He is a freshman at his first fall camp. He had two knee injuries during high school yet still was productive. The injury he is rehabbing from is a sore shoulder (or usually referred to as "a stinger"). You guys can keep spraying stuff out there. It's entertaining. I could say the same thing about Montana recruits coming into their first fall camps who are "injury prone" but I won't because it doesn't matter. Injuries are a part of football and true freshman definitely have an adjustment to make when they go through their first fall camp. Excited about Chase because he is gifted physically and is a blank slate from a technique standpoint. Like the rest of the freshman, he will get the proper nutrition his redshirt year and then the sky is the limit.

I think Choate will do a great job in Bozeman. He honestly is a great front man and I happen to have a ton of respect for the guy. He is well respected in SW Idaho, and was a great presence for BSU recruiting there.
Choate's major issue over the years is the balance point. He is so high energy and he wears his emotions pretty close to the skin. His position players loved him at BSU, but he had a bit more freedom to let it go as an assistant.
I'll be interested to see how Gregorak and Choate mix. They are in many ways very similar. Could be a marriage made in heaven in some ways, but also could be gasoline on a forest fire. Just a very interesting dynamic to me.
I have said this before, he (Choate) might have to dial it back a bit more as a head guy. He is the exact opposite of Ash, and the players for as much as he might rip them a new one from time to time, they are going to know he has their back. I am not entirely sure that was always the case with Ash.
From what I know and heard from some in Idaho, is that Choate like Stitt was convinced it wasn't talent or x's and o's the Cats needed to fix, it was culture. I don't know nor can I attest to the veracity of state of culture in Bozeman within the program or whether his assessment had any accuracy.

I hope he does well, and I would have loved to have had him. However, I think he had a lower leg injury that gave him problems. I remember seeing him with his shin/calf wrapped on the sidelines quite a bit.

I wish Chase the best. I wish he was wearing maroon and silver. Just a question about his past injuries, which I've heard about but don't know how accurate the information is. Just trying to get better info, and you're usually a good source Vim. Not trying to throw stuff out there or bash the kid. The Griz have certainly had their fair share of injury prone players. I hope Chase can stay healthy. There's no denying his physical gifts.

I have talked with people about this too. Not only are Choate and Gregorak "high energy" guys, but so are Armstrong, Robertson, and from what I have heard, most of the staff. While this is good at times, you also have to have some guys who are pretty level headed for the players. Otherwise, i think you run the risk of it turning from energy to aggravation for the players. It is all good if you are winning......

A great environment for players, honestly and I would expect them to bring a bunch of energy. Per my experience and like you noted, there is a tremendous risk of burn out of message. Especially when you get into the slog of the season and might suffer some setbacks.
I think MSU will be better than advertised because I do think Choate will get better effort, but to the same end there are some personnel gaps that might take a year or two for him to fix. I think he'll be a better recruiter than Ash, especially in the region, but he is going to have to lean on some pretty green guys to help him outside of the state of Montana. Choate will hammer the Treasure Valley and Southern Idaho hard. That was his area at BSU, and has built some pretty solid connections there.

Sorry. I get fired up when kids (and players at all levels for that matter) get put into a category just because of past injuries, even though they fully healed and the player played through them.

Vim, no need to apologize. You are a great and welcome poster, and it's perfectly OK to get fired up about misinformation. Trust me, I get fired up every time I read Papa G's constant misinformation on UM football on BN. I just don't post there, so I get fired up with myself only.
