Wheeler Harris

Maybe I missed it.....derailed threads lead me to skip stuff, but does anyone know if getting a scholarship or walking on?

A lot of potential interceptions thrown. I don't see much zip on his throws.

Looks like he was throwing to a big receiver with good hands, so maybe jump balls were part of the plan.

Blurb from Alabama pre-season article. Note his size listed in that article.

"Wheeler Harris (Fr.) Harris is an intriguing walk-on prospect. On paper, he has the look: He’s big (6’3” 220) and is a strong-armed pocket passer from Arizona’s wide open high school systems. He definitely needs to work on his accuracy and reeds, so making a roster may be tough. But I’m interested in seeing how far he moves up the depth chart, or if he does so, over the next few years and whether he earns a scholarship."

What isn't he listed on the 2017 Ala. football roster?

I was hoping we were getting this guy. Liked his name. Seemed like a natural.

This is concerning (to put it mildly). Griz QB's of the past have had some pretty cringe-inducing turns on strings (thinking particularly of Andrew Selle's "interesting" attempt of Paganini's Caprice 24) and percussion ( the memory of Brian Ah Yat coming in comically early on Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" during the Missoula Symphony's '96 Fall Fundraiser still makes me chuckle), but reeds have never been a problem. Ever. It'd be fine with me if we could keep it that way...

Nicely played, though again, may turn out to be concerning for some of the elders.

    BRAVO!

Looks like he still needs to develop some touch, but there is certainly a lot of upside. He poses well, I'll say that for him!

By the way, isn't Kessman like 105 now?! I wonder if he's still got it?

Soon the NCAA will expand eligibilty to 30 years to play 4.4 and he will be back.

Keep things in perspective he is not a Miller/Ochs ...he wasn't very recruited out of high school (a couple lower division schools were interesed, Pueblo and Adams). As for coming from Alabama....they need bodies to run scout teams (there roster is so large 3 of them shared his number....one was even another scout QB). Hard to get top notch QBs to go to Alabama just to be meat squad knowing they have 5 star recruits at your position and you will never see the field.

Maybe he will progress and be an impact player down the road, but compared to an Ochs or Miller resume coming in as a transfer you are talking apples to oranges.

Thanks for your perspective.

Here's mine...Wheeler was recruited out of HS by our current Offensive Coordinator (who was a Div 11 Head Coach at the time, not to mention a strong former Heisman Trophy candidate and NFL QB). Wheeler dressed for games at Alabama, and was the 3rd string QB as a true freshman, behind two complete beasts. Wheeler faced a defense everyday in practice that would send multiple defenders to the NFL this year. He has witnessed very large, loud and hostile crowds...and superior athletes; those experiences are going to slow things down for him in Missoula. The kid has potentially four years to improve and show what he is or isn't capable of, and for that I wait in anticipation. Hauck has certainly elevated the QB competition at UM, no doubt about it.

You'll change your tune after a few games. How many qb's do we recruit that seem to be great on paper that never see the field? I'm not saying that we don't have a great one on the roster with Wheeler or Sneed but we had a bonified all conference sophomore on the team and they showed him the door.
It is bad no matter how it is sliced and I am not convinced the kid was afraid to compete. This upcoming season scares me to death.

Actually our best one might be Cam Humphrey, and that's coming from a former NFL scout with ties to the Griz. Said he was a huge get and was #1 on their recruting board. I was bummed about Jensen initially....after what I've heard I'm not anymore. He didn't want to be there anymore looking over his shoulder. Time to move on. QB is in great shape.
Even above Sneed?

Yep, I was surprised too. I think we will have another legit QB competition in the fall.

Hauck after Cams' announcement, said of all the guys that the staff evaluated in regards to guys they talked to about possibly transferring to UM to play QB, they all agreed Humphrey was the #1 guy they wanted to transfer to Montana. We'll see how it all shakes out come Sept. Talk about a position competition, wow! I am excited.

Rosenbach wants all three, that's good enough for me

Watched his hudl, strong arm and he sets his feet well I would picked this guy over Jensen. He’s bigger, more physical and has comparable arm strength. Good pick up three qbs, 4 counting Graves, who desire to play for the griz. That’s just like my opinion man.

I count 5 qbs:
Dalton Sneed
Cam Humphrey
Tanner Wilson
Wheeler Harris
Garrett Graves
I still count 4 good qb pickups by this staff. Tanner Wilson wasn’t a pick up he is a returning veteran. There is a difference. A pick up generally refers to a juco transfer, FBS drop down or a player that hasn’t played here yet but rather was “picked up” from some other program and transfered in. Tanner on the other hand would only be considered a picked up qb by the Stitt staff and inherited by the current staff, but not picked up. I know it can get really technical. But that’s ok keep posting and supportin the fellas. :thumb:

Wow, thanks for the technical explanation. You are truly a brilliant person that isn’t afraid to tell anybody about it. I, for one, appreciate your bloviated ego. Keep on being you and proving every day that’s it’s perfectly fine to be a jerk as long as you’re brilliant!

Go96, I reread my post and I want to apologize to you. Sometimes when you write something after you have just been slammed on another thread and I think I took that out on you in my post. I usually try not to be a dick, but sometimes you get caught up in the egriz dramas. I’m still trying to figure out who is who and what their agenda is. I tend to make long posts because at first I always mistakenly feel like I’m emailing friends or guys I would hang out with because we are passionate about the Grizzlies, and not a bunch of smug pricks who can’t or just won’t engage in an intelligent discussion. I don’t feel that way anymore, I would like to engage in something about football and not just drive by slamming. I’m still trying to leave that over in the politics thread. I don’t get why only a couple of people frequently post long engaging comments about football. The majority seem to know each other and hate each other and the shit just gets old. At least put a p.s. and explain the context of your insult, for us new guys. Got an idea: start a thread about anything football related, leave out the direct personal insults, which is hard I know, and you must agree to engage in a discussion, and post at least three complete sentences, and if you aren’t able to at least do that, I know it’s a reach for some of us, then Stfu. Fellas we all got to step up and make egriz great again.(MEGA, trademarked). Again Go96, I apologize I was a dick to you and you didn’t deserve that, my bad. Thanks.

P.s. So what do you say fellas, egriz doesn’t have to be over “nothing is over until we say it’s over. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no. It ain’t over now cause when the going gets tough the tough get....... Who’s with me, let’s go come on.......what the f**k happened to the egriz I used know?” ( Sen. John Blutarsky, circa 1962)

I didn't realize the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. Are you sure it wasn't Pearl Jam?

And put up with Saban for for a year. Hanging in with Bobby for the next four should be a walk in the park.

But can he play in the cold?

Time will tell how WH pans out. He could be very good, but he also might not be as good as we want him to be. We shall see.
