When will Montana make the playoffs?

I don't care all that much because the Griz usually get blown out and embarrassed. Let me ask this of most of you who are also football fans, and 90% of us football fans would be livid if the Griz didn't make the playoffs two years in a row. How many years should Tinkle have his contract renewed if he can't get the team to the playoffs. 6 years, he's in his 4th year? 9 years? 12 years? 15 years? 18 years? 21 years? How many years will O'Day put up with a playoff drought? And do you think Basketball has taken such a backseat to football here that the AD dept. just doesn't care and considers it a minor sport destined to always lose a ton of cash every year?

Comparing FCS playoffs to the big dance? Really?

Divide the 300+ D-I schools in half and put UM against the bottom 150 and they'd probably be in nearly every year. They're rated 97 out of 347 in the latest RPI.

I would say UM needs to host to help its chances of going to the dance but you made it twice recently when not hosting. I do admit its a bit surprising UM hasn't hosted in 10 yrs and the Griz have had some worthy teams. Also after looking at your recruiting classes last yr and next year I think the Griz are automatic top 3 for the next few years.

FCS playoffs:
13% make it
16 of 125

Big Dance:
18% make it
65 of 347

FBS bowls:
57% make it
68 of 120

Even if the big dance gets expanded to 96 teams its still less than the stupid bowls
28% make it
96 of 347

Unfortunately I think it doesn't matter if Tinks makes the NCAA tourney so long as he is above .500 every season. At least it doesn't matter to O'Day is the feeling I get. I think he gets at least one more contract extension and then if he really doesn't make it, they should look elsewhere, but that may not happen.

Montana needs to step up and not lose to the lower 1/2 of the conference. The Griz have talent and need to play at a high level every night. Can't compare B-Ball to F-Ball...Griz played Washington etc where that never happens in football. Keep the OOC tough and Montana will get there (loved having Duke on the schedule!!)

Health permitting, Tinkle has assembled some unprecedented talent for the GRIZ. We are very good right now, but inconsistent, yet capable of winning the BSC tourney.

Next season, we will struggle some while Jammar and Autry adjust to the collegiate game. I expect come conference next year, this will be a very special team. This providing Jammar sticks with his verbal here. I look forward to seeing what pieces Tinkle adds to this puzzle the next few years. We are a year away from GRIZ basketball being special. FWIW, I am not concerned of AJ moving on. Cherry, Autry, Jamaar, Young, Selvig, Qvale, etc all will only get better.

I am confident of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLAYOFFS!?!?!? PLAYOFFS?!?!?!?!

The real question should be "When will a Tinkle coached Griz team make it past the second round of the Big Sky Conference Playoffs?"

It probably won't be this year and even though everyone is so hyped for next year, imagine what would happen to this team or next year's team if Cherry got hurt and wasn't running the point.

As long as O'Day is here, we can expect solid mediocrity out of the men's BB team.

Dare I say that Tinkle is what is wrong with the University of Montana Athletics. Could that be a correct statement? It doesn't matter how good Montana is every year in basketball. Under Tinkle, they always choke. Who's with me... FIRE TINKLE!!!

Hey, Biff, I like your video, Butthead.

hey BIFF open your eyes realize what your talking about. First and foremost Tinkle should not be fired and any time a coach wins 18+ games in a season there is something to be said, they will probably end up winning 20+!

also understand where you are at in terms of geography, it is hard to recruit at the university of montana because of its location and proximity to surrounding things. I think Tinks has done a great job in getting somebody like a will cherry to come to montana from such a well populated and talent rich area. in high school, almost every game he played was against somebody with D-1 talent and that rarely happens in montana, but I also understand that you have less than 1 million people in your state and california has upwards of 35 million. Tinks may also end up getting Kareem Jamar who comes from westchester in Los angeles who is almost always a basketball powerhouse , so I think Tinks is doing a mighty fine job of recruiting.

Get some good ground work going for the next couple of years and who knows we may end up like Gonzaga. I would much rather live in Missoula than spokane, so if the Zags can get it going, so can the Griz!!!!!!

Believe!!!!!!!!

Some people say the cupboard was bare when Tinkle took over. He's done a great job recruiting, and is turning the team around after a couple mediocre seasons. What's exciting about the current state of Griz athletics is that it seems Tinkle, and Pflugrad, are at stages in their career in which they aren't looking for the next big job like the last 3 football coaches or Larry K. If UM could get great coaches to set down roots and commit to the UM like Robin Selvig has, UM could grow into quite an athletic powerhouse.

Biff says he is a fan of Weber State so maybe suggesting Tinkle being fired is really a compliment?

+1. In the same vein, I can't help but notice Rahe hasn't made it to the Sweet Sixteen yet so obviously he's got to go. :shit:

OK I admit Im a little confused, are you talking about the BSC tourney or the Big Dance?

Im thinking your talking about the Dance, cause as far as I know its been a while since UM hasnt made the BSC tourney.

The mormon kids coming out of their shell and talking a little smack about Tinkle, I like it. It sounds like some are feeling a little insecure about a 14 point beat down a couple weeks ago. Maybe the Big Sky tournament and the next few years of conference play aren't going to be quite the cakewalk some had envisioned? Maybe WSU isn't the only team with an Oakland guard that can ball?
