, it's looking more and more like it's gonna happen. I would bet on it now. I think his ultimate motive is to rub Thompsons face in it. He's gonna pocket 7 or 8 million for one season, so I guess you can't fault him for that.

I'm a Chiefs fan, so I have no interest either way. But I have always been a huge BF fan, just because I love the way he played the game. This could put the Vikings in the Super Bowl, IMO.

I've grown up a Pack fan, (with the exception when I was an impressionable young kid and cheered for Joe Montana and the 49ers), and this really stinks. Like many kids I didn't follow the NFL with a similar passion that I do now, once I started catching games most every Sunday it was watching Brett and the Pack, I've really only known this team with him at QB. Which is probably why I'm so pissed about this.

First off, I think it was time for him to go, he proved it the next year with the Jets, Aaron Rogers is the future, had the better season statistically with a bum shoulder and no running game. Favre held the team hostage for years teasing retirement and then changing his mind. The last time Thompson knew that if last year he allowed Brett back then Rogers would walk (08 was his contract year), then the Pack goes back 5 steps while having to draft or find a new QB, and waiting years for him to progress.

I don't think this helps the Vikings much, it could help them with the North... maybe, but if the Pack stays healthy I think they're a much better team than the 'queens.

- Brett's been notoriously bad in the Metrodome his whole career. Domes in general for that matter (yes there's exceptions, super bowl and 2007).

- On astroturf I wonder if he'll get hurt.

- This could tear the Vikings apart as stories suggested what happened with the Jets last year.

- Who's he going to throw to? His style fits best with smart, VERY speedy, and sure handed WRs. Berrian and Ward drop tons of passes, while Berrian is fast, he's not reliable. Harvin's a rookie, while a good WR, I can't imagine him being a #1 or #2 this year, and Rice or Glenn Holt? They're not great WRs. The Pack's WR corps was/is a very speedy and talented unit, the best catch and run unit in the game. Many of 2007's long pass plays, big plays, and huge TDs were actually short passes that Driver/Jennings/Jones busted out for a big gain.

-----------

I dunno, this upsets me, I'm a Pack fan before a Favre fan - it sucks to see the one NFL player that was/is my hero considering this.

I am as big of a Packer fan as anyone. And I never thought I would say this, but I am tired of hearing about Brett Favre. He rode off into the sunset a couple of years ago didn't he?

From an SI article today:

So let me get this straight: Favre still has a partially torn biceps in his throwing arm, hasn't worked out at all this offseason, turns 40 in October, and lost four of his final five starts last season, throwing nine interceptions, two touchdowns, with a passer rating of 55.4?

Yeah, I can see why the Vikings would jump all over him.

Hmmmmmm lets see. Tavaris Jackson or Brett Favre? Hmmmmmmmmm. Ok.

Here is an idea. I know there are tons and tons of downside to Favre coming back but what if he does come back, with the Vikings, and wins a championship? Would all of the downside and last couple of years be forgiven instantly? Not in Green Bay, but all other fans?

Report: Favre to remain retired

I won't believe that until september. He'll get the itch, may take till august but I'll bet he plays this fall.

Now the report is he'll be in purple if he doesn't need shoulder surgery... wow...

Welcome, rest of the NFL world, what we Pack fans have gone through for the past 5 years, every off-season he says me "might" be done, is leaning towards retirement, not sure if there's much more to play for, blah, blah, blah. Then he comes back.

Colin Cowherd had a good joke on the radio about the 5 seasons, summer, fall, winter, spring, and Favre. There's just that time of the year and you wonder what Favre's going to be up to today.

Brett, Thanks for a great, even legendary career. Please learn from Elway. "Stay Retired!" If "retirement" or "retired" is not in vocabulary, look at is as graduating from the NFL. This coming from a Favre fan without allegiance to the Packers or Vikings.

I think it would be great to see him go into Lambeau this fall and rub Thompsons nose in it and light up Rodgers and the Pack. The drama would be well worth watching the week before the game.

If he wants to play and is healthy, then why not? It's his right and he doesn't owe a damn thing to the people whining about him playing again.

And again, the thought of the holier than though Vikings fans having to suck it up and shell out $75.00 for a #4 Vikings Favre jersey would be priceless!!!!!

Just as priceless will be hardcore Packer fans rooting against Brett.

In what comes as a shock to absolutely no one, Brett Favre announced today that he will attempt to play for all 32 NFL teams during the upcoming 2009 football season. His only stipulation so far is that he must be named the starter for any and all clubs he would play for. Favre, who hates the media and is more emotional than a teenage girl that just saw The Notebook, held a press conference via cell phone text message earlier this afternoon.
Minutes into his press conference, the former Packer legend was insulted when Ed Werder from ESPN sent him a text that read:
"How u going 2 start 4 32 teams in 16 games, math doesn't add up?!?"
Favre annoyingly answered Werder's question by pointing out that if he plays one half of football each week for a different team, then his goal would be highly attainable. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell then immediately sent out a mass text to the media elaborating on what was surely going to be the next question:
"Can a player be legally traded at halftime of a game?"
According to Goodell, the answer is yes. However, Goodell did note that if the answer actually isn't yes, then he would make it yes 'as soon as humanly possible.'
John Clayton, who was reporting from a trash can on Favre's driveway, sent in this text:
"2 questions, rumors say you were going 2 Vikings and do u think a 7-year-old girl could take me in a fist fight?"
Favre answered that one with, "Yes, the Vikings were an option, but then I thought, 'We all know that I'm not retiring until I play for all 32 teams except for the Lions, so why not just get it all over with in one season.' So that's what I'm going to do and to answer your second question, if the young girl was crippled, blindfolded or sleeping, you might have a chance."
Twelve minutes into the interview, the press conference abruptly ended when Favre changed his mind and decided he didn't want to have a press conference anymore. Seconds after the press conference concluded, Favre reportedly killed his cat because he decided he likes dogs better.
