Where is trash can Tommy getting drafted?

Mel Kiper the anointed “draft guru” is having a meltdown over how far Sanders has fallen. Makes him look bad.

As to the “character” issue … Mellot is, by all accounts, a fine young man and a credit to his family and the state of Montana. (We can safely ignore the trash can episode.)

From stories that have surfaced, the same cannot be said for Sanders. No one has had the guts to say it openly, but many scouts, etc. see him as, to put it mildly, an arrogant jerk, who would be high maintenance in the clubhouse and on the field. Some of his interviews – when he finally condescended to show up – were apparently disasters. His words and body language said, “You’re lucky to have a chance to draft me. Don’t pass it up.” That would not go over well.

The suspense is over ... drafted by the Browns. On another note, someone (for the Giants) has now gone on record as to why they passed on him.

Seems like that was fairly typical.

I don't agree that NFL teams view that size as tiny. I see that 1 receiver and 2 running backs had more benches that Mellott this year. That receiver was picked in the 3d round today and is 5'11", 194. Same 40 and vertical as Mellott. 3 receivers about Mellott's size were picked in the first 3 rounds. 8 receivers ran their 40's faster than Mellott at the Combine this year. If Mellott can't catch, then never mind.
Don't get me wrong, I totally think Tommy can play and excel in the NFL given the right opportunity. I'm not saying he isn't strong or that his size will prevent him from playing. But for both of those 3rd round receivers, they are considered undersized, which is why they went in the 3rd instead of the 1st or 2nd. They also have extensive college tape playing WR and excelled.

Tommy doesn't have that, and essentially has to learn to play WR after he's picked up by a team. That makes his size matter a lot more. A team might have taken a flyer on him already if he were 6'2" and 215lbs.

Tim, Colt and Edelman are all good examples of guys who excelled despite being small, and I think Tommy can, as well, but they kind of prove my point. 2 of them went undrafted, and Edelman went in the 7th round.

I was objecting to the word “tiny”. I understand undersized.

I think he 100% gets drafted. His Pro Day numbers were off the chart from an athlete perspective. He scored a 9.28 RAS score which shows big time speed, explosiveness, and athleticism. I’m guessing 6th round. Will be a special teams guy early in career and then work into slot receiver and some qb run game (Taysom Hill like)
Nailed it :)
