I've been thinking about signing up and this is another reason to. How often will new articles be coming out? Will there be articles during the offseason? What topics will be covered?

There will be at least one story every day. It's hard to say what topics will be covered as that changes every week, but it will be comprehensive. We'll be your source for everything Griz football and basketball. And the offseason coverage will be unparalled. I can guarantee the $8 will be cheap compared to the content coming out. Hopefully that didn't sound too Trumpian

In the first year of Skyline Sports, we produced 1,245 pieces of content from news to features to podcasts to videos to analysis to a HUGE emphasis on recruiting. With another content producer on board, you can expect daily stories and content on the Griz literally 365 days. Our goal is to produce a piece of Around the Big Sky content, two pieces of Bobcat content (we rolled over 400 subscribers from my Bobcat Beat website and don't ask, no I don't like or cheer for the Bobcats), and a piece of multimedia each day. With Kyle on board, expect between 7-12 extra stories a week pertaining to Griz athletics plus added multimedia aspects.

Like Kyle said, content schedule will fluctuate but a few consistent you can count on: profiles on all Griz seniors from football, men's and women's basketball, game stories on all Griz football and men's basketball games and beat coverage daily for both football and men's basketball.

Geez Colter. Does it suck making a living writing about a football team you don't even like?

I don't like or dislike any team in the Big Sky Conference. I've covered the league for five different outlets now over the last 10 years so I have no rooting interest in any of it. I root for great stories and the Big Sky, particularly in Montana, is full of them.

I enjoy covering Montana State immensely. Since I first moved to Bozeman, I covered the ascension to success under Rob Ash - Big Sky titles in 2010, 2011 and 2012 - and the fall of the program's all-time leader in wins. I covered two of the most uniquely talented quarterbacks the league has seen in the last 10 years in DeNarius McGee and Dakota Prukop, both who rose to high heights only to fall mightily and end their Bobcat careers with anything but fairytale endings. The stories in Bozeman have been almost endless over the last five years and have covered most of the spectrum. So no, it doesn't suck at all. All the aspects of this project — from the ground work Kyle and I set in place while working together at the Chronicle to now, four years later, getting to work with each other again — have been incredibly rewarding and rich with good journalistic pursuits throughout.

I'll be signing up as well. Really enjoy you stuff Kyle. One small piece of advice though. There are at least a few conservatives that are Griz fans such as myself and you may to keep your left leaning bias and comments out of your writing. Good luck and looking forward to reading your articles!

1. I'm not going to stop being who I am, just as I wouldn't expect you, or anyone else who doesn't agree with me, to stop being who they are. 2. Can you give me an example of this?

By now I'm sure a few of you have figured out that I'm no longer at the Missoulian. I worked there for a little over 20 months and got to cover some really great things, but some things happened and we parted ways. About a week after that happened I was hired by Skyline Sports to cover Montana football and men's basketball. It's a great opportunity to work with Colter and Brooks on a project they are passionate about.
They want this website to be the premier site for Big Sky Conference sports coverage. To do that they knew they needed to move into the Missoula market and capture the Montana fan base. Not only is "Griz Nation" the largest fan base in the Big Sky and one of the largest in FCS, it is the most passionate. There are few teams around the country, football or basketball, FCS or FBS, that can match the passion Griz fans have. I know this because I grew up in Missoula going to Washington-Grizzly Stadium on fall Saturdays when the Griz were in town, and spending the others in front of a TV somewhere. As a little kid I first listened to the adults argue about whether Joe Glenn's offense was enough to keep Montana entrenched as a national power. Then as I got older, I listened to them to argue whether Bobby Hauck was a good coach or not.
This pattern has been going on, more or less, since I was 8 years old.
That's not gonna end, I'm just assuming a different role.
In early December 2014 I went into an interview with the publisher, managing editor and sports editor of the Missoulian and laid out my plan to cover Montana. I came into the meeting with a rundown of the stories I wanted to pursue during the 2015 season and another sheet of paper with more than 100 names of recruits the Griz were after. I sat there and told them the school was going to hire Bob Stitt more than 10 days before it was officially announced that he would take over for Mick Delaney.
My years as a fan stoked a curiosity in Griz athletics I don't think any reporter in the state can match. It's a curiosity and a strict adherence to the ethics of the profession -- and maybe an ability to write a little bit -- that makes a great journalist. I'm not saying I'm that -- I have a long ways to go and a lot to learn in this profession. But I do have an interest in these programs that I think is replicated by many of you and I think you guys -- and the rest of this rabid fanbase -- deserves a reporter who wants to bring you the stories that make up the narrative of these two teams. Really, that's all journalism is: simply journaling the events in an honest and fair manner.
There are some places that do an ok job of giving you an idea of what's happening. But I can guarantee there is no place that will do it better than Skyline Sports. I've created some really good relationships within the community and within the athletic department and I believe those connections will allow me to not only bring you more information, but to guarantee it is all accurate.
That day I went into the Missoulian offices almost two years ago, I told them when I was little I grew up wrestling the sports section away from my sisters and then reading reporters who really gave the growing fan base what it wanted. I don't think it's had that for awhile. Now it will.
Compared to subscriptions at the Missoulian and the Great Falls Tribune, the $8 it costs to subscribe to Skyline is a bargain. I'm not asking you to do this because I took a risk on Brooks' and Colter's vision, or because it will help me afford my life, I'm asking you to go to Skyline Sports and subscribe because you're a fanbase that has been without a resource it deserves. Now it doesn't have to be that way.
If you want the best coverage of Griz football and men's basketball and Lady Griz basketball, sign up with Skyline.

Living out of state much of the content you guys put out is really great, I enjoy reading it. Have you guys thought about covering Montana High School football in greater detail? For us folks that have moved out of state i'd love to have the state polls and a more comprehensive coverage as to what is going on in the high school ranks around Montana. Just my two cents, keep up the good work fellas!

Kyle,

You do great work. My only suggestion would be to get way more radical.

Sincerely,
Bernie Sanders & the 99%

Exactly. His content has been great thus far. Just waited until he had some GRIZ content to sign up. Turning into quite the source for Big Sky sports news

I joined as well. Looking forward to it. I agree on the post about high school sports. Would be great to see a little more coverage of that too.

OK OK I threw my $90 into the ring.

Perhaps I am the only nut that will be tossing a vote for Trump. Fire Florio. Nuff said.

Kyle does a great job. Glad to read this info. Thanks!
