Your right, this debate was pointless, both our fans have the right to be proud of our respected programs, and should be proud of the other for the national attention each has given the Big Sky.

Anywho,

I do know that Weber is in the process of recruiting a 6-11 205 pound center from Hartland Wisconsin who will graduate from high school in 2010, His name is Ben Mills, he has offers from 10 different schools, including Indiana State, Loyola Chicago, Texas State, Wisconsin Milw, Florida Gluf Coast U, North Dakota, Ball State, Tulsa, Utah State and Weber State. Hopefully this guy will show some class and turn down USU's offer and come play at Weber, cause nobody likes the Aggies.

We also had 2 High School seniors who signed their national letters of intent to play for the Wildcats, in 2009/10 along with 1 junior college transfer.

Byron Fulton, 6'7", 230 lb forward/center from (Saint Mary's High) Phoenix, AZ, has signed letter of intent to come to Weber State. Fulton is rated as a 74 on espn.com. Many of last years new recruits to the Big Sky Conference were rated as 40's.

Blake Davis, 6'5", 205 lb small forward also from (Saint Mary's High) Phoenix, AZ, has signed letter of intent to come to Weber State. Davis is rated as a 73 on espn.com. Davis plays on the same high school team as Fulton and maintains a 3.62 GPA.

Lindsey Hughey, 6'3", 194 lb shooting guard has signed letter of intent to come to Weber State. This season he will play his sophomore season for Seminol State College in Oklahoma. Last season as a 2nd team JUCO All-American he averaged 12.8 ppg, 51.3% from the field, & 40.7% from beyond the arc. He played his high school ball at South Grand Prairie in Grand Prairie, TX. At Grand Prairie, Lindsey was a McDonald All American nominee, District 6-5 MVP, 2005-2006 Offensive Player of the Year, first team All District.

Rahe is bringing in the talent, and Weber's future as well as UM's are looking brighter, The Weber/UM basketball rivalry just might start getting better.

TY, WCF. BTW I agree Montana/Weber State is going to become an even bigger rivalry. Not only in basketball, but football too. As for basketball, I hope that rivalry takes another step this year in the BSC tourney, and be a great game. Which it can be, if and when the GRIZ shoot even decent against them. This time it will be the GRIZ turn to come out on top, I hope. :)

wow no joke there. i do think montana and weber SHOULD lead the bigsky in both football and basketball this year.
:o

I think it would be great if Weber and UM became a football rivalry, Nobody aside from ISU has played Weber as much as Montana, It would be cool, but if both our teams make it to the playoffs again, they need to put us on opposite sides of the bracket so we can meet in Chatty and duke it out for the championship, because both our teams last year were contenders.

Hopefully, last season was a sign of things to come at Weber State.

Ok, that would be sweet if WSU and UM became a big rival for both football and basketball, we know ur rivalry with MSU but to have 2 dominant teams in 2 sports for the next few yrs would be pretty fun.

Since our regular rival never beats us...

As for this thread's debate, how about we end with, we have both had some good teams in bball and you in football. We are both in the Big Sky and that is what matters, no reason to not be proud of each other. I was afterall watching hte FCS national championship game to see UM play.

Didn't the Grizz end that season with 20 wins?? I remember that there were a couple of 20 win teams in the Sky that year, and Weber wasn't one of them :( . That wasn't one of Weber's best seasons, they were rebuilding, but still dangerous.

Griz ended the 1981-82 season 17 - 10. 10 - 4 in conference.

Thanks for that info... I knew that the Grizz had a good team that year. Yeah, it was the 1st round that Weber almost beat Idaho in 82. According to my parents, those were great years. The Big Sky had some great teams, that could step it up on the big stage. Thankfully, I think the Big Sky is starting to move in that direction again, and is definitely improving.
With regard to recruiting, right now I think you guys have the best 09-10 freshmen recruits. As has been stated previously, we have signed two freshmen and one JC for next season (Byron Fulton C/PF, Blake Davis SG/SF, and Lindsey Hughey SG). Along with those guys, Weber will have another SF/SG coming back from a LDS Mission; Jake Orchard. Orchard was the Utah 4A MVP his senior year, and the 4A tournament MVP, he also was a teamate of Steve Panos at Highland High in Salt Lake. He has a great shot, and plays tenacious defense, but one never knows about returning missionaries. If he Gray Shirted before his mission he will still have a red-shirt available, he most likely wont use it. Also, Weber has supposedly signed (preferred walkon type, i didn't know that basketball had that), a PG from Juan Diego High School in Salt Lake City; however, none of us (WSUHOOPS FANS) have been able to find out any info on the kid. We do know that his team is competing for first place in their district and are going to the state 3A playoffs where they should make some noise.
Last but surely not least, Weber is looking for a wing to replace the departed Marcus Carson (he started the season with Weber, but quit after the BYU game). Weber is looking at two wings at a couple of Utah JC's: Ryan Brimley (Snow College) and Stephen Franklin (College of Eastern Utah; this one is being kinda recruited. He was on Colorado State's team, but was kicked off after being found guilty of Identity fraud. Weber has already had one etuati, we don't need any more, but he is one hell of a basketball player, and, I've heard, could be an academic all-american. He was one of the top recruits out of Colorado his senior year and is currently a three star recruit.)
Thats all I know right now... I'll keep ya all updated.

