Why would he coach through the playoffs?I think they'll end up going with Wilcox because they won't want to wait for Vigen to coach through the playoffs, especially since early signing period opens next week.

He refused the Washington State job last year (allegedly) because he wouldn't leave the cats before the national championship game. Why would he coach through the playoffs?
A lot of claims on the Cat board that Vigen would never pull players during the playoffs, bare minimum I'd see him promising certain guys starting roles if they come to OSU after their season is done.I see Vigen as the kind of guy who isn't going to bail on MSU before they even play a playoff game, especially if rumors of them wanting to announce a new coach by next week are accurate.
But yeah, if that's his line in the sand, and they continue to have the kind of success that gets him on the radar of bigger programs, he is unlikely to get a shot if he refuses to abandon them early.
If that happens, I would feel pretty horrible for cat fans, especially if he tries to take players with him on the way out (as I expect he would, every coach in that position does, after all).
But I cannot lie, it would be very funny as a Griz fan.
Thx. That’s nt much of a buyout for an FBS school.“I’m extremely grateful to President Cruzado and Leon for their continued support,” Vigen said in a news release. “[Vigen’s wife] Molly and I, along with our boys, have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Bozeman and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead here. I want to thank our staff and players for their commitment to this football program and university as we continue to chase new heights.”
Vigen’s oldest son, Jake, is a redshirt sophomore defensive end at MSU. Another one of Vigen’s sons, Grant, is currently a Gallatin senior who plays quarterback and signed with MSU in December.
Brent Vigen’s buyout, which was $250,000 in his last contract, is at least $300,000 for the life of the new contract. It’s $450,000 if Vigen terminates the agreement before Dec. 1, 2025 (for a reason other than death, disability, or incapacity). It falls to $350,000 if the buyout happens between Dec. 2, 2025 and Dec. 1, 2026. It’s $300,000 from Dec. 2, 2026 through the end of the end of the contract on March 31, 2029.
The deal also includes a $50,000 retention incentive if Vigen remains at MSU on July 1 each year between now and the contract’s expiration.
Over the past few seasons, Vigen has been rumored to be in the mix for head coaching vacancies at FBS programs, most recently at Washington State (which hired South Dakota State’s Jimmy Rogers on Saturday). It’s unclear how close Vigen was to taking any of those jobs.

That was from last December 30, 2024 but buyout info in there for schools to consider, such as Oregon State in regards to Vigen

Well if that’s something he sticks to he won’t be moving up. At some point he’s going to have to abandon msu. He can’t afford to not be recruiting, putting together a staff and hitting the portal until after the playoffs and championship game. Unless Oregon st is willing to just call his first season a wash all togetherHe refused the Washington State job last year (allegedly) because he wouldn't leave the cats before the national championship game.
