When is it going to leak out or get announced that Vigen is departing?

Kliman had the advantage in that the K-State AD that hired him also hired him when he was the NDSU AD. Stanford hired Taylor because his accomplishments in the area were well documented and he had been a Power 5 coordinator at Utah. Power 5 and even “better” Group of 4 AD’s and money boosters are not rolling out the red carpet for FCS head coaches, no matter their record. My guess is OSU got down to 2 choices that would work within their ability to pay a head coach and assistants that they could afford. One being a veteran and accomplished FCS head coach from MSU and one being a position coach with no coordinator or head coaching experience from Alabama. The others on their shortlist most likely passed when they saw the salary pool for head and assistant coaches. Just my guess.
I doubt OSU wants a first time head coach after the whole Bray experience. He was overwhelmed in late game decisions and there is no reason to believe it wouldn’t be the same with Shepherd. Vigen has been a successful head coach which should give him the advantage.

You would be wrong with this blanket statement. D1 coordinators have success as first time head coaches all the time. OSU just picked the wrong guy in general.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Vigen leaves re: the top in-state kids and whether Hauck can flip any of them.

If he can't get any of them flipped, I think people might have to start considering that UM's failure to land the top in-state kids might be more institutional than football program related.

D1 coordinators, which Shepherd is not really, he is the co OC when Deboer runs offense, do have success all the time as first year head coaches but recency bias would lead OSU to not try that again right after they tried and failed badly with that during the Bray era.

So you are an OSU insider.

personally I don't think Hauck flips any Montana recruits...I think that ship has sailed...I
think Cats pretty much stay intact regardless where Vigen goes...they have a lot of
momentum going their way....Montana players will be the adhesive that will keep them
together...

Flew into Bozeman today and turned around after a few hours to fly out. Taking Vigen back to OSU for the presser? Fun times
There are so many private flights between cities like this every day that never get any coverage, but I love college coaching change season where weirdos troll flightaware and flightradar24 to make these connections lmao

It very well could be Vigen, but it also could be some national pickle farm owner's rich trust fund kid getting dropped off to go to Big Sky haha

They're cucumber farmers you fool!

I personally think OSU should go with BV. He has shown he can do something with “nothing” and get the best out of players. Granted MSU was in solid shape when he took over. But OSU surely has overall better facilities, more money to build with and I’m will to imagine deeper booster pockets. OSU overall has a much higher ceiling to reach and I think if BV could go there and get that program turned around he could really do well for himself and would most certainly open the doors for bigger opportunities. Also keep in mind that OSU is going to be thrilled to have a string of winning seasons to start. If BV can get them to a bowl game in year two or three he’s a golden boy. That’s pretty achievable really as he could draw from talent he has on rooster at MSU if those kids would be willing to follow there coach and a chunk of his staff. Plus OSU has to have some talent on that team that would stick around if BV signed on. Those kids at OSU are a shrinking ship really and nothing to play for at this stage.
OSU will certainly want to make an announcement of there new head coach by this weekend or they may find the program is forced to start completely over with max exodus of players. I think it’s imperative OSU makes its decision and announcement ASAP to avoid that.
