Which visiting players have had the best game in Wa-Griz?

VA threw for 450+ and 6tds in 2013...can't imagine many players had better games than that...

That was the game he flattened Tripp on a blindside block too, wasn't it?

Ya...it was...they had been talking too each other all game and VA saw his opportunity. Those two were great competitors...

Exactly. I cried in my beer from that one :)

Eastern fans have felt the same way against the Griz and their studs far too many times...

That is the exact type of gritty, tough, hard nosed defense I hope TG can bring to the Cats!!

This is a topic that would be of equal interest in the BB forum. We once had a streaker who made a large impression on the crowd ... not sure if he was a local boy or a visitor, however.

VA in '13 and Vincent Jackson are as good as they come. I remember watching Jackson just flat out dominate any CB the Griz put on him that game.

Home or away neither Jackson nor Barden proved they were anywhere near the "men among boys" like Randy Moss did in the 1996 title game against Marshall. Paired with QB Eric Kresser Moss hung 220 yards and 4 TD's on the Griz. The two Florida and FSU ringer transfers owned the game.

That game wasn't in WA Griz, so if we're going that route, you have to include Greg Hardin in 2012. 333 yards and 3 TDs in Grand Forks.

Anyone remember this guy.........Daryl Brown....188 yards rushing in Delaware's 1993 49 - 48 road win vs. Griz in a very cold (and pretty loud) first round playoff game. The guy couldn't be stopped. Big strong fullback and with his power style and Delaware's Michigan-like helmets you'd have thought he was a Wolverine and not a Blue Hen.

Delaware ran the option almost exclusively. Ironically they won on a long pass play after Griz had taken a 48 (missed the 7th and most critical PAT)- 42 lead. Todd Erickson from Butte jumped about 1/4 second too early to bat the pass away and the receiver waltzed in.

That was a game! 14 TD's and 13 PAT's!

I'd list Jeff Ogden in the top five:

Eastern Washington Ends Montana Streak

October 19, 1997

Harry Leons passed for 424 yards and four touchdowns, helping Eastern Washington end Montana's 30-game home winning streak, 40-35, on Saturday at Missoula, Mont.

Montana ranked second in NCAA Division I-AA, took a 28-20 lead on an eight-yard pass from Brian Ah Yat to Jeremy Watkins with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

But No. 20 Eastern Washington scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Leons hit Jeff Ogden on touchdown pass plays of three and 67 yards, and Mike MacKenzie scored on a one-yard run to give the Eagles a 40-28 lead with 1:56 left.

The Grizzlies scored on a eight-yard pass from Ah Yat to Travis Walker in the final minute but Eastern Washington recovered Montana's onside kick.

Eastern took a 10-0 lead on a 20-yard field goal by Josh Atwood and an 86-yard pass play from Leons to Ogden.

Josh Branen scored for Montana on a seven-yard run, but Eastern Washington built the lead to 17-7 on a 27-yard pass from Leons to Steve Correa late in the first quarter.

The Grizzlies pulled ahead, 21-17, after a 19-yard scoring pass from Ah Yat to Jim Farris and a 74-yard pass play from Ah Yat to Brian Gales with 6:16 left in the second quarter.

Atwood's 19-yard field goal pulled Eastern Washington to within 21-20 at halftime.

Ogden caught six passes for 217 yards and Rex Prescott rushed 27 times for 166 yards as Eastern Washington amassed 658 yards.

Ah Yat completed 27 of 50 passes for 394 yards.

I was at a playoff game against Western Illinois where Russ Michna just shredded a good Griz defense in an upset 2OT win.

I was also at the playoff game in 2000 where the Griz defense shut down an EIU QB named Tom Romo or Tony Gomer or something like that. Whatever happened to that guy? He was kind of hyped by the 1-AA media at the time.

Has probably already been mentioned, but my vote goes to Deleware's entire wing of players..
Ugh - you just made me remember the name Daryl Brown. I had forgotten about him...didn't he pick up like 300 yards that game?

If we count road games I'd put Moss #1 but one that still sting in my mind is Terry Charles of Portland State 12 for 276 and 2td

poorgriz's selective memory just kicked in seeing a photo of Chadron State's Little Danny Woodhead who ran through, around and over the Bobcats. Fortunately, he never played in Wa-Griz or he'd probably head up the list of our most memorable visitors.

I believe it was 2001 Jesse Chatman for EWU (boo). I think he rushed for 200+ yards but Yo out gained him and set the school record of 265. But damn was he just a fast, beast of a running back. He may be the most physically talented RB I ever saw in person.