sadly it wont happen. if we both make it in the playoffs, we will always see each other at the semi- finals at most. And with this new bracket coming out in two years. Its going to be even more regionalized. It sucks for west teams. because the elite have already played each other Weber, Mt and poly. In the east its not as big of deal because 3/4 of playoffs are in the east so its not that far to travel. but west will always get the 3 teams on the same side of the bracket. (sigh) I think the only way to beat it is to get 4 or 5 teams in the playoffs. cause then they would prob. do 3 on one side 2 on the other. so they could have 2 regional games. and then maybe a 3rd regonalized game on one side.

Hey Kyle,

The multiple wife thing is my favorite part of UM fans! That and discussing alcohol. LOL Kyle, don't be offended, just join the rest of us and get a few more wives. Having just 2 is kinda weak (I saw you at the last game).

Its kinda like us making fun of them for mullets and sheep. Don't think too many of em are down with either...

I've never seen a polygamist and I've lived in Utah my whole life. Funny thing is while I was a student at Weber I had a roommate that grew up in polygamy, he was from Montana! LOL No joke! Dead seroius!!

I wonder if they have tons of em up there?? UM fans better not ask where the roommate's dad got his bachelor's...LOL!

What time is it in Montana when a sheep is stuck in the fence?

i was applying the same logic you guys did with football. outside of the bigsky nobody knows or cares. just another 13-14 seed usually and nobody knows who you are. your are the usual best out of the big sky...but its not like you always make this big run or win some amazing games year in and year out.....or get great seeds in the tourney. Big sky dream you are not.....leader of the bigsky in bball, indeed you are. but you are not really thought of with a big circle on the calander by every team that plays you or......not even in the conf. The big sky is not who it is because of weber in basketball.....but bigsky IS WHO IT IS in football because of the GRIZ. sorry but its true.

Really why dont you ask teams like

Gonzaga who we are 24-12 against,

or Michigan State who we are 1-0 against,

or even North Carolina who we are 4-0 against, yes thats right, 4-0

other teams who know who we are, BYU, Utah, Utah State, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, New Mexico, Illinois, Georgetown, Wisconsin, Florida, Miami, Gonzaga, Depaul, Lamar, Arkansas, New Mexico State, Hawaii, Washington, Washington State, Xavier, UNLV, St Mary's, Marquette, Sienna, Oklahoma, Stanford, Oregon State, Indiana, Syracuse, Santa Clara, Long Beach State, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Not to mention Weber plays in a mini tourney every year, outside of Utah and do not host their own.

Top of the World tournament in Alaska, which we have played in several times, UCLA tournament, Southern Miss Tourney, we played in a tourney in texas, this is just a few of them.

Teams we have played in these mini tourneys, Alaska Fairbanks, Southern Miss, Houston, Miami OH, Praire View A&M, UTEP, Fresno State, Boise State, Colorado, Texas San Antonio, and so on.

Not to mention, the Texas Longhorns sent a box full of Weber State basketball jerseys to North Carolina saying, "You remember the last time you lost in the First round of the Tournament?" So obviously Texas knows who we are.

Weber is known outside the Sky far more than Montana.

You want a difference Between Weber an UM? Montana is known more by smaller schools in football, Weber is known more by the BIGGER schools in basketball.

And anyway, We are not pissed about AJ's comments, and we never said he guaranteed a win against us, we just think it funny that he is saying UM will meet Weber in the final, which would mean UM would have to beat PSU again, so he is guaranteeing a win vs the Vikings, and playing us in the final, its funny because of what happened to Waters.
