Who are UM's peers?

PlayerRep said:
Again, I've said UM should look at a MWC offer if one ever fell out of the sky. However, I can't imagine that UM could finance that big of a move--especially if UM wanted to spend the money necessary to be competitive.
It's all a moot point anyhow; a MWC offer will not come to UM. There are candidates that show the will and desire to vie for any openings that could come and UM is not one of them. So take comfort in your continuing enjoyment of watching UM play in front of 4000 on the road in a conference concocted by and run by the genius of Fullerton.

Agreed. You make your own luck, and UM has made it plainly obvious that they aren't prepared to take the necessary steps to be ready to vie for any future openings.

Apparently there was a "move up advocate" meeting in which advocates were instructed to be passive- aggressive. But wait, I'm a move up advocate and I didn't get the memo.

What do you think UM should be doing to prepare, beyond what it is doing now? Other than planting Money Trees that money would grow on?

Kem, I watch and enjoy the games and the teams on the field. I love the UM home crowd and home games, but I don't watch or care about the crowd at road games, whether I'm watching on tv or in person. I like the competition. I like to watch the development of the Griz and its players. I like to watch some of opposing team's players. I love the playoffs. I love watching sports, whether little kids, high school, college or professional. I've never been to a game that I didn't enjoy. I even enjoy games when my team loses, although not as much as wins. I find it odd that some of you don't seem to be able to enjoy sport, and sports of all levels.

I doubt that many on here ever played harder or were more competitive than I was on the field. I love to win, but I also know that no one wins all its games and losses can be just as important as wins. As I've said before, I believe that how you play the game (and absorb losses) is more important than winning. In my view, how the game is played at levels below FBS is generally better than FBS. The money and demands of FBS, especially the Big 5, and the related culture, has impacted the game in a negative manner, again in my view.

Honestly, I'm not sure. But lots of other schools have figured it out. And none EVER move back, so there must be some magical money tree out there that we're simply not aware of...

Hire BH as special teams coach so the big money donors help the transition?

UM's Peers... are there any? Not in Montana anyways...

Yeah, MSU is so far ahead of UM in research and actual STEM degrees that will get a real job, the UM is in the 2nd tier with Montana Tech and Carroll!

As far as your peer schools, looking up to Idaho, UND, MSU, and NDSU. SDSU, NMSU, and USD are at your level. That would make a good core of an FBS conference. Throw in UC Davis, Cal Poly for higher academics and recruiting and Portland St, EWU, and Sac St for bigger cities and maybe UM can aspire to it.

This post was one of the most honest in this dumpster fire of a thread, so I thought I would give it a BUMP. I can't believe I'm saying this, but PR is correct, and his research and numbers are sound. Everrettgriz you sound more dumb than usual and should stop commenting in this thread. Your delusional views about the grizzz have become full retard. I recommend that you log off of egriz for a period of no less than 3 months and seek out the company of a female. Perhaps CDA? I'm sure she has plenty of time since she got fired from the Town Pump and kicked out of the house.

If you are going to look at research activity, here is a link to Montana's peers. And, yes, MSU is in the top tier.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_research_universities_in_the_United_States

However, I would like to point out that Kent State university is in the second tier with Montana. Yet, I guarantee that Kent State does more research than MSU and UM combined. Indeed, your computer screen tech (LCD) was developed at Kent State.

After the Big Boys are done doing what they do, then possibilities open up for everyone else. Something along the lines of Kems prediction could develop. Got to remember Montaña polítics will have a role in the final outcome. The Griz are just a flea on the dogs back. Where the Griz go, the cats are sure to follow.

Kem's conference maybe but that is also doubtful. The MWC schools, and probably sunbelt schools, will still offer 85 full ride scholarships and still pay full cost of attendance no matter what happens so they can try and compete with the P5. Yes those games will still be scheduled no matter what happens as the P5 will never give up 7-8 home games. So either way Montana won't join anything with the MWC schools in it even after a separation unless you come up with some serious coin.

Simply wishful thinking to think everything is going to collapse and fall back to your level of funding.

Spanky said:
That would be a disaster if Kem is correct.
I'm just more of a realist than you. It's far better than where we are today. There is little point in holding out hopes for a MWC invite to UM and little point holding out hope for an acceptance if it came.
