Whats the Deal?

the grizz are off to a good start, but i am just wondering how long will this last without utilizing their key players.

one thing that i have noticed is how bad montana is not taking advantage of staudacher....

1st game: 14 points
2nd game: 21
3rd game: 14

and is shooting over 60 percent right now. and is getting and average of 9 shots a game. he is the best offensive player on the team hands down. someone needs to relay tink the message.

Newby..I think you are right !

Will Stauds turn out to be the stud this year ? Funny there was a thread and a poll a while back on who
the stud was going to be..all the experts on the board picked Jack and jordo. Well, I think I voted
for Jordo..heck I think there were 6 or 7 players named on the poll...and Stauds was not even listed..
or mentioned. Lots of season left to play but I think Stauds junior year is going to be VERY good !

Since i dont predict things right very often.. I thought I would cut and paste my post from a few
weeks ago..

I voted for Jordo..He will be the real Stud Senior..on the boards, going to the hoop, on D, He gets my
vote hand downs ,if he does not loose his power by cutting his hair (lol) or cast up to many 3's

speaking of 3's..Stauds would be my sleeper pick, He could shine his junior year. He got lots of
minutes last year to help his experience, plays solid D, passes to post great ..and I predict he shoots 55% from 3 and leads the big sky this year !! Heck, I think he shot almost 50% in leauge last year as a soph..This team needs a pure shooter...to stay within 20 points of Duke.

I hope I was right ..if Jack, jordo, taylor and Stauds ALL get HOT from three anything can happen at Duke.
that is why they play the games..It will be the game of a lifetime for the Griz a game they will always remember ....think... what if !!! ok all you bashers..you can not dream this week of the big upset.

Not sure how that means a player's not being utilized. Pretty good numbers to start. I could see him getting more but this team is pretty balanced so relying on him (trying to get him close to 22-25 per, which would be possible) would do more harm than good. Btw, I tossed out in practice wrap that he could challenge Jack and Jordo for leading the team in scoring. Definitely a great player who could grow into being the team's best offensive threat.

The Griz are taking advantage of Staudacher. He is an exclusively an outside shooter. He rarely drives to the hoop. I don't know if he took a shot in the first half tonight--certainly didn't in his first rotation. His few or not shots in the first half were not due to anything, other than others hitting there's or driving and he not being open.

Another example of someone not at the game, or just wanting to support RS.

Blah blah blah....don't care about personal stats. This is a team game.

He's averaging over 16 PPG....are you serious? Nobody for the Griz has averaged much over 16 PPG in a while. The last one I can think of would be Kamarr Davis - and he still only averaged maybe 18 PPG.

And Staudacher can't create his own shot, so tell me how he's going to become one of those players who gets 20+ per night? Ain't gonna happen. The game works from the inside out, not the other way around.

The bigs need to contribute early and often. That sets the tone and opens up the shots for the guards. It also gives you reliable scoring every game. I don't care how good of a shooter somebody is, they have off nights now and then.

9 shots per game for a guard is great, unless you are a Rodney Stuckey type talent - which Staudacher is nowhere near. Please don't disillusion yourself here, Staudacher is a great shooter - but not the strongest offensive threat on the team. He's not going to shoot 60% on the year either. It'll be more like 43% like his career stats suggest. Hasquet and McGillis create scoring opportunities and also get to the FT line.

Here's Staudacher line for assists and FT's through 3 games: 2 Assists and 2 FTs. Outstanding shooter, not the best offensive player.

MGR breaking it down!! Great post...

Staudacher is doing a much better job of creating his shots, and taking tougher shots (and making them) this year. He's coming off picks better. He's coming off of the both ways. He seems to be shooting from more spots this year too--but perhaps I'm just not remembering where he shot from in prior years. Based on the games so far, he is a bigger, and probably significantly bigger, offensive contributer this season.

This 'creating your own shot' thing is bogus. JJ Redick couldn't create his own shot. That worked okay in college ball.

It worked at Duke for the greatest coach of all time, with one of the most prolific shooters ever. Not exactly a fair comparison.

I'm not so much about creating your shot as creating offense. Staudacher doesn't create offense like others on the team. He'll get his touches when he is open, which he has to rely on other people for that to happen. Again, great shooter and will definitely contribute a bunch this season. Just don't see him as the #1 offensive threat.

The thing you failed to mention about Redick is that he drew double teams and created opportunities for teammates.

"The Griz are off to a good start" Are you serious?? They barely beat a NAIA team, and they won last night over a team that is now 0-5. The only D1 test they have had was vs. an average CSU team (who UNC played close) and the Griz were throttled by 30. IMO the Griz are not playing well, and they are for sure not off to a "good start". Duke might be nice and only blast them by 25+....a good start????????
